[Now Reading] Ransom Riggs - Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Published in 2011, this book by Ransom Riggs started an avalanche visible in a series of books featuring the adventures of Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children.

The books and the fame surrounding them even sprouted a movie in 2016, directed by Tim Burton. You may say that the content deserves this director. I didn't watch it - yet. I'll decide whether it is worth watching it after reading the first book in the series.

Intentionally, I didn't do any deep research. All that I know is that the books are famous in a way, that the storyline is based on old photos of peculiar children which tickled the imagination of Ransom Riggs strong enough to start writing, that the tales are weird as are weird the children that live through them.

The books are labeled as contemporary fantasy and young adult literature yet I don't care. A good read is a good read anyway the critics label it. No, I didn't check at Goodreads website either. I don't like to be influenced by the thoughts of other readers. We all project our own lives and our experience in our interpretation.

As you can see from the cover photo I borrowed the first three books in Slovenian translation from the local library. In pages of text, this spells out 348, 381, and 468 pages. Almost 1,200 pages in total. A long read. It should be very interesting otherwise ...

I read this one when I was doing vipassana meditation two years ago. It was eerie especially that I read the book under a candle light. To this day it still haunts me- that definitely is a peculiar book. It's also interesting that the story is based on vintage photography that the author found.

Hey, thanks for your thoughts and impressions. Sounds intriguing, I started yesterday late and came to the point when Jakob and his father arrived on the island.
