Update for regular authors

avatar
(Edited)

Since its creation, the HiveBuzz project has aimed to support users' engagement on the Hive platform. With this in mind, we created two badges that reward those who are committed and publish their posts on a regular basis:

The Weekly Author

This badge is awarded to regular authors. Each time you publish a post every day of the week, you will receive this badge.

The Monthly Author

This badge is awarded to very regular authors. Each time you publish a post every day of the month, you will receive this badge.

The number displayed on the badges indicates how many times you have successfully completed these goals.

The ISO and UTC drama

To find out if you are entitled to receive a Weekly Author badge, Hivebuzz uses ISO week dates for weekdays, meaning a week begins on Monday and ends on Sunday!

Furthermore, to validate when you published your post, HiveBuzz uses the time of the blockchain which is UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)!

If you post at the wrong time, i.e. taking into account your local time or way of considering weeks, you may miss both badges and will have to wait till the next Monday or month to be able to earn your coveted badge.

These particularities in the validation rules have led to many users contacting us to ask us why they have not received their badge.

Updates to the Hivebuzz Website

To help authors know if they're still on track to earn their award, we've added progress indicators below these two badges:

They will let you know about how many days you published a post this week or this month.

If the gauge is green, it indicates that you are on your way to earning the badge.
If the gauge is red, it means you missed one or more days of the week or month, or you still haven't posted today.

In the above example (picture taken on Sunday 20th of the month), the user has successfully posted every day of the running week but unfortunately missed to post for 10 days on the month. He will get one more Weekly Author badge, raising its score to 144, but won't get the Monthly Author badge at the end of the month.

We hope this helps and inspire you to post on Hive regularly.

Let's have some fun

We are offering 10 HIVE to the first one who finds out which is the account we took the screenshot from above. If you look at his score, you will notice that he has been a very regular author for 2 consecutive years! But be aware that we tampered with the monthly gauge for our example, so don't use it for validation.

Write your guess in a comment on this post.

  • one guess per account
  • blockchain time to decide between the winners

Stay commited!

Thanks, it was confusing alright. I was using peakd tools statistics and their stats were using my local time and it felt quite cumbersome. And adding the red and green bars will clear away uncertainty.

Great idea! Loving it! At first I thought the weekly one is for those who post once every week and I was like yay! This one is for me! But then, oh wait.. haha

He he, you already got 8 of the weekly one. Tho, you will have to be a bit more constant to grab the monthly one 😅

Indeed haha. The thing is that I post every 6 days so maybe I'll break my score once in a while having two posts per week? Lol, random thoughts haha

Isn't it more useful to start over when you missed a post for the monthly badge? Not all months are 31days.

This is how things are, but you will have to wait for next month to start over.
Don't worry about the number of days in a month, Hivebuzz adapts its computation and gauge automatically.

Ah cool thanks. I tried twice to get the weekly badge but failed both times so I gave up lol

Hahah thanks, I’ll try it out if I can find content to put together for 7 days.

That's nice. I've managed to clock up a few of each badge. Adds a little fun to the Hive experience.

Well I know who the example is not based on Me. Thanks for that link to the ISO week information, I actually found it pretty interesting. I miss the days when it was either get up for school time as a kid or its get up early its the weekend for a kid. Time had gotten so convoluted as I grew-up.

Although I'm not big on badges and such, it amazes me how much you all do to keep all this up for all of us!

Thank you so much! A very interesting idea! We will try to fly over flowers from dawn to dawn!) I really want to be at least in something in this life - a winner. Thanks again to the organizers and initiators of the new!

A great explanation here and hope that I have not missed any due to the UTC timing, but I think that it's about 2 hours behind our South African time. SAST, or UTC +2 hours.
So, I should be okay, as I am a regular 7 posts per week guy.
Blessings!

Keeping track of the UTC time instead of local time get's a bit tricky sometimes, but I guess it is what it is for now.

Unfortunately, we can't keep track of the user's local time because the blockchain doesn't provide such information, hence why we use UTC.

A UTC clock in in a corner of the UIs would be a helpful tool for everyone to keep 'Hive time', but that would be the various dev teams their department

I post everyday, often more than once, but I don't usually see the monthly notification

Damn, you're absolutely right @fredkese!
We checked your notifications and couldn't find the "monthly" ones.
A deep analysis of our code allowed us to find a nasty bug that is now fixed.
So thank you for indirectly helping to squash it.

We disabled Ones are at a severe disadvantage.  It can take Me over a week to create a post, if it's a long one or has a new video I created.  Most of My posts contain a vid...  So I will not be earning these, I will wager.

Dear @amaterasusolar, it is an important issue you are raising here.

Indeed, we often forget the difficulties that disabled people can encounter and I am glad you reminded us.
I don't know how exactly yet, but I created a task in my todo list in order to add something special for you as part of the HiveBuzz project. I hope I can tackle it very soon.

Thank you for your feedback. 🙏

I have no idea which account you took this screenshot from. I have joined only yesterday and trying to understand how the site works. Thanks. I am reading your post and knowing a little from it too!

Hola soy nueva en Hive pero sin embargo he estado muy activa. Donde puedo verificar si estoy optando por la insignia de autor semanal?
