Loch Lomond Classic Scotch

avatar

I wrote previously about getting some whisky for my birthday and this is the other one. It is from Loch Lomond Whiskies. This is their Classic single malt and may be one of their cheaper options.

Bottle

As the bottle says this distillery has been around for over 200 years, so they should know their stuff. I do like that each company has their own bottle designs. It is tempting to collect them, but they would just collect dust and it is the contents I am actually interested in.

Label

I am drinking it straight tonight to get the full effect. It is quite smooth and almost chewy. I see people saying it is smoky, but I am not getting too much of that. There is a little spice and maybe some toffee. I am just not very good at describing tastes. I will just say that I find it a very pleasant drink. It may lack the subtleties of more refined malts, but I could happily drink more. I will not have too much as I need to work tomorrow.

I think this is my first encounter with this whisky and it has been a good one.

Cheers.

That's just how it feels to me :) It has a bit of body to it.

I'll have to see whether I can acquire that locally. Unfortunately, there's a state liquor monopoly which limits options.

Maybe post in the community about what is available. We can't expect to have everything locally.

I don't drink hard liquor very often, much less visit the liquor store. Perhaps I'll see what there is to see eventually and post about it.

If it's chewy you can't go wrong!

Nice bottle, however, I am not a fan of single malts. I know it's more "classy" but in my opinion many blends have much better taste 🙂

Cheers!

Better or just different? We each have our preferences. I will drink blends too. I'm still learning about the various flavours.

Yeah, you are right, I should probably say, different taste that I prefer 🙂

Very interesting. I think it looks a bit darker than a lot of the scotches that I have tried in the past. I am guessing the American oak cask finish probably has something to do with that. That is an impressive resume if they have been around that long!

A lot of the distilleries go back a long way. I need to visit some next time I am up there.

Especially over there I would imagine! 200 years really isn't too much for you folks. Quite a while for us here in the US!

I've lived in houses nearly as old as your country :) Mind you, the Americas were populated long before that.

If you look at the oldest companies they go back a lot further. Many seem to be in Japan.

I have been wanting to get my hands on some Japanese whiskey for a while now but I haven't had the chance to try any yet.

Better ask Bill about it.

Not sure if I've had Japanese. Don't think I did when I was in Tokyo. Mostly had beer there.

Never had this one.. I'll be looking for it now. I know sometimes people say they taste this or that, but for me I have to sip and close my eyes, relax and contemplate it for a while. Hopefully not falling a sleep before I recognize those notes! lol. Like the bottle and art design. Label pushed all the way to the bottom.. I like that too.
