Hunting For The Qs

avatar

The #alphabethunt for words starting with a Q.

In the English Language, most words starting with Q, the Q is followed by a U. This follows true in my selection of Qs.

  • Quaker and Quick Oats

I thought finding words and photos for this hunt was going to be difficult but I was making date squares and there on the package of oats, used for the recipe, where two Q words - Quaker and Quick.

  • Quick

Quick can mean doing something done swiftly such as cooking the oats or it can mean a fast movement.

Something that moves quick is the hummingbird. They move so fast the wings are almost invisible.

  • Quilt Rack

I bought the Quilt from a friend and the rack was a wedding present. The rack came in a box and had to be assembled by Hubby. I stained it a dark walnut color.

It was in the box for a couple years before we decided it was time to have a look and assemble the quilt rack. It was easy to put together.

At first I was a bit disappointed with getting a gift that had to be put together but I appreciate it now that it is in a finished form.

Coincidently, I think the pattern on the quilt is called Wedding or Wedding Ring.

  • Quaint

Something being Quaint is usually old-fashioned but charming.

The way the Amish live is Quaint according to today’s standards. Whenever I see them, they always have their heads covered; the women with a bonnet; men with a wide brim straw hat. Their clothing is conservative, in either black or blue colors and they still use horse and buggy for transportation.

An Amish lady, heading home in horse drawn buggy, after spending time shopping in Montague. I love seeing this and it takes me back to days on the farm when horses were used daily. Now, on most farms, tractors have taken over the work done by the horse.

  • Quack

Quack is the sound made by a duck. It can also mean a fraudulent person or trickster.

These ducks were quacking as they headed for shore to hid in the reeds as I tried to take their photo.

  • Quiz

There’s all kinds of Quizzes such as quiz shows, quiz games and puzzles. It’s a game in which you test your knowledge. Hubby likes doing a crossword quiz.

Wonderful selection my dear ! This Q that we feared a bit without knowing it...we must do it justice, it is really an interesting letter for this game to illustrate ! 😊
the Amish hitch in your Prince Edward Island reminds me of the time of the novel by Anne of the green gables .... I saw it again with pleasure on TV recently ...😍
the hummingbird is a so good illustration of the word Qick, indeed 😉

Thanks Barbara, I’m happy you liked my choices. Q is a letter that needs respect and I think we are all up for the task. 😊

You are so right about the Amish reminding us of the time of Anne of Green Gables as they would have used the same for transportation. I do love watching the series too.❤️

Oh, you are all so quick with your Q posts - I have so much to do commenting on all that I have no time to think of my own #AlphabetHunt post 😉 lol

These are great words, Jo, I said we'd have to be creative when we hunt the Q - you have been very creative and you did a very good job 👍😃

I love the quick Hummingbird, of course, and the word quaint suits perfectly to the Amish in my eyes.

Thanks dear Johann for always your kind comments. It means a lot. I’m happy you like the quick and quaint ones. 😊

I had my qs post done up early and left in a draft. I lucked into some Q words.

I don’t know how I would have made out if English wasn’t my first language..heck I might as well say it’s the only language I can understand.

I hope Frigg smiles on you tomorrow Johann.🤗

Good morning Jo,
it makes always fun 😊

I have found a few words which might work for me, including the Queen, but I have already seen the solution I had thought of in another post, so I might have to change 😉

My English has become a lot better in the past months, at least the writing 😉 But I wished I hadn't been so lazy and learned more languages than only English.

Frigg's day started with a smiling sun and I hope she keeps smiling for me and for you, dear Jo ☀️🤗

I’m glad you are finding Q words Johann. It’s not always easy to find a photo to match.

Your English writing is fantastic. i forget sometimes that some words may be strange to you. Another thing is I should try not to use slang words when I communicate with you.

it would be nice to know different languages. I did take some french in school but without using it I have lost it.

Frigg’s day was lovely here dear Johann and I’m glad she was in a good mood in both our places. 😉

Well, I have 6 words, but only one photo yet which needs a lot of work because the situation where I took it wasn't as expected 😉
I have ideas for the other 5 words, but I'm not sure if they will work and if I can make a valid post this time.

But all in all it's just a fun game 😉

If I don't understand a word or phrase I google it or I just ask.
When I read it a few times I will remember it.

Yes, without using a language you will forget over time. I started to learn Italian for a few months when I was at school, but I didn't like it. I still can count to 10 though 😉

Let's hope that the rest of the weekend is as nice as Frigg's day 🌞

Bonjour Johann. 🙂 I thought I could count to ten in French but only got to five just now. ( Un, deux, trois...)🤫

You have lots of time left for the Q post. If stuck, you could always source photos from google or Pixabay but, of course, you want your own.

