Today, for a change, I decided to go back to my roots, to Venezuelan music and specifically to cañonera music. Some time ago I told you the story of A broken guitar neck, a trio and a quartet, there I told you about the way in which a small format group emerged with which we were playing for a while.

The main characteristics is that it was the smallest format that could be used for cañonera music, but musically I set myself an even more complicated challenge: to harmonize the repertoire in the most modern way and with chords of maximum tension, but without losing its essence of danceable music. Of course, the scarce instrumentation used made the task even more difficult and less possible to distinguish. However, I think we did it quite well and we managed to keep people dancing, despite the harmonic sequences that are not traditional in this music.

For some reason, which I can't remember now, at that time I recorded a couple of tracks without the lead vocal. Today I found them and I thought it would be interesting to give them a new use and give it a new interpretation, in which I also added some variations in the final part, on what was the improvisation of bass and soprano saxophone. With that I also try to give a new air to this old joropo by José María Jiménez. The musicians that were part of the project were Leonardo Boccardo on soprano sax, Jorge Ramoncini on bass, Arnaldo Sánchez on drums and I did the arrangements, played the cuatro and was in charge of the vocal part.

Hoy para variar, decidí volver a mis raíces, a la música venezolana y específicamente a la música cañonera. Hace algún tiempo les conté la historia de Una guitarra rota, un trío y un cuarteto, allí les hablaba sobre la manera en que surgió un grupo de formato pequeño con el que estuvimos tocando un tiempo.

Las características principales es que era el formato más pequeño que se podía utilizar para la música cañonera, pero musicalmente yo me planteé un reto aún más complicado: armonizar el repertorio de la manera más moderna y con acordes de máxima tensión, pero sin que perdiera su esencia de música bailable. Por supuesto, la escasa instrumentación usada, hacía la tarea aún más difícil y menos posible de distinguir. Sin embargo creo que lo hicimos bastante bien y logramos que la gente siguiera bailando, a pesar de unas secuencias armónicas nada tradicionales en esta música.

Por alguna razón, que ahora no recuerdo, en ese momento grabé un par de pistas sin la voz solista. Hoy las encontré y pensé que sería interesante darles un nuevo uso y hacerle una nueva interpretación, en la cual agregué también unas variaciones en la parte final, sobre lo que era la improvisación de bajo y saxo soprano. Con eso también busco darle un nuevo aire a este viejo joropo de José María Jiménez. Los músicos que formaban parte del proyecto eran Leonardo Boccardo en el saxo soprano, Jorge Ramoncini en el bajo, Arnaldo Sánchez en la batería y yo hacía los arreglos, tocaba y cuatro y estaba a cargo de la parte vocal
