Market Friday goes to Quincy Market of Boston

(Edited)

Welcome to #MarketFriday by @dswigle (Denise, that's me!)) We are in Boston again and if memory serves me correctly, I will probably have another one for Sunday. Then we can put Boston to bed for a month or three.

Boston's first public market, Faneuil Hall stands adjacent to the site where Quincy Market is now located. It was built in 1742 when the colonies were in their infancy. A gathering place, as many markets were, long ago and far away, yesterday's Patriots like Sam Adams gathered a crowd, giving them a thrill with his Anti-England rant, fanning the fire for freedom.

Quincy Market is the famous Boston Food Market located within Faneuil Hall Marketplace. It has over one hundred food stores and carts. If you're at Faneuil Hall, you are already there. Entertainment in the Market is commonplace, especially in the warmer summer months. You will see dancers, jugglers or any variety of different entertainment. It was actually quite fun to watch this acrobat on his unicycle.

#3MF.JPG

Quincy Market was built to provide the much-needed space as downtown grew. They added the indoor market and vendor stalls. Faneuil Hall was on the waterfront and when Quincy Market was erected, the market was built on a landfill that was once part of the harbor. With the market traffic, six new streets were built to accommodate it.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

How to Participate:

1. Go to the market! Any market will do! Food, Clothing, Plant or Animal, if you wish. You can go to the zoo or an art auction. Anywhere or anything that you pay money for a service. I once went to a nail salon.
2. Take pictures! Be creative (or not)
3. Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
4. Post the picture(s)
5. Don’t forget to hashtag it! #MarketFriday by @dswigle
6. Drop the link to your post here so I can easily find them

It is always interesting to see the different markets around the globe! C’mon! Show me your market shots! I eagerly await them!

The market is fronted by a paved plaza featuring granite benches and lighting fixtures. To the north and south of the building are the North and South markets, which are separated from Quincy Market by stone and brick-paved areas featuring granite seating, wooden benches, lighting fixtures, outdoor vendors, and planting beds each containing a tree, according to QuincyMarket. org

IMG_4018.JPG

Please leave the link to your post on here so it can easily be found by others. They will all be in one place!! Thank you! ❤

#2.JPG

Take two, they are small! You know you can't just have one!

I hope you will join us as we share different markets. It has been such a pleasure to see markets from all over the world. Who doesn't love to see what they are selling? There is always a curiosity attached to foreign ingredients, different produce or any product sold. So, yes! I would love to see yours! So don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery, art galleries, wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Don't forget to use the hashtag #marketfriday and @dswigle.

#8MF.JPG

A bucket of Chowda - to go!

#9MF.JPG

The very beautiful center copper dome that covers the second-floor seating area. Everything about Boston is beautiful. It was built with opulence and formality in mind. Everything has glorious lines in their architecture.

IMG_4101.JPG

A Christmas store - all year round. Oh, be still my heart. This one's for me! I want to break out in a verse of Oh, Come All Ye Faithful, but, the clerk is eyeballing me. Just like she can read my mind. I think I will sing it anyway.

STOP!! BRAIN TEASER AHEAD!!

Question: What five-letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it?

source

Answer:Short

Love me ‘til I’m blue, my love
Wipe my every tear
Catch my heart before I fall
I'm strolling the line, can't you see
Far and away
Never to play
That melody to my heart
Again
Love, love me - Do

As always, there must be a flower. Always. This picture is dedicated to #FridaySkyBlue #ColorChallenge by @Kalemandra, who colors my world every day.

Cover me with a blanket of your memory
As I dare to reach out - and touch your soul
Fill it with sunshine, then let it go, let it go

#7MF.JPG

Oh, the story about this weathervane has many twist and turns. Read about it here The real story? Above London’s Royal Exchange was a grasshopper weathervane recognized around the world as a symbol of commerce. Faneuil Hall was built on Boston’s then-shoreline, and Peter Faneuil no doubt intended it as a symbol of commerce, beckoning to ships that put into Boston Harbor. Faneuil Hall became a hub of commercial activity, a launching pad for independence from Britain and a center of abolitionism.

