The Sound of Summer!

The sound of summer in Japan is born out of this exoskeleton. The cicada is the constant soundtrack of summer piercing the heated air far and wide. At times it’s so constant you don’t even notice it until you do.

One of the worst things is seeing semi ( Japanese for cicada) on its back thinking it’s dead only to give it a little kick and hear it make a clicking chirping sound and fun wild about the place. It’s kinda of a summer game I think many play here. Am I the only one? 😂

On a last note, the exoskeleton is actually cooler than what comes out of it. Don’t you think?

If soccer was invented in Japan, soccer balls would make cicada sounds when hit lol)

Occasionally one will end up "dead" on our balcony floor but will remind us that it's not quite dead yet when after some time laying there it will start buzzing around on the floor, evidently trying but unable to fly. I can remember one time when my wife went out to hang laundry and I heard a scream followed by a door slamming. Seems like she tried moving one of the dead semi with her foot and it started buzzing around, freaking her out.

It really is a part of Japanese summer culture to check if these guys are dead when you conveniently come across one. It's always a 50/50 chance too 😄, they should put I giant one in the next Biohazard game or Tv series.
