THE DIFFICULTIES THAT COME WITH ONBOARDING ON HIVE

20211207_115329_0000.png
source

Since coming back to hive, I have unintentionally tried to onboard a lot of individuals and I use the word unintentionally because most of the people that I have spoken about hive to wasn't planned.

You see, the reason why I spoke to these people about it is that I recently quit my job and I was questioned a lot about what gave me the push to do that and I would usually just say that "the decision was easier to make because I had hive to fall back on while I am waiting" and the questions would come forth after that.

After a series of questions and me taking the time to answer, I immediately get a response that is pretty much expected which is "this seems hard" and it is sometimes annoying because most of these people that say this are usually unemployed, job hunting, or earn less than a 100 dollars doing very difficult jobs so I would normally question why it looks so hard to them.

Usually, since I am not one to force people to get on something, I would just end up telling them that if they ever need my help, I would be willing which moves to the next steps of them actually coming back for my help after a while.

The few that come back end up creating an account on hive, reading content for a few days, not bothering to post, and end up making excuses which ends up with them abandoning their accounts and even those that make posts are inconsistent, and when they don't see immediate gratification they give up which is understandable because I was there once and it is easier to quit than work.

It is still a bit frustrating when you take your time, energy, and resources to onboard people and they don't take it as seriously as they should and I realized that the main problem is because most people see hive as a hobby or a means to make quick money and for me, I see it as a job that I have to constantly work on to grow in.

IT IS EASY TO MAKE EXCUSES

A big difficultly with onboarding is the excuses that are made, I recently onboarded someone who has been making a lot of excuses, and even though the said person is my family, I feel like kicking them, I won't but I feel like.

I think it is easy to make excuses and it is easy to say I don't know how to write but the good thing about hive is that there are so many avenues to use to grow and most excuses aren't valid.

HIVE NEEDS EFFORT

A lot of people might not be willing to hear this but hive needs effort and if you want to be consistent daily welp, that takes a lot of brainpower and if you want to engage daily, it also takes energy and this shouldn't be a problem because nothing in life comes easy.

IN THE END,

I have come to understand that hive isn't for everyone and it would most likely be a 1 in a 100 situation so even though I would still rave about hive and speak to people about it, I am choosing to focus on onboarding only people who I consider as serious-minded and can stay for the long run.

THANK YOU FOR OPENING THIS BOX OF PASSION

Well said, it isn't for everyone. I don't bother these days. I leave people on read now when they ask me for the one-millionth time about hive. I can't keep letting them waste my time and effort.

😂😂😂 Me I select people I've studied based on character and work ethic. Although I've been wrong before

That was my criteria too but even then all I got were excuses after a few posts.

They'll eventually come back with regret when you've become really big. That's if they haven't misplaced their keys.

I need to start doing that because it is so annoying, I had someone stalk me, come to my house and ask me to teach him and I did, and immediately after excuses came bursting out, like why put me through this stress.

I wasn't forced to be on hive so I don't see why I need to force others. If one doesn't see the value after all my effort and cajoling, then maybe it's not just for you. I will sleep well at night.

exactly. exactly exactly exactly.

I just said the same thing to her.

Our time is our most precious asset. If we don't value our time - they will not either.

Give it only to those who are worthy! Offer help, step back, and let people figure it out! They are adults - lets treat them like adults!

I honestly got tired at a point and just halted my onboarding plans.

But then When I see one of them really giving much and following through, I try to check up on others and cycles goes again..lol.

It's very difficult onboarding new users. There's this guy I onboarded and foolish me instead of delegating hp to him, went to buy a 3-month hp delegation from blocktrades for him.

Well, after I scolded him for not listening to me concerning how his intro post should be ( he didn't even say anything about himself, it was like a Facebook post), he deleted it and he hasn't come online ever since.

Have some !PIZZA

😆 this made me laugh, I think a lot of people have gotten used to writing on Facebook that they forget that you shouldn't write like that in real life.

Meanwhile, please tell me you got your HP back?

I think a lot of people have gotten used to writing on Facebook that they forget that you shouldn't write like that in real life.

Yes oo. I tried explaining to him, he was just saying yes, but it was obvious he wasn't listening. The fact he hasn't even opened hive since then only confirms my point. I won't force him, if he chooses to come back he will, if he doesn't, that's his business.

Meanwhile, please tell me you got your HP back?