#6MF.JPG

A cartload of nesting dolls. Patriotic ones. How could you resist?

#10MF.JPG

The plaza surrounding the Market is a hotbed of activity. Eating, playing chess and shopping. It is the place to see and be seen.

Even a colonist needs to eat. It helps keep his patiotism intact.

#11 MF.JPG

Let the sun shine in on your life
So the joy may touch your soul

#0MF.JPG

And just like that, this post is done. Thank you for taking a short excursion to the Quincy Market. I will be back in Boston on Sunday for another #BeautifulSunday by @Ace108 and #SublimeSunday by @c0ff33a! Heads up to get those posts ready!*

I have been discovering new places, some right in my own area! This week, I went to a new farmers market that was two minutes from my house and while I was there, discovered another farm that sells eggs. Yay! I love to share and be shared with! I am intrigued by different cultures. It is exciting and yes! I would love to see yours! Don't forget to take photos wherever you happen to be shopping - whether it be the grocery store, the local marketplace or even an art gallery, a kite festival! Wherever money is exchanged for a service or for merchandise. Be different if you wish! It does not have to be a traditional market! We will love it! I promise you! Don't forget to use the hashtag #MarketFriday and @dswigle.

Thank you for visiting my post 💖 Because of you, I come back to post again and again, I am encouraged by you, for the time you take to visit, comment or even upvote. For all of these reasons, I am eternally grateful. Don't ever forget what a wonderful world we live in, people. Let's hold hands around the globe and make this earth really spin. Some days, it is not as easy to see, how wonderful it really is. Kindness counts. Wherever you go, whatever you do.

I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?

i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.

later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,

"everywhere"
"everywhere"
"everywhere"

Hehe! Yeah! They stole that one from the British Stock Exchange. :)

It is such a peaceful place and there is so much to do that it makes it a most delightful place to visit. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a few words! Have a fabulous Friday!

This truly looks like a really nice place to visit during relaxing weekends.
Unfortunately it is too far for me to visit at the moment, as it would take more than a day to fly there. 😆

It is a nice place to relax on the weekends! I wish I could go there every day. I surely can understand it being too far away! That would take away some o that relaxing about it!

Have a wonderful Friday! Thank you for visiting #MarketFriday!

Oh, yeah! You haven't lived til you have had one. They take lobster meat and break it into bite sized pieces and take a buttered roll and put it on it. It's delicious and you can walk around with it, unlike a lobster!

And you actually get the meat of a whole lobster tail in one. It is absolutely Yummy! :)

Thanks for visiting #MarketFriday and I hope you have an awesome day!

The building is remarkable, I wouldn't have thought it was a market there. The center copper dome resembles a church dome and is very beautiful and the photo looks very good.
I really like the outside of the market and I would like to walk there ... after I ate a bucket of Chowda. I don't know if I understand what this is but I think it's tasty.
I managed to go to the market this Friday too!

Eating a bucket of chowda is kind of poking fun at their well-known (in the States) accent. The Chowda is Oyster Chowder, something they are well known for. It was bad of me to make a joke that many wouldn't understand. My apologies.

It is a beautiful place, but, this post did not do it justice. I was so late in starting it. I think it was 9 pm, which, I should have already been done and I hadn't even edited one picture. Yikes! Well, better I will be prepared next week. I say that every week! I hope.

I look forward to your market! It is always a pleasure to see one from you. Have a fabulous Friday!

Yes, well, Quincy Market is more famous for what it was rather than what it is today. It was the center of all commerce for the area. It is still a nice place to stroll about or stop for a game of chess. I love doing that! Thank you for stopping by to say hello and leaving such kind words behind.

What a cool Post i had heard about Quincy market of course, but now I know so much about it, I do look out for weather vanes and find them so cool, that one you shared with its history I willfor sure be on the lookout for when I visit Boston :)

Thanks for this great post and being an active member and great guide of @steemusa !tip

You will not miss it, I can assure you! :) If you do, ask anyone!

