The snowstorm yesterday wasn't much of a storm. It did snow though. Today also.

I love snow! Although I do hope the huge snow piles will be taken away before spring.

Gotta watch that yellow snow, especially on frozen bikes. It might throw yellow icicles and then the obituary would be - Here lies our beloved friend died impaled upon an icicle smelling slightly of piss.

I hate snow, it's cold and wet.

If it's -20°C or colder the snow actually isn't that wet. And below -30°C the air itself is so dry that you can forget completely going to the toilet for number one because the air just sucks all the moisture out of you through your skin. And the same thing happens to the snow too, the air just dries it and if the snow touches your bare skin you will most probably become a mummy.

Death by icicle is almost a perfect murder, Agatha Christie taught me that. Or was it Sherlock Holmes? Can't remember. Anyway, if it's really cold and the icicle doesn't melt before the body is discovered, the obituary could say: "Here lies our faster than fast cyclist friend impaled by a lightning from a bike." That would be grand. "And the trusty companion was greased lightning!"

I do love snow although driving in a heavy snow is not fun at all but I love seeing falling snowflakes by the way! My tiny dog loves snow a lot, a lot. She likes to do her thing outdoor on the snow even it is super cold. 😂

Snow is beautiful indeed, when you're not in a hurry to go anywhere, can get to a warm place any time you want and when the snow isn't slush.

Dogs ❤️

It was almost 40 degrees Celsius today on the golf course. If I see correctly in the other comments, it was -20C there. That means it was 60 degrees difference. It is crazy to think about it.

And yes, we invent so many things to waste energy on (like the heated walkway!) And we wonder why we are in this predicament.

Plus, I think with today's heat here, I wouldn't mind a cold beer in those outside chairs!

P.S. When I was in Sweden, I also took images of those bikes covered in snow. It is very artsy!

Actually today it was only -3°C but a bit windy so perhaps felt like -10°C. It's been a while since there were really cold temperatures here in the southern parts. Still a crazy temperature difference though.

The heated walkway is a stupid thing in other ways too. It's just one block. Just. One. Block. So why, I ask. Pointless. And as it can't do miracles, it can only melt the snow and ice if the temperature isn't that cold, there never is a dry, non slippery ice layer there, but often a slippery "I'm melting" layer that, when really cold, melts a little and freezes, melts a little and freezes.

40°C is too much. It's agony. Terrible. Wouldn't it be grand to do the same as many here do if they have their own sauna, come out of 70-80°C heat and roll in the snow or jump in to a icy lake? You have to fill a bathtub with ice so that you won't melt.

Snowy bikes are pure art!

To my mind or frame of reference, -10C sounds seriously cold! But I know that can be much lower up north there in your world.

Oh, that just sounds dangerous. As I read what you wrote even before you mentioned it, I thought about how quickly the layer of melted ice would re-freeze and become even slippier and more dangerous! If this was South Africa, the government would have given the tender to someone who would also do it like that: only one block even though the funds would have gone for much more! What was the reasoning behind doing it for only such a small area and why do it even then? (Money, I guess?)

I wanted that yesterday out on the golf course! A heap of ice I could just fall into. When I jumped into the pool the water felt like bath water, it did not cool down!

What was the reasoning behind doing it for only such a small area

The building adjacent to the walkway is always responsible of the maintenance of the walkway. Sanding it in the winter and clearing the snow. Approx. 2 meters from the wall. Most housing cooperatives don't want it because it's of course expensive to install but easier to maintenance when the winter comes. Ideally the heated walkway should keep the street dry and without snow or ice all the time but when the weather changes a lot below and above zero, or there's a lot of snow, it's slow. The heat will do the clearing at some point but not instantly and lately the temperature has changed a lot from 0 to -10 and to -20 and back to almost 0.

Oh my that sounds hectic! And yes, the weather is really strange on this side of the pond as well. We had a week of almost 40C and today and tomorrow it is close to 15C. A massive drop in temperature. The poor plants do not know what to make with this heat and sudden colds!

That's a really huge temperature change. Every time the temperature drops here from 0 to -10 or a more in short time it feels so cold and it always takes a while until you get used to it. A drop from 40 to 15 is like... you must be freezing!

Indeed! The body is amazing regarding how quickly it adapts to certain temperatures. The massive fall in temps can quickly make your body go haywire, especially with craving certain foods and drinks. Like today, raining and being all cold, I am craving winter foods.

These are really beautiful sight.
Look at that bicycle and the snow man cartoon, who is going to take a ride in the snow.

With but I thought that the snow melts away on its own when the sun comes up, but I can see you saying they have to be cleared out.
Isn't that alot of work to do.

The weather must be really cold there because of these mass of snow I guess.

Thank you! Snowy scenery is picturesque.

Yeah, the snow does of course melt away at some point but until that happens, until spring comes, more and more snow comes and there are no longer places to bulldoze the snow in the city center. Right now it's in the middle of walk ways and bicycle lanes and people would love to use those lanes too.

And if there's lots of snow piles when the spring comes and when the snow starts to melt, it may cause flooding because everything of course melts at the same time. And yes, getting the snow away when the sky may provide more any day is a constant thing people need to do in the winter.

Fortunately I don't have be the one to plow the snow. And I always hope that every winter there's lots and lots of snow because it's so beautiful and everything is brighter since the sun doesn't stay up during winter days very long. :)
