This is a cooperative generation of a short story. If you are interested in participating, please sign up as a reply to this post. The first 12 players to sign up get to participate. If there are less than 12 players signed up after 24 hours of this post going up, it will either begin with those players or be postponed if less than 3 sign up.

Objective

The object of the game is to get through town and create a story while at it.

After the whole Covid thing is over and the world goes into financial melt-down, our un-vaccinated character (Max) is trying to survive in a town full of genetically-modified half-humans. Max would need to seek help from residents of the street. The people could be helpful or they could be aggressive towards an un-vaccinated intruder. Each player would take a turn adding to the story each day.

Rules

  • Each player will control Max for 2 actions per turn. An action is a move (any distance), search, an offensive action (fighting) or breaking open a door.
  • After opening a door (by knocking and someone answers, or by breaking it down) the player who opened the door will roll a D6 to determine how many occupants are in the house. Then, for each occupant, roll the D6 to determine if they are a man, woman or child.
    Roll of 6 or 5 = Man (take 2 damage).
    Roll of 4 or 3 = woman (take 1 damage).
    Roll of 2 or 1 = child (take 1 damage).
  • Adults will inflict 2 damage to Max, while children inflict one damage to Max on a successful attack.
  • Max gets to attack first but if the occupant of the house is not killed, they will attack in defense, so the player controlling Max at the time will roll for the occupant's attack.
  • All occupants get just 1 action per turn and can only fight immediately after being attacked.
  • Max can take 6 hit points before he dies. Max can recover damage points by collecting the life-force from slain victims. 5 kills recovers 1 damage point.
  • Use the coin toss function of my online tool to determine if Max is successful in negotiating assistance from residents he encounters in the various homes and whenever Max does something that could have 2 possible outcomes.

Weapons

  • Axe (melee only) does 2 damage. If swinging at lesser enemies, the axe can chop down one enemy with 1 damage and continue through to injure a 2nd enemy with another damage point.
  • Teeth/fists/feet (melee only) can do one damage.
  • Baseball bats, pistols, rifles and crossbows do 1 damage. Bats are melee-only weapons. Pistols and crossbows have a range of 1 square. Rifles can reach 2 squares.
  • Sawed-off shotgun or scattergun: Since buckshot scatters, it would make a big hole shooting in the same square (hence 2 damage); at one space distance it loses momentum and scatters, doing less damage, but can hit 2 targets (dealing 1 damage each). Maximum range is 1 square.
  • CZ 550 is an Elephant Rifle and can do 2 damage at a range of 1 square (or less) and 1 damage at a range of 2 squares.
  • A Molotov Cocktail kills everything in the square it is thrown into and cannot miss. It has a range of 1 square. Combining gasoline and a torch makes a Molotov Cocktail. When a Molotov is thrown, it will burn for the remainder of the current day and the following day, essentially blocking access for the rest of the day and the next day for BOTH Max and occupants.
  • Ranged weapons cannot shoot through walls.
  • To determine if attacks are successful or not, do a manual roll or use my online tool. A roll of 1 to 3 is a miss. A roll of 4 to 6 is a hit. (You can also use the success/fail function of my tool if you prefer.)

Searches

  • Max can only search homes where there are no living residents.
  • Use my online tool to determine search outcomes. Replace hulks with men, runners with women, and walkers with children.

Player actions

Each player will write a few lines to continue Max's story and call on the dice-script as necessary to keep the story moving. It is hoped that in the end, we will have a collaborative story made up by all players.
For example: Player 1 writes that Max went to the door of the first home (moving is 1 action) then knocked on the door (action 2). Use the online tool to see if anyone opens the door). The dice roll was successful and someone opened the door. Roll again to see how many people are in the house (the roll is 3 so we have 3 people in the house. Player 1 now needs to roll 3 more times to determine who they are. We get rolls of 3, 6 and 1, so a woman, a man and a child.

Now Player 2 takes over and completes 2 more actions by writing that Max asks for some food and water. (Use my online tool to see if they are willing to provide sustenance). If successful, Max moves to the kitchen and gets fed (1st action). He thanks the occupants and moves on to the next house (action 2).
If they ask about his vaccination status and refuse to help, Max might attack. Each attack would be an action, followed by a reaction from the resident. After completing 2 actions, the next player will take over, making things up as they go and embellishing the story as they see fit.
The next day, I will update the board and consolidate the story.

NOTE:

To avoid having multiple players writing and posting at the same time, I suggest each player posts a temporary notice letting others know that they are in the process of taking their turn.
Something simple like, "I'm writing now" or "My turn now" will alert others to wait until you have completed your turn.
Once you have posted your notice, it is important to REFRESH YOUR BROWSER because anything you add will show up on your screen, but it WILL NOT SHOW what others have posted during the same time!
If you see that someone else has also attempted to take their turn, you need to communicate with that person and determine who will go first.
If nobody else has attempted to take their turn, (or it was agreed that you should go first) then it is safe to assume that the next person will see your place-holder text and wait until you have edited the place-holder and written your dialogue.
The next player will then read the posted dialogue and create their own place-holder text, refresh their browser, and continue the story from where the last person had left off by editing their place-holder text.

I'l give it a try, I would like to be number 5 (Five), again if it is still open. Oh also I am having a few computer issues, (my desktop died, not sure if it is permanent death or just in a zombie state till I get a chance to look at it).

But I will try to keep up via my raspberry-pi.