It is predicted there are more nice days ahead.

Au revoir for now and wishing you have the same nice climate dear Johann 🤗

Bonjour Jo,

I thought you Canadians all speak French 😉

You know: only photos I took myself - I could use my own photos from Pixabay though 😉 but there are only a few I have uploaded years ago.

Today has become very nice, and after this reply I'm going for a short ride, because they say it will rain tomorrow - I'll work on my Q post then ;)

Wish you a nice day, dear Jo 🤗

Bonsoir Johann. 😊 The spell check keeps changing my French words to something different.in English😀

If you want a job with the government it is required now to be bilingual in positions serving the public. Not so much when I was growing up. Although there was a movement then and I did take some French in High School which has sadly escaped me. 😀

English is spoken everywhere unless you travel to Quebec and then a bit of French is useful.

Now French is taught in earlier grades and some like, my nephew, went to a French Immersion school. It is for students where French is not their first language. All the subjects are in French.

Today has been beautiful and more such days ahead. I hope you had a nice ride dear Johann and tomorrow a good day even to hunt down the Qs.🤗

Good morning Jo 😊

That's why I have changed my keyboard on the phone to English, because I would have to correct the spell check all the time 😉

If you don't need a language often you certainly forget, but the words are still stored and they'll come slowly back after a while talking and listening to that language.

I have my Q words and I have the photos which I don't like yet. I think I have seen all words in other posts, apart from one, which you gave me and which certainly no one should have 😆

I'm way behind replying and hope I have enough time later to finalize the Q post.

My Sunday began with a nice sunrise at the reservoir, but now it's 1 pm and it is going to rain soon, just as the weather forecast said.

I don't mind the rain though, because it gives me time to sit at the computer 😁

Have a beautiful Sunday dear Jo 🤗🌞

An Amish lady, heading home in horse drawn buggy, after spending time shopping in Montague

Amazing and pretty unique as well, do they still use it ?

Also you did it very smoothly, and made Q look so easy. How! :D

Nice one! @redheadpei

Thanks @razeiv. Yes they still use the horse and buggy. I see them in town or on the highway almost everyday. That picture I took of the Amish lady driving the horse and buggy was taken about a month ago.

You will be alright finding words starting with Q. Just make your mind Quiet and some words will come to you.

Have a lovely Friday!😊

Got the letter "Q" all wrapped up in no time at all, well done Jo. Horse and buggy must be quaint to see, walking straight out of a time capsule feel.

Plenty quacking ducks on your ponds I can image readying themselves to be off soon.

Thanks Joan @joanstewart😊. Yes it always seems like I’m living in another era when I see the Amish in their dress and driving the horse and buggy along the highway.

Soon a lot of birds will head South. Sometimes the geese stay as long as there is a food supply.

Have a wonderful weekend ❤️.

Seeing amazing things from yesteryear always fun to watch, we don't seem many donkey drawn carts, also get that step back in time feeling when one does.

Birds are amazing with the pattern of movement to suit themselves, wish we could do similar LOL.

Most welcome Jo and nothing at all wrong with being a little silly. I love your tongue twister and, no, I could not say it 3x fast! Tongue twisters were a big thing growing up. I wonder if children nowadays even know what one is..lol. 😁

I haven’t hear any tongue twisters lately. As kids ‘we used to try and sat 3 Xs,

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.”

I love your alphabet hunt! Q would have been a challenge. I have Mennonites here, the Amish are about three hours North, where my dad was born. I loved going there when I was growing up. They were neighbors of his relatives.

I was thinking about you the other day and, my bad, I have gotten so out of touch with everyone here, seems like it should be less busy here with us still being guided by the corona rules, yet, my days are never my own anymore.

I hope you are doing well and I love to wander over and catch a piece of your world. Have a great weekend and hope life is spinning you some joy.

Thanks dear Denise. I always love hearing from you.❤️ Sorry work is busy but you always seem to make time for others.

Quite a few Amish have moved here from Ontario and bought rundown farms and brought them back to live.

Live is about the same here on the Island even with the pandemic still threatening the world. Masts are required if you go into the superstore and social distancing suggested.I hope you and yours are keeping well.

Take extra care and have a lovely Sunday.😊

Wit is definitely essential in this #AlphabetHunt on the letter "Q"

Quack also occurred to me, but how he was photographed ... You did it nicely 😁
My favorite is quaint, a Amish woman coming back from shopping. I forgot that Amish exist ...
It's kind of for my stories ..
Great hunt @readheadpei 😊
