Kantaji The Historical Temple in Dinajpur, Bangladesh.

"Kantji Mandir" is located at Dinajpur district of Rangpur division in the Northern side of Bangladesh. This temple is a great example of great historical architechral art of Bangladesh. The temple was founded by "King Pran Nath" in that time. "Rani Rukhmani" was the name of queen of the King Pran Nath.

The king was started the construction of the temple in 1704 and he died before completing the whole construction of the temple. To accomplished King's last desire before death, the Queen Rukhmani instructed their adopted son Ramnath Roy to complete the unfinished construction of the temple. In 1752, Ramnath Roy was completed the construction of the temple. It took about 48 years to built-up the overall Temple.

The Ramayan (A Book of Hindu Religious), the Mahabharat (A Book of Hindu Religious) and various mythological histories have been perfectly painted throughout the walls of the temple. At the time of construction of the temple, there were nine set of minarate comparely with the height of three-storied building.

The height of the temple was about 70 feet. But when there was an earthquake in 1897, some peaks was broken as a result at present the height of this temple is about 50 feet. The present age of the Kantaji temple approximately is about 317 years.

The King originally build this temple to show homage to Lord Krishna. Therefore, every year in the month of November (Bengali month of Kartik) on the full moon, worship is done here and fairs are also held. The duration of the worship-festival about 45 days every year. Religious ceremonies are held during the puja and religious books, various types of furniture and equipment for the puja are available here. Beautiful atmosphere are created at the time of the festival. The Worship-festival is celebrating by the governing body of the temple since, in a very peaceful way.

I use to visit Kantaji Temple with my family members every year for participating in the worship as well enjoying the fair. When I was a kid, I used to eat a lot of traditional chips in that fair and was loving it. Apart from the puja festival, people come from far and wide to visit the Kantaji temple. Kantji Temple is also known as Kantnagar.