I can't get it oo, as long as I've bought it for him, it'll remain there till the 3 months is over. Luckily it was just 2 hive I spent (then it was 2 dollars, but now it's almost 5 dollars). O well, I've learnt my lesson

gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is painful to read!

well - lesson learned

no more purchasing delegations until someone has proven themselves. LOL

we want to try to prove something - and Hive has nothing to prove. you know?
It has proven itself to us. Let us just live it out and let others prove to US that they want to learn.

THEN we can extend ourselves.

(thats my opinion) lol

Sometimes we're moved by the life situations of the individual that we sometimes fail to assess the person's character to see if they'll endure to the end. Sometimes too we might be wrong, the ones we expect to be resilient enough to continue going, na them go shock us pass.

So don't fret yourself too much, onboarding comes with a lot of responsibility and for someone who's still growing those responsibilities might be too much to handle.

I had a list of people I wanted to onboard based on what I thought they could offer but I decided to cut down the list to a little number, I decided to choose people I was very close with so that with time we'll be able to encourage each other every step of the way.

Keep up the good work my dear. .. you'll get to where you want to soon.❤️

It isn't because of the responsibility, it's the people, I can't put energy in something that isn't worth it, and even if you say you want to choose close friends and all, it might still end up with the same outcome.

Yeah I get what you mean, you can take a horse to the stream but you can't force it to drink water. Me choosing close friends doesn't mean it'll work out. But then it be something to give a try, if they end up being unserious, that's their problem, when the time comes they'll start wishing they took your advice

Most people want an instant result and when they end up not getting this, they abandon their account. This is the problem am also having. And sometimes, it just seems like a waste of time on my part because after taking my time to put them through, they end up not staying. I believe these set of persons font really know what they want.

Like you said in your conclusion, hive isn't meant for everybody... It's only for the determined and dedicated souls.

yes - but then people found you and helped you hahahaha

if you stayed on your own for very long - it would have been very discouraging. I've seen it happen to good writers over and over again.

They just can't find anyplace to be heard - and no one supports them. and they feel so alone.

But when you find someone to come alongside you - it opens the world to you!!!

but then people found you and helped you hahahaha

This is really why I help people.

First when they ask me if I have to bring referrals to be successful.. I feel pity for them.

I try to explain to them, make videos, recorded video calls so subsequently they can see it and pick up where they missed out.

I even sent newbie post from here to them.. I doubt they ever read it tho.

I m not sure it was that hard for me tho, but I really celebrate who ever gets to the point of writing an intro post, a good one at that and posting it successfully. 😂😂

I ve seen a few of them. And its someone easier to mentor from that point on.

Two things are involved, having knowledge about what you are about to go into and being passionate about it.
If these things are absent, there is no way anyone would thrive on the hive.
Consistency and persistence follow.

There are people who do this now!!!
They've been here for years, and work non-stop! hehehehe but they absolutely make that much!

It's all about bringing people something they love - connecting with them - building your network - investing in others - growing together - supporting the platforms you're on - and working working working while enjoying enjoying enjoying!

I love going through our #dreemer tag and supporting people who are connecting together there! I do it often - and not just me , but 2 others who upvote through DreemPort! :)

it's all about building the tribe that you want in the future! :) I know you can grow - I've seen what you do when you're committed - and I love your passion.

But make sure you realize it takes TIME. look at the LONG journey ahead - and ask yourself if you truly have the time for it

if so?? GET ON IT :)

You need to read a post by @starstrings01 ....
It talked about this and was BRILLIANT. I went ga-ga for it hehehehe

Let me find it and drop it here for you :)

I think it will encourage you - and also... be WISE in whom you try to onboard.
If you choose the wrong people you will be wasting a lot of precious time.

I have seen SO MANY who have all the tools and talents to win on Hive - simply squander it with pitiful excuses.

Focus on YOU.

Your journey will be the BIGGEST testimony and draw for people to ask YOU how they can do what you do. You see?

there is no need to "sell" hive to others. You spend the time pouring into YOUR blog and YOUR passion, and in time - people will come to you to ask. And I often will tell people FIRST OFF "this is hard, and it takes time - if you want me to explain, I will. But I'm telling you first - it is not easy money. It is a passion that requires commitment and endurance."

see? then you swish away the ones who don't have the heart for it. Your time is too precious. I hope you hear me say that. YOUR TIME is too precious to waste, Ophelia. Believe that and give it ONLY where it is worthwhile.