Of course, I wish I had taken more time on this, but, once you sit down and look, you don't have the pictures you thought you did. Isn't that always the way. Anyway, it was a fun time there and I know you will love it when you get out there. You do know that it is only a couple hours from you right now. Then again, Boston is not the place I want to be on a long weekend. LOL

I hope you are having a fabulous Friday and yes! The weekend is almost upon us!

Thanks for being a great Guide for #SteemUSA!

Yeah I know it snot far but with Lulus health now she isnt up to to many longer drives and full days out so I don’t Ike heading out that far for a day out taking photos, but when we are closer to family I already have it all Planned LUlu will be with Jenne Mark or the Kids and me and whoever wats to come will be off for photo excursions including Boston of course ;)

Ohh es I know what you mean I started to prepare a post last night Nd then I could not find the photos I wanted to use, I looked in my edited photo folder and then all through Lightroom and could not find them which is kind of Bizarre I can so remember taking and editing them recently, unless it was dream shooting and editing,, which with me anything is possible LOL

Well, that is true. Everything feels further when your health is compromised. You will have plenty of time once you move closer and it will make it even better that there is no guilt in going as she will have her daughter and family! Bonus!

I know I took more photos than what I was looking at, but, that only means I need to go back again. You know how that hurts. LOL I hope you find yours but I have no trouble believing that you have thousands more to choose from!

Have a great afternoon!

Yes that is so true things will be so different without work getting in the way lol
I really am intrigued about these photos I will look again but I have all my photos in Lightroom and are very good at adding keywords when I import them
I suspect it was a dream because when I search for the dragon sculpture I swear I saw one day I cannot find any reference to it so either it was a vivid dream it I am loosing my marbles both are equally plausible

And any excuse t revisit a place one likes is a good excuse in my opinion

Isn't that funny? I have dreamed so vividly I cannot tell the difference, only that I know that it wouldn't happen.

How weird. And spooky. When I finally lose my marbles, it won't matter anymore, it will all seem like a reality. LOL

Any excuse to revisit is always a good excuse! Yes! That!

That’s how some of my dreams are so vivid they seem so real which is OK when there a bit off the wall and you know they can’t be real
It’s the almost normal ones that confuse the heck out of me

0

Yes!!! That is so true! I made myself get up and make a note to myself in the kitchen - so that I could tell if it was a dream. Who is that crazy?

0
0
0.000
avatar

well I am crazy, and I have done that I used to keep a notepad by my bed for years and if I woke up from a dream I would jot down notes when I remembered it

But then I stopped it as sometimes I would wake up with crazy notes about mathematical formulas and Other weird things, that I would look up, some of these were back when Google wasn't a thing like it is now and find them in Books of complex math theory that I am not even sure I ever studied
and one other time I woke to a story that I guess I had written, about 40 Pages of writing and I could make out a lot of the wors but a lot of the writing I couldn't even make out, it seemed to be some sort of drama about modern day pirates, and according to my ex, she got up and saw me writing but when she asked I just said something crazy about why was she in my private villa, and to leave

So Bizarre, I knew I sleep walked and made sandwiches in a sleep state that I never ate or maybe one bite, but not write books lOL

PS when we used to have bread in the house only a year or two ago I still made sandwiches in the night

So yes I am crazy

Hey wait did you see it? The colonist, right? See what he has? Lol this is my brain teaser on your post. Sorry, not sorry lol. He has my bag! Oh you should have really made his day and said nice bag. It is really nice when that happens!

Those are quite the lighting fixtures. Don't think they could add another bulb to it lol.

Oh that clerk could read you like a magazine from a mile away. She could tell an elf when she sees one. ;)

Aww the thought of you ever shedding a tear is too painful for my heart. You are the kindest and best soul. You give out so much sunshine and amaze me every day.

Oh do they have a Franklin nesting doll? Oh I will have to put that on my bucket list!

Market Friday is looking rather weak on my end. I may have to really push the boundaries lol.

