Follow Friday: Hey ho, let's go!

The News

The big news has to be the massive influx of new users to Hive via @splinterlands. More people are joining each day than have been active on most of the dapps. The lure of riches from SPS could be a major driver, but I would hope they will realise there are many ways to earn with a Hive account. I do wonder if the game can sustain this recruitment given the cost, but if they are using the starter pack fees to fund it then maybe they can.

Prices
From @coingecko

Also exciting is today's surge in the $HIVE price. We have seen it overtake 'the other coin' a few times, but maybe it will stick. It has a much larger volume in trades and some of those signing up will be wanting some to power up their new accounts.

Friday Follows

I can always find some people to promote here. I know others do their own promotions of accounts under various themes, but #FollowFriday has a long history and it would be great to see it grow on Hive. Let me know if you do a post.

I will be doing a new #BritList tomorrow, so let me know of any new users in the UK that you find. Not all are obvious from their profiles.

  • @tdctunes is a new Brit on Hive. He is a friend of @stickupboys and a fellow musician into modular synthesizers.
  • @igm.project is a musician in Iran where things are very different. Many forms of music are surpressed there and may actually be considered illegal.
  • @british-bulldog just got onto Hive via Splinterlands and is getting into the strategy.
  • Comic artists @sidekickmatt, @drwatson and @northwestnomad could do with more engagement on their posts. Creative people love some feedback and I am sure more people would enjoy some comics in their feed.

The Doghouse

This is a bit of a strange case. @nathangraham is a Youtube gamer who has been here a couple of years. He also posts as @phasewalker using videos from the same account, but does not seem to duplicate across them. What he does do is to post the same video several times to different communities. That is considered bad behaviour as you can earn several times from the same content. What we have is 'cross-post' in peakd and ecency (and possibly other dapps) that just shares a link. I have tried to tell him this, but he will not listen. I commented on Youtube where he denied knowledge of Hive. I do wonder if he uses ecency and does not know what it runs on. I know he posts to 'the other blockchain' too, so he has some idea of what he is doing.

One of his accounts has now muted me, so he will not see my comments and he did the same to others who tried to educate him. It is not as if he is making much, but his behaviour will not improve matters. He has also been guilty of copy/paste comments. Some time ago he claimed to be a 'content creator' with no time to engage on Hive, but you have to do it to build a following.

I am assuming this is not a fake account just stealing the videos, but as it is any earnings are not really deserved and may be removed. He could take some advice and verify his account to get me to leave him alone. Perhaps others can try. I know some people here do not have good social skills, so maybe this is an extreme case.

The End

So that ends another #FollowFriday. I hope you have a great weekend and that Hive is good to you. I think we have to remember that it is a social platform and should be fun. Life is not just about money.

Hive five!

Keeping a britlist is a cool idea. I was thinking about doing the same for Japan (as I live here). There is already a Japanese hive group for Japanese living all over the world, so I was thinking expats in Japan. Not sure, have to consider more. At any rate, are you just keeping the list in a spreadsheet or how are you managing that?

Let's hope Hive can keep climbing. Splinterlands is giving Hive a tremendous opportunity with all these new people it's drawing in. Hope we can get them to stick around.

I have a text file and use this script to generate a post. I use some @hivesql queries to find people. If you want help with these then let me know. I just ran a query for Japan and Tokyo that found a few.

Thanks for the info @steevc. ...I'm afraid I don't have the slightest idea how to run that script or how to query the hivesql database. How would I do either of these things?

For HiveSQL you need to register here for a small fee. You can run queries in various tools, including Excel. I could provide you some with SQL for that. I could help you work on a list of people if you want and I can run the script to generate the list for a post. Probably easier to discuss on Discord or email. I am steevc on Gmail too.

Thanks for the shoutout! In about a week we'll be moving on to the Inks for the comic, and I always love to watch that jump in art quality (almost as exciting as the jump to color)

It will definitely be interesting to see if these prices hold. I guess either way I will be here, so it doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. Are the appropriate people downvoting that user? Just want to make sure he is getting (or not) what is due him!

I expect the price will wander up and down, but I hope the trend is upwards.

That guy is not really making anything, so it's no big deal. I have given minor downvotes to try to encourage him to change his ways. Hivewatchers has hit him too.

Would love to see the price hold up this level for sometime and even surge higher. Hope Splinterlands continues to perform and other communities work on bring more users to the platform. Hive to the moon

It has gone higher! Someone has confidence in it. The Splinterlands thing has to be helping with that.

No problem. I know it can be hard to get started. You have to find your audience. There are lots of musicians here who could be interested in your experiences.

Can I link my hive account to Splinterlands? Or somehow play the game with my Hive login?

If you have Hive Keychain set up you should be able to log in with that. I have an affiliate link, but I don't think I make much from it. You have to buy a pack to start.

You could also check out Rising Star by the same means. That costs nothing to start playing.

Thanks for the link, I'll try and give it a go!

Although I don't see Hive keychain as an option for login? Just all access, wombat, metamask and arkane?

You can try your user name and posting key. Do you have Keychain installed? You should not have to create a new account.

I tried it in another browser and only got this prompt after I installed the Keychain extension. Otherwise it wanted posting key.

I see you in there now! I think I only earn something if people buy with things other than DEC and I think that is fairly rare. Thanks anyway. Enjoy the game.

The gameplay seems fun, just beat the tutorial, but even after you pay the 10 USD (12 hive) to get started they don't give you any cards to start with, and at the moment all card packs are sold out, so there's currently no way to actually play the game without buying individual cards on the marketplace

They ought to give you some cards in the starter pack! I know they have been giving less in daily rewards lately. I have delegated some Fire cards to you as I'm not playing those at the moment.

oh wow, thanks! I didn't know you could delegate cards the way we delegate HP. That's awesome man, thank you