If you don't value your time more - why should they?

I hope you hear and apply that - because it will change your life. It changed mine :)

love you - and here is that post!!! I hope you love it!

Thank you for this, I guess I need to value my time more.

The crazy thing is that these people come questioning and I tell them all these but they just feel like I am trying to chase them away from earning the way I do and when I do explain they run away.

From now I am not even bothering to try to teach or bring anyone on because it does take a lot of time and energy to do so.

0

Tell them if they really want to know, come back and ask again :)
(and then do it again hahahaha)
the ones who really come back - do this...

Instead of YOU taking the responsibility to teach them - show them the way to the teachers who are already here and love to do it! (there are many!!! DM me for the ones who are very successful at it)

then point them to newbie initiative - and have them go through that training... and then just follow up with them and support their work WHEN they do it.

don't put that stress on yourself - you have other gifts that you need to use according to your ability.

I wish a lot of people could see this post too. Most people are so focused on helping others that they forget that they're still taking shaky steps. It's hard for real, and it takes a lot of effort and guidance to keep someone encouraged enough to be here.

I totally get what you are talking about here.

There are normally three big hurdles we face when talking to people about what we are doing here. Firstly is the fact that people will appear to be showing interest because just by listening to what you say and looking at it for the first time, it looks like "easy money".

But this also brings us to the second and third problems. People are looking for "easy money" because they don't really want to work... And thirdly, because they cannot see overnight results, they do not take it seriously...basically because they didn't really pay attention from the beginning and now don't fully understand this.

But this makes the third problem a simple, but a huge one. You have to take this seriously, otherwise, you will never make it big...and this goes for anything you do.

The question you have to ask yourself is this... "if you don't take this seriously and treat it as a business, why would anybody else?"

I like your attitude. You obviously take it seriously and treat as a job... as a business. And I believe that is why you will make a success of it.

Just remember, you can show others the way, but you cannot make them follow it. So keep doing what you are doing. You never know who that one person is going to be who can see it the way you see it. As far as the rest are concerned...you have done your part. The decision is now their's to make and you have no control over that.

I got here via @dreemport.

Exactly, it is the saying "you can take a horse to the river but you can't force it to drink", it's just annoying to me because this same people would see you in the future and feel like you didn't help them or something.

it's just annoying to me because this same people would see you in the future and feel like you didn't help them or something.

That is so true. But do not allow that to get you down.

You have made your decision now to do the work. And you acted on it. If they see you in the future and start playing the "blame-game" or feel sorry for themselves, you presented them with exactly the opportunity that you had... What was their decision? What have they done?

We all have choices and decisions to make. And so does each of us need to take responsibility for our own choices and decisions.

If you had the opportunity and didn't bother to share it with them, it might have been a different story. But you did share.

So, do not allow such people to make you feel guilty or play on your emotions.

Exactly, you mentioned it all.. hive is not for everybody because not everybody has what it takes to be here.

I am highly selective with who I onboard. If I don't see any form of creativity in the person, I may not speak the word of hive at all because I have onboarded so many and gathered a lot of experience with the kind of people to onboard and how they may react.

Also, @dreemsteem is right, focus on yourself right now and don't onboard people if you cannot cater for them. Hive is hard but with you, it would make it easier for them like it is for many of the people I bring.

Take care, btw you would soon see me in physical to propose don't worry 😉..

Yeah, this is true, I didn't even try onboarding these people, they just ask questions and tell you to help them but after all the stress they aren't serious.

These days I am not even bothering at all because I need to cater for myself first.

I am waiting for the proposal, I have patience.

0

that's exactly right - HIGHLY SELECTIVE. we have to be!

not only for them - but for us - and for the platform.

We need to have people here who want to grow, and want the PLATFORM to grow!

and propose???

Hello @khaleesii! I can sympathize with you because I know how hard it is to teach someone from scratch. Writing or blogging needs patience specially if you do not have the experience. And I'm forever grateful to the one who introduce me to Hive. She was so patient with me and she always encourages me to go on. I know how busy she is because she is a mother to a daughter but she still finds time for my questions.
And you are correct if a person does not want to learn then there are many excuses, but if the person is interested to learn then nothing is impossible.
More power to you!
