Live action: Faith in the sun

Hey y'all I don't know where you are right now but I'm on the farm! I've got a special guest out with me for the first time ever too...My wife Faith! You can see here above taking in the vista. Yes I know, it looks kind of brownish, but that's what we get here in South Australia in summer.

I'm supposed to be here shooting feral animals but with Faith here she won't allow it so we went for a walk and just enjoyed the scenery. Of course, I had to bring my rifle because I'd be trespassing on the property otherwise. I have permission to come here to shoot feral animals, not hike. Having said that, I know the owner well and he wouldn't mind us being here for a hike.

20200225_182909~2.jpg

Here we are, basking in the glorious sunshine at 6:35pm. It's daylight saving time here which is why it's so light still. Faith has my culling rifle on her shoulder so I could take the picture.

Normally I'd be up here shooting kangaroos and deer, if they encroach on the property, but tonight we hiked for an hour then just sat near a big old fallen log and chatted about nothing in general. It was a nice way to spend a Tuesday after work. We'll wait until the sun sets then head home for dinner. Burgers tonight y'all!

20200225_183103~2.jpg

Here's Faith making good use of the log I mentioned. The sun is getting lower in the sky to her back...I think she's trying to soak up as much warmth as possible as it gets cool quickly up here.

I'm not sure how many of you will ever get the chance to do something like this but for us it's just the best thing; That's why I asked Faith to come tonight. It's quiet but for the birds, creaking of gum trees and the breeze in the grasses...Blue skies and the sunlight getting more golden by the minute...It's something special. The culling can wait a few more days, this is glorious.

The kangaroos will show their faces soon, they usually wait for the heat of the day to subside and as the sun dips low on the horizon they make their way out for a feed and a drink. There'll be no shooting today though, just the setting sun, nature's vistas, the G-dog and his better half Faith.

Have a great day y'all.

Ah, that looks and sounds awesome, man. I love a good chill in the country. Me and the wife used to go up the Scottish hills a lot. I am hoping when the kids are older we get back into it. It's good for the soul!

Kids change things, or so I'm told, but yes, I'm sure you'll get back to it...You can get up there into the highlands with your kilt on and just hang out. Lol. See what I did there?

I tell you man, a few hours up in this location, where we went tonight, or somewhere similar is good for the soul...It's hard to explain I guess...For me, It rejuvenates me, recharges my soul...Brings me closer to centre...To be up there with Faith, my true north, well...It was special.

Usually I'm banging away on the long gun taking care of business but today was wandering aimlessly, chatting and in silence, and just finding centre. I'm a dude who needs that time.

Thanks for commenting my bro.

Hey, a mate of mine just got back from Edinburgh. He has a house there and goes over a couple times a year to see family and check up on his house. I'm catching up with him next week for coffee... I'll pass on your regards. I mean you must know him right? His name is Leigh. How big can Scotland be? Lol.

Big Leigh!! Aye, man. Of course I know him!! Lol.

I totally get you. It recharges you in a way that nothing else does. I don't have too long before my youngest will be cool to take up the mountains.

Then I will be Zen man!!

Good old Leigh, we couldn't believe it when he got married!

I'd climb a mountain with you any day.

Yeah, I know, Leigh surprised the whole country with that move. Still, a man like him was never going to stay single long.

Hiking in the winter is better, when it’s cool and green.

Nice spot you have there.

Yes, I agree but it was only 30 yesterday and not too bad. Besides, it cools down pretty quickly up there and we didn’t get there until 5pm so it was pretty nice. When it’s really hot I don’t go there as shooting in those conditions can start fires. Thanks for commenting.

The Aussie outback is the best part of the country. Its the only part I miss.

Its a pity that most Aussies spend their whole lives in unremarkable, overly large cities and ignore the rest of the country.

It’s a pity (and sometimes a blessing, depending on if they are a polluting jerk or not) that most people in the cities around the world never experience nature like this.

Several years ago I brought a friend of mine and his now-wife hiking bear my parents house and she grew up in the region but in her 24 years had never hiked or been in the woods before. I was like wtf?

That is a beautiful farm. If you do not mind me asking what part of Australia is that in?

This is the Adelaide Hills, about 35km roughly to the East of Adelaide. A nearby town is Inglewood.. Google maps will put it into perspective if you have a look.

It's a beautiful farm. Cattle, and they have horses too. This is 25 minutes from my house and I go there most weeks. Tuesday and Thursday's are my access days for culling. This one taken last September. Nicer when it's green.

Gorgeous scenery man! I love it. One of my favorite things about doing stuff like snowboarding and hiking is that when you’re out there, there’s lots of time you get to hear absolutely nothing except the natural sounds of the environment around you. No cars, planes or other things to intrude on the peace of it.

atq8dt.jpg

This was one of the most peaceful times I’ve been snowboarding, a few years ago. Went during the week and really got to enjoy the quiet.

No matter what the activity, if it gets a person away from the city and out into the wilderness then it's a good thing. I pity those who don't have the chance to do so.

That's a great shot with the cables heading off into the cloud! Nice.

Thanks, yeah I loved it. The mountain is called Jay Peak in northern Vermont, absolutely beautiful. They are well known for those clouds, they call it ‘Jay Cloud’ because it tends to cover the whole base. It’s only roughly 3k feet high, so it’s not that big compared to other regions. I’ll have to make a photography post about that day, I got a few good ones.

Ah cool, yes the cloud makes all the difference. You really should do a post someday for sure.

Omg, I love this stuff. There's nothing better for the soul than a walk in the wilderness with the one you love. Looks so peaceful there, just great.
Seeing kangaroos must be so cool. I have never seen one but I would love to observe and photograph one. Post up a pix of one will ya.

It was nice. When it greens up this farm is stunning! I'll post some pics as time goes. But here's one taken from the same hill as last night's pic.

I don't always take my camera up there and the kanaroos are often far away. Wild kangaroos aren't easy to creep up on. I'll try though. Roos are all over the place so it shouldn't be too hard to snap some. I'll work on it for you.

Great view, this type of landscape is perfect, no humans around. hehe
I will wait patiently to see the roos. oh love that, roos, do I sound like an Aussie?
Thanks for all your support @galenkp, appreciate it.

Roos huh?

Ya sound like a real true blue Aussie sheila now. Too right ya do! Lol.

I'll not forget about the kangaroo photos, it'll mean I have to take my camera when I'm out and about but that's not an issue. Stay tuned. When you get the photo's the correct terminology is crikey! Lol.

No, not crikey...

It's pronounced...

crikey!

Lol.

You can also use:

crikey

or even

crikey

but

crikey!

is preferable.

I have faith in you...You can do it. Your pronunciation will be bonza!
