Growing Use of Community Fridges

Over the past several years we have seen community libraries pop up in various places around the world. Now there is a growing demand for pop up community fridges too. While you might have found the occasional free food item in a community library, now there are specific community fridges that offer produce and other items.

Anyone who has extra is able to come by and leave whatever they have, anything that they want to donate.

Those individuals who are in need in the community have the ability to come and grab something to eat, no questions asked, and return again later if there is still any need. It provides a quiet and anonymous solution to the food hunger need in many communities.

Feeding The Need

In California, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and other regions, there has been great popularity for these community fridges. You can find almost anything from lettuce and tomatoes to milk, sour cream, cheese, and other items.

More than 30 million people struggle with hunger and meeting their own food needs in the United States

At least 10 million of those are estimated to be children.

There are millions of people who are in desperate need of a little bit of help and for them going to a community fridge might be an easier solution for them than going to a food bank. Many food banks around the country are seeing growing demand for their supplies as well.

Anyone who needs food help can access community fridges in their area if they are available.

There is no cost to those who need it, take what you need because it is free. The point of these fridges is to help address the food security that exists in communities across the country.

Those behind the food fridge projects have encouraged individuals in their communities to donate whatever excess food they might have right now that can go a long way to helping vulnerable families in their region.

Food pantries and community fridges are a very good idea. Too bad so many extrapolate from this and say we need government sticking guns in peoples' faces for money because charity is such a good idea.