Your posts always make me wish I could experience the place like you did. That means it was an awesome post. Well done Princess.

Haha! I actually thought of you when I saw that bag!! I swear it! Well, if I cussed, I would swear it. But, all of the colonists had one. So, you are a throwback and you didn't know it! I should have told him nice bag anyway.

Those are high voltage fixtures, don't you think? It should make you feel better to know that they light up like a Christmas Tree (read that as bright) when it is nighttime. One more bulb would blow out the city, I know it would. Then whose fault would it be? Don't go blaming me when the RedCoats come for you. :)

Yeah, the clerk pretty much knew I was Christmas Crazy. I spent a couple of hours minutes there. Well spent, I might add. Franklin nesting doll? you know it!!! Hehe. That means you will have to go there. You will like that better than any historical sight you have ever gone to - to date. I insist on it. I love NYC, but, I love Boston better for the close proximity that most of the historical places are to each other. So very walkable. No worries on your market. Mine is actually pretty weak this week also, I just didn't have the pictures I needed and it was so late and... shall I go on? Such a good excuse maker for not being prepared!

I am glad if you liked it. It was an awesome place and when I go back, I will know much better what I want out of it. I didn't have #MarketFriday in mind whenever I have gone before. :) Thank you for stopping by and for leaving such a kind and thoughtful comment. I hope you are having a fabulous Friday!

No way José this is a great mf! Say I told you I am a dinosaur! You just never believed me lol

Say was the bag a part of the style back then? Now I am curious. Drats I am always 200 years behind the times.

I stayed up till 2 waiting for you to post and faded due to 100 degree heat lol.

Did you know you always make me smile. Seriously you crack me up always!

I truly think you were further behind than 200 years! Always late to the party!! I was wishing for a little sleep before two, but, that wasn't in the plan. Obviously. I paid dearly for it today, no worries. Here is a little something for you. :)

A 16th-Century Messenger Bag?
As pockets became an integral part of clothing during the 17th century, men no longer needed to carry handbags for anything other than the bulkiest of items—books, documents, and letters.

YEASSS! Sweet thanks Sunshine! Did you see the sporran on the guy with the kilt right before the bag? I might have to get me a kilt for the Ren Fest in September. Plus I might have to grow my hair :D Oh yeah I can be a real Gypsy, hillbilly, kilt wearing nutter with a bag. Yeah I know it I was 500 years too late to the party. Of course you would have been the Queen 500 years ago, there is no doubt about that! Now you get a real Gypsy hillbilly kilt wearing nutter with a bag big upvote for all your work showing it to me :D . You are the best, I always said it.

The coffee must be kicking in. I solved the riddle. LOL. The more I am seeing of Boston, the more I am likin' it. The market area does remind me some of Vancouver's Gastown but perhaps Quincy is a little more for everyday folks. Gastown is very touristy here. A big bowl of seafood chowder sounds good right now. Splendid #marketfriday share, Denise:):):)

Haha! You riddle-solver! Let's blame it on the coffee! Seattle's best, right?

I just know that Boston is right up your alley, so to speak. Oh! Gastown!! What a great place for the tourist in me. I loved it, but, it has been a while since I was there. The Steam Clock was totally awesome and yes! I watched it blow. LOL Don't all of the tourists? I am a huge fan of the cities that are cobblestoned. Makes such a romantic sight. It truly does.

The chowder was perfect and the lobster roll divine. Oh, I am a sucker for anything that swims for a living! I need to make it back up to Vancouver. I used to go almost every year. Oh! Then life happened.

Thanks for stopping by and always leaving such a delightful running commentary. LOL You and DD @ddschteinn! The best! As always, I wish you a fabulous Friday and thank you for dropping the link. On time, no less! Stop spoiling me!

