USA down to third for Steemit use

avatar

Last week Korea took the top spot according to Hypestat. Now the USA has dropped another place as India moves up. Canada are currently fourth, but a long way behind. I have some concerns about these numbers from Alexa as big Steem using countries like UK, Japan, Germany and Spain still are missing. In any case Steemit is ranking much lower than at the start of this year. It is still the biggest Steem site by far.

The Steem price is not doing much either. This story on Exchange Rates includes it in a run-down on how much you could gain on various cryptocurrencies if you invest now and they return to their all time high values. They seem quite dismissive of Steem as it is 'horribly implemented'. Okay, so the price has dropped, but people are still earning more than they could elsewhere just from blogging. I had a look at the new community features and that looked to have great potential. I think it has gone back to closed beta, but I hope it will go public soon. We are gaining some good users and others are returning. We may see a lull as things shut down over Christmas, but it is looking good for the start of 2020.

Steem on!

Might need to find an alternative benchmark if Alexa is not adding all the data.

'Why do I keep thinking of those radio devices that respond to voice controls?' - Alexa this.. Alexa that!

There are not many options to assess site popularity unless you have access to the actual site logs. Steemit could make those public if they wanted to. Alexa relies on people running its software and that will only be a tiny fraction of users. I really don't know why some countries dropped off the list. I cannot believe they suddenly got that many fewer visits.

I call BS. USA is the best :) I am just kidding. That is interesting that those two countries have moved up the charts. Especially India. With the huge population they have, I would expect our numbers to be growing more than they are.

USA has dominated since Steemit started, but you can see how it would appeal to countries where making a few cents makes more difference. See how well Venezuela is doing. Wages can be a few dollars per month there.

Maybe Esperanto is the proud holder of the last position. Ne vere gravas, ĉar homo ne sole vivas de la pano, ĉu ne?

Well it's not actually a country, so I'm not sure how they would measure that, but Steem should include all languages and cultures.

You are right it is a language, but many speakers of it regard Esperantujo as a proper country. It is a place where you belong to, with no or all territory on earth.

There's just no way to quantify it in such web stats

I'm just happy Steem is one of the few projects that is still developing. It's also exciting that other communities are still developing and pushing Steem forward and not just Steemit Inc. It would be nice to see that gap lessen though with anything less than 3rd place and hoping Steem ramps up again in the next bull market.

Is there much Serbian content? I see potential to build up local communities.

So, does that mean Steemit is actually a top 2000 site in South Korea?

Apparently so, but it was top 1000 previously. I think it was top 1000 in the world for a while. We need to do what we can to get it back up there.

Still though...almost makes me wonder if their internet is boring. lol

Well look at the stats from last year. Can you think of hundreds of sites you would rather visit than Steemit? The current press coverage about Tron buying them may give it another boost.
