Are We on the Verge of Another Earthquaking Altseason?

No doubts, the events of the last few days in the crypto market leave much room for optimism. For the first time in a long while, we're glaringly seeing some of the top tier altcoins outperforming Bitcoin.

Unlike what was witnessed some months ago when Bitcoin made parabolic movements and left altcoins in the dustbin, a trend reversal is seeming imminent, raising the question of whether we are at the verge of another earthquaking altseason.

Before the above question is answered, it is important that this writer very briskly describe what an altseason have come to mean in the crypto parlance. A typical altseason is a period of time during which most altcoins generally outperform Bitcoin in a manner that stuns the staunchest of Bitcoin maximalists.

The last altseason came between December 2017 and January 2018 when some altcoins did as much as X50 of their lowest market prices. It was a time when the Bitcoin dominance clashed below 55%. It was a fantastic moment.

So, do the market movements of the past few days suggest that an earthquaking altseason is imminent? Sincerely, I do not think so. While the rally could last for a few more days or even weeks, it is unlikely that some altcoins will experience the kind of parabolic movements that were last seen two years ago.

I hold the views above largely because a Bitcoin halving is coming up in a few months, in May 2020 to be precise. At this point, it is more likely that more monies will flow into Bitcoin than would flow into altcoins, weakening any possible chance of having a full blown altseason. This is because wherever the smart money goes, determines which coin will pumb or dumb.

However, this does not mean that the ongoing altcoin rally will suddenly wear out. In fact, it is likely that some more gains will be made in the next few weeks before the market reverses or stagnates again in favour of Bitcoin.

The real massive altseason that will see X10 or more is not likely to happen until Bitcoin sets another all-time high record. In the interim, let us enjoy the party while it lasts.

Many altcoins are actually better than Bitcoin (BTC) itself. For example both Steem and Steem Dollars (SBD). Transactions are free and fast (3 seconds block time) for both of these altcoins, so I think that the Bitcoin (BTC) dominance should be much below than 50%. Altcoins, including Steem and Steem Dollars (SBD) should be listed on more exchanges. For example on Coinbase.

Hi @gandhibaba

I will say a saying, very Venezuelan:

Let the party continue while the body holds.

I like your optimism especially because somehow those of us who are within Steem and who live in countries like yours and mine, we will be very well benefited.

Greetings friend.

This altseason as you have said as rendered many shitcoin to thrive beyong one's imagination. I notice the same thing even with steemit too. I used to compare to price of steemit with bitcoin everyday to see which one increases in rate than the other.

That's what a typical altseason represents, massive gains from the unlikeliest of coins. Let's hope that comes handy in the coming days. Cheers!

I share your sentiments too. 2021 will be very massive because BTC should see another ATH by then. Cheers!

I don't know but there are a lot of positive signs. Coins surging 40-80 percent in 6-8 weeks.

Sure, no one knows for sure what exactly is taking place but, as you've clearly stated, the signs appear positive. Let's hope for the best.

Ivan on Tech has been a big proponent of the allt season. I think the major driver is decentralized applications. One key thing that really got me on board was how development is moving onto browsers.

I can tell you for free that you came onboard for the right reason. Alts will gain some momentum later this year and mostly in 2020. Cheers!

I've been pro crypto for a couple years now. I can say I've been on board since then. I was using the phrase as more of an expression of excitement when learning about the new browser development standard. It was said that's an easier way to develop for mobile platforms while also facilitating more people to be developers. All leading to the internet becoming what we have seen in movies and truly empower people. Here of course, crypto has the opportunity to take the center stage.

hi @gandhibaba

I am optimistic like you, and I think we are at the beginning of a positively long and good stage for altcoins and especially steem and sbd. These mergers and alliances bring good things and I know that for our countries like Venezuela it is something that adds up a lot. Let's be optimistic and keep the party going for many years!

Thanks for stopping by friend. I do hope that the prices go up and up from here with a little, ignorable downsides.