So much to see, do ........and eat. What anamzing place to visit. I was interested to read about the grasshopper weather vane being a symbol of commerce. And, Oh those lobsters! So close (via my computer screen) yet sooooo far away. I'm sure our mutual friend (@hangin) posts images of his Thai lobsters every now and again to tempt me and cause a lot of envy (lol) (U & R )

Oh, yes!!! To be sure! You know he does!! I love Boston and it is one of those cities that I think you would too. The historical aspect of it alone appeals to my tastebuds. :)

The lobsters are to die for and plentiful and cheap. All seafood is, growing up, we just all caught our own and paid nothing. LOL

The grasshopper was British and of course, we copied them. :) Thank you for your always wonderful comments and posts. I hope you have a most wonderful weekend and Cheers! We need a toast! Or wine.

As always an informative and historical as well. I hope we have acrobats in our markets for entertainment. The only jugglers i see in our market are the peddlers and porters.

Jusy walking there window shopping is an entertainment itself.

If you want I can join you singing christmas songs. I think the clerk is just waiting for someone to break into a song and would love to join in lol!

Didn't know about the vane. Anothet new thing learned today.

Here is my #marketfriday for this week.

Oh, yes, please! I would love for you to sing with me!!! I have been taking up all three parts by myself. Another voice in the crowd will be welcome! We will make @Prydefoltz take part too!

The entertainment there is amazing and there is always more than one set of it going on. You can tell where it is as the people stand all around in a circle around them. When I was there the other day, there were six different sets of entertainment! It was bizarre!

I try to put little things in that might interest people, but, it is always hard to tell what will interest them! Thanks again for dropping your link and I hope you have a great weekend!

Heheh interesting brain teaser you got there this time.

I wonder how many people do break out in song when in that Christmas. I’m more of a one month of songs and that sprit is good enough for me. I might go a little stir crazy if I had Christmas music playing all year long.

Well I hope you managed to fit a couple lobster into a purse or a suitcase on your way back home. A little extra something for later! No one would blame you.

Have a great Friday and weekend.

Okay, I know the brain teaser was a little bit on the lame side... but, most people didn't get it

Oh, I will bet a lot more break out in song than don't! I'm telling you! :) One or three month is good for me, any more than that and I might put up another tree. I think that a lot of Church songs sound just like Christmas, so I am used to that sound! LOL

I grew up in Connecticut and Maine Lobster was a staple in our household. They were cheap and easy to get. We did all our fishing, clamming etc as we lived right on the water. Any of my family that comes to visit (which is often) brings a few with them and if a month goes by, my mom used to pack some in dry ice and send them. Seaweed included.

I was tempted to throw a few in. Sadly, I took that for granted and I can never get enough of them. Sweet, succulent and OMG... I love them. Hey. thank you so much for stopping in and saying hello, leaving those always kind words behind. You are one of the good ones! I thank you for that!

Have a fabulous Friday!

Oh, you are such a sweet woman!!! Do you know that you upvote me every day??? I tell you this because I want to thank you so much for your thoughtfulness AND to let you know that your autovote is set too early!!! Yours votes right away and you must wait until the post is 15 minutes or the person loses 60% of the vote. It goes into the rewards pool. We all know who that feeds. :)

Anyway, I love those nesting dolls too and obviously, so do a lot of other people!!!

Thank you for joining #MarketFriday this week, and dropping the link!!!! And I hope you have the most incredible weekend!

Oh! I knew I had you voted right away, I thought YOU got the extra percentage that way! I will have to figure out how to get back in there. Last time I tried, things had changed so I just put it off. Thanks for explaining that to me! And thanks for always being such a doll, yourself!

You are such a sweetypie! Steemauto is what I use to autovote, although I have to go back and set up a steemconnect account now to use it for some reason. I like it because it keeps me spreading reward pool SBD around even when I am flaking... lol!

I ❤️ Quincy Market!!!! I have many fond memories from my teens, taking the T into Boston from Manchester, MA and hanging out there for the day with friends! If only I'd thought to have my camera (my original 35mm Nikon) with me back then! I couldn't do one helluva Market Friday!

