Norwegian landscapes: Night in Dovrefjell mountains

avatar

Hi Folks!

On my way to the south, during this year's Summer Photo Workshops, I spent first night, magical night, in Dovrefjell mountains, on the borders of Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella national park.

I chose well known place by the shore of Hjerkinnsdammen lake - beautiful spot with the paddle boats, nice place to camp (but officialy there is No Camping sign - I spent one night in the car so I think it wasn't "camping", just resting ;)), place with a view on the lake and moutnains, quiet and little hidden from the road.

In the area of Hjerkinn we can find many good spots to spend a night for free - there are multiple parking spots on the small hill by the main road, where I spent the night on my last day of the trip, I will post the shots from that night later.

In my opinion this one is the best - it is arounf 1 km from the main road and quite far from the nearest cabins. In the morning I met two fishermans going on the boat for fishing and a couple spending their night nearby in the bushes - I am not sure if they saw my car and didn't want to approach nearer or just prefer to be alone there :).

I had few sessions during the night, some first photos before the dusk, later when I saw the beautiful moon rising and last ones, around 2 o'clock when some fogs begin to rise above the lake.

Below, chosen shots from the location and that night. First three are single frame shots, the fourth one is a panoramic work.
Blue hour light made the magic in landscape. For the best quality of the shots I chose to shoot long exposures in lowest possible ISO. Of course tripod was something necessary. That night I decided not to start any fire, I used my gas bottle to heat up some tea and noodle soup for supper :D.

Hope You will like it! I love such moody nights and sessions.

wow, The quality of light is special. The blue is very intense and sometimes it looks like velvet on the Lake. The picture that I liked the most was the panoramic one, I think it was very, very professional ... of the movie! Greetings @photovisions

That is a good reasoning - I was not camping, just resting :) I will try it when I'll rest at the 'no camping' sign one day :D

Great photos. That blue color is stunning. It all look so tranquil and serene. Love it!

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

In my opinion, if I sleep in my car without setting a tent, burning fire, using camping cars - is not camping but parking :P car is standing and if the driver is inside or if not - who cares ;) it is a great way to spend a night for free everywhere. I am using my car as a place of sleep many times during my photo trips. Accomodation in Norway is quite expensive and I love to be on place whole night - watching the night sky, sunset, changing weather, I can always shoot from car when its raining, listening to music, turn on heating when too cold... perfect mini-house for me.
