Newly published emails from February 2020 undermine Dr. Fauci's claim that his early recommendation to not wear masks was motivated by fear of causing a mask-purchasing stampede.

I can't claim to know for certain why Dr. Fauci did a complete about face regarding mask wearing. However, it seems to me that there are only a few possibilities...

First off, it's pretty clear based on other things he said at the time and on private correspondence that when he recommended against wearing masks he truly believed it was pointless and even counterproductive to do so. His story about telling a white lie to prevent a run on masks would seem to be a fiction. So either he was a really good liar then, or he is a really good liar now, or he is an idiot. We have not had any great revelations about mask wearing and viruses since COVID-19 came along so I don't really see many other options.

Don't even get me started on wearing multiple masks...
