Krewella: Electronic music with Middle East influences | (ENG) (ESP)
Krewella was born as a project of three people, Yasmin Yousaf, Jahan Yousaf and Rain Man (Kristopher Trindl) in 2007. At the beginning they had strong dubstep influences that marked the time with the Skrillex boom.
In his first album "Play Harder" you could notice brostep and dubstep influences mixed with electro house. They had the collaboration of artists such as Patrick Stump, Travis Baker (drummer of blink-182) and Pegboard Nerds. They achieved success with the song Alive reaching platinum in the U.S.A.
However, over time, Krewella evolved his style, breaking the paradigm of what dubstep was, including genres such as trap, hip-hop and perfectly achieved Middle Eastern influences due to his Pakistani ancestry of which they always make us remember.
From his best works with Middle Eastern influences the song "Good on you" was born from his trips to Pakistan, however we can find works made in Indonesia such as the single "GreenLights".
In his YouTube mixing sessions you can see all this musical amalgam with Indian and Arabic influences.
Krewella nace como un projecto de tres personas, Yasmin Yousaf, Jahan Yousaf y Rain Man (Kristopher Trindl) en el año 2007. Al principio contaban con fuertes influencias dubstep que marcaron la época con el boom de Skrillex.
En su primer álbum “Play Harder” se podían notar influencias brostep y dubstep mezcladas con electro house. Contaron con la colaboración de artistas como Patrick Stump, Travis Baker (baterista de blink-182) y de Pegboard Nerds. Alcanzaron el éxito con el tema Alive logrando platino en U.S.A.
Sin embargo con el tiempo Krewella fue evolucionando su estilo rompiendo el paradigma de lo que era dubstep, incluyendo géneros como trap, hip-hop e influencias de medio oriente perfectamente logradas debido a su ascendencia paquistani de la cual siempre nos hacen recordar.
De sus mejores trabajos con influencias de medio oriente nace el tema “Good on you” de sus viajes a Pakistan, sin embargo podemos encontrar trabajos hechos en Indonesia como lo es el sencillo “GreenLights”.
En sus sesiones por youtube de mezclas se pueden apreciar toda esta amalgama musical con influencias indias y arábigas.
I personally first heard them by chance with their first collaboration with Yellow Claw and VaVa (who is a Chinese hip-hop artist with incredible strength) and was struck by the originality and mix of genres. An impeccable production that gave me the idea that perhaps in the near future I will dedicate myself to producing electronic music after properly studying the software and having the necessary equipment.
Their live performances are full of incredible energy and they are one of the few production companies / DJs who first record with their own voice (both sisters having an excellent range) and perform live with their own voice as they did on the anniversary of their album. zero Live Concert Experience which was made via streaming and released on December 1st.
I had the pleasure of enjoying it, listening to the sisters make excellent and unusual mixes and appreciating their singing power. All songs were excellently executed on a vocal level and the mix repertoire was amazing from Nicki Romero, Yellow Claw, DISKORD to Indian songs like AR Rahman's Jiya Jale.
Personalmente las escuche por primera vez por casualidad con su primera colaboración con Yellow Claw y VaVa (quien es una artista china de hip-hop con una fuerza increíble) y quede impactado por la originalidad y la mezcla de géneros. Una producción impecable que me dio la idea de que quizás en un futuro cercano me dedique a producir música electrónica después de estudiar adecuadamente el software y tener el equipo necesario.
Sus actuaciones en vivo están cargadas de una energía increíble y son de las pocas productoras/DJ que primeramente graban con su propia voz (teniendo ambas hermanas un excelente rango) y hacen en vivos con su propia voz como lo hicieron en el aniversario de su album zero Live Concert Experience el cual fue hecho via streaming y lanzado el primero diciembre.
Tuve el placer de disfrutarlo, de escuchar a las hermanas hacer excelentes mezclas y fuera de lo común y apreciar su poder de canto. Todos los temas fueron excelentemente ejecutados a nivel vocal y el repertorio de mezclas fue asombroso desde Nicki Romero, Yellow Claw, DISKORD hasta temas indios como Jiya Jale de AR Rahman.
His latest album "Zero" shows a more serious work, with more existential lyrics, loaded with a sensitivity not previously reached by previous works. I especially highlight the song "Martyr" both lyrically and in the setting, being at first very atmospheric and exploding with powerful bass drums.
In this album we can find three of Krewella's best singles, "Good on You", "Ghost" and "Greenlights".
In the year 2020 the remixes of most of the songs from this album are released, which in my humble opinion was the best one made by Toneshifterz with the Greenlights theme giving it more strength.
In conclusion, Krewella is a group that stands out for its ability to mix electronic music with Middle Eastern influences in some of its songs in a fresh way. Although it is not something new in the genre, I think that these girls handle it in a natural way, which means that when listening to their music we are faced with a musical modernity endowed with a lot of spirituality and freedom.
Su último álbum “Zero” se nota un trabajo más serio, con letras más existencialistas, cargadas de una sensibilidad no antes alcanzada por anteriores trabajos. Destaco especialmente el tema “Martyr” tanto de manera lirica como en la ambientación siendo al principio muy atmosférico y explotando con unos bombos cargados de fuerza.
En este album podemos encontrar tres de los mejores sencillos de Krewella, “Good on You”, “Ghost” y “Greenlights”.
En el año 2020 se lanzan las remezclas de la mayoría de temas de este album el cual en mi humilde opinión el mejor fue el hecho por Toneshifterz con el tema Greenlights dotándolo de más fuerza.
En conclusión Krewella es un grupo que destaca por su habilidad de mezclar música electrónica con influencias de medio oriente en algunos de sus temas de una manera fresca. Si bien no es algo nada nuevo en el género creo que estas chicas lo manejan de una manera natural lo cual hace que al escuchar su música nos enfrentemos con una modernidad musical dotada de mucha espiritualidad y libertad.
