Guild Wars 2 - Reset night

Guild Wars 2, World vs World reset night. The most crowded night of the week!

I've played Guild Wars 2 a lot in my days. Started out playing PvE, but in the end, I stuck around for the WvW, which is World vs World vs World, which is three player servers pitted against each other over four different maps. These maps give all the space you need for epic player battles between big groups of people. One commander group (squad) can hold up to 50 people and on reset night, they'll probably have some strays tagging along aswell. Pit those against another one or two server groups of the same size, and you have awesome chaos! Chaos well coordinated by the commander if (s)he and his/her players are any good.

Every week, the matchup resets on friday evening and you'll be pitted against another set of servers. In reality you'll mostly switch between a couple of servers who are at the same skill level, but you can climb your way up or down as a server, depending on how well you do with points, which are mainly earned by holding objectives like camps, towers, keeps and the castle in the middle.

Yesterday, I joined our open raid commander on one of the border maps, where we first captured a tower without much competition. The screenshot above shows us using catapults to bring down the wall, while keeping up some painful marks on its walkway, so enemy players who walk across will get hurt and have a harder time damaging our catapults.

Four maps. One middle map called Eternal battleground, where you each have you own corner and spawn point. This holds the castle in the middle. Then there's the borders. You have one homeborder with spawnpoint in the north and a couple of keeps, towers and camps you'll try to hold. Then there's two enemy borders where your spawnpoint is south (one southeast, one southwest). That's where you'll try to claim the enemy's border for yourself and hopefully steal away their keeps.

We did that next.

Usually, the enemy will come to defend their keep, because if you hold them long enough and make sure it builds up enough supplies, you'll eventually build a waypoint there, which makes it easier to travel across the map.

This time was no different and the enemy's keep is where we had our first real battle of the evening.

I play a necromancer reaper, which means I am both a ranged caster aswell as a close-combat melee player. It's pretty fun to play. Casting marks up front and when the commander pushes in, switch to reaper form, charge in and AoE them down, before fleeing the fray and turning back to ranged caster.

Gotta make sure to get out of there fast enough!

We were playing on the green borderland, but surprisingly enough, the blue enemies turned up first to fight us and give us lots of loot. The green ones turned up eventually though.

There were a lot of enemies, so it took us a while to get to the inner keep and set eyes on the keep's lord. That's the NPC you have to kill before you're able to capture the keep. Keep lords are more powerful than tower lords, so even with a big group, it takes a little while to get them down. Especially when you have to be ready for enemy player groups. You basically use your automatic combat skill and save all of your bigger skills for enemy players.

Eventually, we got him down. That's when the claiming circle pops up and your server needs to hold this circle to claim the objective.

This basically means keeping all enemy players out, so they don't contest the circle. As long as it's your server's color, you're slowly capturing your keep. Then, it's a matter of clearing out all of the enemies and their siege weapons (like arrow carts, ballistas, catapults, trebuchets).

Later, we met the blue players out in the field and beat them again.

Yay, more loot!

Eventually, we had another 'threeway' in a tower, where both the green and blue group showed up to fight us!

I must say, we did really well yesterday evening. We won many battles and only wiped to the enemies once.

It's what I love most about World vs World: running around in a big group, looking for big battles and lots of loot bags!

I hadn't played for a while, but when hubby suggested jumping back into GW2 (did I mention it's where he and I met? Right there on the battlefield?), I figured it would be fun! I played this game so much, it's basically muscle memory, so it was easy enough to jump back into the fights.

It's a nice and easy way to spend a friday evening!

How about you?

I enjoyed playing both. WoW is fun for a while, but seeing as I don't want to get back into hardcore raiding, I get bored of the game eventually. They are both fun to go back to once in a while though and with GW2, you don't need a monthly sub, which is a big plus for me!

That sounds good. Or maybe not. People may become addicted to it more easily. Either way, have some !PIZZA.

I found hardcore raiding in WoW to be most addictive and intense, due to everything else you had to do to keep up. GW2 was more like, join whenever you want, but there's no need to do a bunch of other stuff to stay on stop.
Also, because you pay monthly for WoW, I felt like I had to play, because I paid for the month. GW2 is just there whenever I want.
Thanks for the pizza!

What kind of WoW is this? I've never played it but it looks great. I wish I could dedicate time to all the mmo's at once hahaha.
