Mallorca for Train-spotters I / Mallorca pro šotouše I

The north part of Mallorca is secluded by the Sierra de Tramontana mountain range. Yet, there’s one important city with a port on the north coast – Sollér and Port de Sollér. They are both just marvellous, by the way. Nowadays, you can reach them by car or bus. Or you can take a historic electric train that would take you there through 13 tunnels and over 500 metres of elevation. The very first train reached Sollér in 1912 and the current ones aren’t much younger.

Severní část Mallorky je od zbytku ostrova oddělena pohořím Sierra de Tramontana. A přesto je tam jedno důležité městečko s přístavem – Sollér a Port de Sollér. Obojí mimochodem stojí za návštěvu. Pohodlně se tam dostanete autem nebo autobusem. A nebo se můžete projet historickým elektrickým vláčkem, který s vámi překoná asi 500 výškových metrů a 13 tunelů. První vlak přijel do Solléru v roce 1912 a ty, které jsou dnes v provozu, nejsou o moc mladší.

Palma station used to be in the suburbs, now it is in the edge of the city centre. The train has priority and stops the traffic when it passes by crossings and junctions.

Stanice v Palmě bývala na předměstí, ale z toho je dnes okraj centra města. Vlak má přednost na křižovatkách i přechodech pro chodce a pravidelně zastavuje dopravu.

The passenger coaches are decorated in the authentic manner. Most of them are almost one century old. The one I travelled by is from 1929.

Interiér vagónů je pokud možno původní. Většině z nich se blíží sté narozeniny. Ten, kterým jsem jel já, byl z roku 1929.

The ride takes about an hour. You can then continue by a historic tram that goes down the hill to the port.

Cesta trvá asi hodinku a na jejím konci můžete přestoupit na historickou tramvaj, která vás sveze dolů do přístavu.

In Sollér, just like everywhere else in Mallorca, you can run into cats and other animals. This hen was posing patiently in the station when we arrived.

V Solléru, stejně jako kdekoli jinde na Mallorce, je spousta toulavých koček i jiných zvířat. Na stanici třeba trpělivě pózovala tahle slepice.