Ah well - Should'a Could'a Would'a, right? 😂

Love the little historical trivia too. Oh, and I'm ridiculously pleased with myself that I figured out the brain teaser. Adore all your shots, but I have to say that capture of the dome is especially fantabulous!

Thanks for this wonderfully nostalgic (for me) Market Friday.

Oh, and guess what?

Yep, you guessed it!

I HAVE A MARKET FRIDAY POST TODAY!!!!

My first Market Friday - Shopping at Lowes

So happy I finally remembered to bring my camera whilst shopping so I could join in the fun! Oh, and - !tip

I love Boston! I have many fond memories of it too as some of my relatives from France landed in Boston and pretty much stayed local. You know those colonists never went far from where they came from.

I am just as bad, all these awesome memories and 0 pictures. We lived in the moment, even though we all had 35 mm sitting home just begging to be used! Oh, well. I only grabbed a few pictures last night at 9 pm for MarketFriday. I am soooo slow and even though I thought I was prepared, well, I wasn't LOL I will be doing one more on #BeautifulSunday in Boston because it really was and then I will move on to somewhere else, lest anyone get tired of it! I cannot see that happening, but, I need to keep it moving around.

I want to thank you for taking the time to take pictures AND for putting together a post. I know how difficult that is when you are busy! I cannot always get myself together, but, that is a horse of another color.

You got the brain teaser!!!?? Good for you. I try to be easy on you all once in a while. LOL No, this wasn't one of those times! Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!

My family started up in Canada a bunch of generations back, but then ended up n the Gloucester, MA area. Since you're familiar with the area, I thinking I can say that I grew up in Magnolia, and you won't respond, "Mongolia? Where's that in Massachusetts?" 😂 #truestory

And come on, seriously? Get tired of Bean Town? The hell you say! I'll keep an eye open for it tomorrow, and just think - I've been posting pictures of my backyard FOREVER and no one's getting tired of it. Well, they haven't told me they have... hmmm, maybe I should ask around... 😉

You're very welcome, and thank you in return for the motivation to do this! Definitely challenging sometimes to put together posts, but always worth it - especially when awesome people like yourself drop by to see it.

Hope you're having a fantabulous weekend, dear lady!

Looks like the perfect place for me. I want a pretzel and would look at those dolls. Also try to avoid the food stalls but I know that would be impossible.

Here's my link, late as always https://steemit.com/marketfriday/@erikah/handmade-hand-painted-ceramics

Yes!!! I did have a pretzel! That is how I found the Colonist, he was getting one too. It was impossible to avoid all those booths, but I settled on some Chowder and a lobster roll.

Who could resist? Quite reasonable too. Otherwise, it would still be there.

No worries about the link. I just like to make it easier for people to peruse the different links. Thanks again, my lovely!

Hahaha! No!!! Well, yes, but, that is not the reason. It is easier to find everyone and peruse through the different Markets for people. A lot of people use these as a cultural experience if you will.

To be honest, I don't think I ever did participate in Market Fridays. But it sure seems like people are having fun it. I will have to give it a try when I go get my groceries.

I loved the colonist guy get a pretzel. And, I absolutely failed in brainteaser test. lol

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Have an amazing day. :)

That would be awesome, of course! We would love to be represented by Croatia! It's a fact, I started this as a way of sharing cultures across the world and it has been interesting.

So many differences, yet so many likenesses. It seems strange to me that this group of people can get along so well, yet the world is not always so peaceful. I know we have had this talk before. :)

I usually fail my own brainteasers, although this one I got!

You know you can use anything for #MarketFriday, we all get quite creative. So yes!! I would love you to join, time providing. I have people drop the links on the post so people can peruse through them when they have time. It makes interesting reading.

Thanks again for stopping by! So happy to hear from you!

He did take the pretzel!!!! He heard you all the way from Annecy!!! :) It really is a fun little city to be in. In general, cities are to big and dirty, but some are wonderful and fun to see and visit, such as Boston, and Washington, DC... There are many more but, for the big ones, I like those best probably.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting and I want to take a moment for the everyday support you give me.
