An Important Castle Behind the Trees
Good night, little Bees!
Here is a nice shot for the #treetuesday initiative by @old-guy-photos.
The last few weeks I shared some photos from San Francisco... and today I bring you one from my own country, Portugal.
The castle you see among the trees is a very important one, maybe even the most important castle in Portugal, since the city of Guimarães is the cradle of our country. This is where the History of Portugal began, after a group of brave warriors conquered independence from Spain through blood, swords and tears.
The Castle of Guimarães is, of course, a very visited landmark and an unmissable place for anyone interested in knowing about the origins of our little country. It played a major part in several battles against the Spaniard because of its significance. Losing this castle would mean not only losing our independence but also our country and cultural identity.
Nowadays it is a very peaceful place... and you can listen to the birds chirping but in the past, a lot of blood was spilled here... and many lives were lost defending it from the invaders. 🗡️
All of that violent History is in the past now... and today our two nations are not only at peace with each other, our people really enjoy the company of one another. The Spaniards love visiting Portugal just as much as we enjoy going to Spain. The borders are open and there are no checkpoints. At least that was the case before the crazy Corona arrived.
We have a lot in common, even our languages are not that different. Most Portuguese can understand pretty much everything the Spanish say, even without taking any lessons. Oddly enough, the opposite isn't true. For some strange reason, Spanish people have a hard time understanding Portuguese. 😅
It's one of those unexplainable mysteries... 🤔

Nice to see a castle in a tree Tuesday post!!! Well done.
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it! 😁
That's a nice castle. For some reasons visions of Monty Python come to me... hehe. Good that wars with Spain are over these days!
Yeah, Monty Python would have a blast over here! 😅
Thanks for your visit!
Portugal has many medieval treasures, a rich history. I'd love to visit one day.
Yes, we do... but it's a pity they responsible parties don't know how to set up the inside of the castles like the Swiss do. They are usually very empty inside and with minimal decoration and / or tiny exhibits. There are a few exceptions... like Palácio de Sintra, that one is incredibly rich on the inside, too.... full of furniture and such! 😎
Thanks for dropping by!
Castle between the trees a lovely sight, steeped in history so prevalent to your region. Holding onto ones identity is strong in us, is it not?

It sure is! Many thanks for your visit and comment. 🤗

Nice to see a castle from Portugal :) I think you have many ancient medieval castles and a rich history going years back. Thanks for sharing.
We have plenty of them. I think any major city in Portugal without a castle is not really a city! 🤣
I'd love to visit that castle some day :D
I hope you can do it. 😊
