Follow Friday: Billions!

avatar

The News

A lot of people were understandably excited when Coinmarketcap was showing this. Of course it was too good to be true and it soon reverted to the real price. It was nice to feel like a billionaire for a few minutes.

$HIVE

The current price is not too bad considering it is around ten times what we had at the start of the year.

Prices

There is a #HiveAdventCalendar on Twitter. Check it out for suggestions of things you can be doing to support the platform.

https://twitter.com/hiveblocks/status/1471666078824779784

The latest is about your goals for next year. I have been adding around 1000 HP per month to my account through posting, curation and what I have made from games and tribes. I also bought some, but that will be less viable if the price keeps going up. I hope to maintain that rate through 2022. I also want to get a lot more people signed up to Hive. I have claimed lots of account creation tokens that I am keen to use. If you know someone who wants an account let me know, but I would really like to see that they are active on other platforms.

Friday Followings

I keep looking out for people to feature. I have known some of these for a while, but suggestions are always welcome and you can do your own #FollowFriday posts.

  • @consciouscat joined a few months ago and seems to have the right idea about what Hive is.
  • @run.vince.run has written a book about running that I am sure will be inspirational. Could be a great Christmas present.
  • I keep searching for people to add to the #BritList and @magnauseum was a recent one. They are still getting to know how this all works, but have already found some of the games.
  • @basilmarples entertained me this week with a fun back story for a Punks on Hive character and some cool music jams happening at his place.
  • The prolific @soundlegion has put out a great set of songs that you can download for free.

These people will get a share of the post rewards.

The Doghouse

We had another case of someone creating lots of junk comments to self-vote. Luckily it was spotted and dealt with quickly. A higher $HIVE price makes it less viable to create lots of accounts with HP, but we are still likely to see this happen. People are looking out for it.

Something else I have seen is people using the @exhaust dapp to post about their exercise, but not taking any effort to actually say anything about it. That seems ironic if they are willing to expend energy in other ways. The developer is looking at ways to discourage this. Currently they may get an automatic vote, but that could change. Rewards need to be earned.

We get to decide who earns rewards on Hive. If it does have rapid growth we are likely to see people churning out low effort posts in hope of earning. Even if you do not want to downvote you can still concentrate on supporting the good stuff that will bring in others.

The End

We are rapidly approaching the end of the year. I hope it has been a good one for you, despite the ongoing issues. Maybe 2022 can be better. I do feel that Hive is on the cusp of breaking out with all the exciting developments going on. We can all be part of that and should be looking to help others join it too.

Hive five!

Not that I know anything as I'm such a noob, but there does seem to be a sense of things 'happening' on Hive. For example, more landscape photographers have joined recently, which for me is really exciting. Maybe some sort of critical mass is being reached....

If I could go back to when I joined in August, I would have bought some Hive when it was cheaper. I am looking forward to the day when my vote is worth more than about 0.01. That will be my Hive goal for next year. :)

Good to hear we are gaining photographers. Hive could be great for them.

If you keep powering up your rewards your vote will soon gain value. I have delegated to you to boost it a little.

Thank you Steve!!! That is absolutely awesome of you!!!

I was chatting to @tdctunes about dust votes yesterday - something that his post brought my attention to - I was guilty of it and had no idea... This means that I have the capacity to upvote a comment, and it not be wasted. Woohoo!

The higher price means less dust votes. Please don't use your votes on me though. Others need them more.

:) OK! :)

But it was nice to celebrate my new voting power, by rewarding the person that enabled it, with my first non-dust vote. 😀

Happy Friday Steve!

Thanks again for a super useful post!

Yeah it's been interesting times the last few weeks with the price of Hive changing. Personally I will be happy if it just increases in value slowly but steadily because I think it's best for people really using it as a platform if the main currency is relatively stable. I'd also still like to buy more myself before it rockets!

Happy Friday @steevc and everyone!

It will be interesting to see where the price goes. Steady growth seems more sustainable, but there does seem to be a lot of speculation from Korea. We need to keep growing in various directions and regions. I think music will be an important part of it,

Yep - good point about growing in various directions - because Hive can be so many different things!

Hi Steevc! Thanks for the mention. It's encouraging to see that there is much more to Hive than I first realised. I tried Splinterlands (lots of people are loving it, evidently) but not so sure it's for me. It's been good to discover other communities here though, such a broad range of interests and experiences, so I'm enjoying that. I can very easily spend several hours just scrolling and reading posts.

We do cover a lot of interests here. It's not just about crypto. There are a fair few games here. I have played Splinterlands a lot, but for now I am just renting out my cards. I am into @risingstargame that is about music, but there are a fair few others.

Keep having fun.

I kind of wonder if I've given up too quickly on Splinterlands, but that's typical me, moving on to something else if a thing doesn't grab me right away. I will take a look at Rising Star Game, thanks. 👍

I'm not a big gamer, but Splinterlands provided a little daily challenge. You do need to build up a deck to have any real chance. Rising Star is free to start playing, but is less strategic. It supports the music community and that is what drew me in.

That is and has been a huge issue over on Actifit. We were dealing with those posts in the Sports group and always going back and forth about whether or not they are okay. There was the argument that the exercise itself was the effort and therefore they should be allowed. I didn't necessarily agree with that, but others did.

Well it is up to those who vote to decide, but just saying you did something is not that entertaining. I wouldn't necessarily give it a vote.

I typically don't either. I remember it was a very heated debate though.

I think with some Actifit posts it's just the walking around they did anyway. I gave up on that dapp. I think @exhaust can provide better stats, but it's just one developer and so will take time to get more features.

I bet someone was panicking there for a while. I'd have been happy if I'd sold 1 HIVE at that price.

Whoa, I had no idea this happened. Even if it wasn't real, it sure looks like a fun (imaginary) ATH ride.

I saw someone mention it and managed to catch it before they fixed it. I wouldn't expect anyone to actually be paying that.
