Shadows from the steps of the Hegeler Carus mansion
(Edited)
Great shadows everywhere when you live in a house like this!
The Hegeler Carus mansion was completed in 1876 in La Salle, Illinois for Edward and Camilla Hegeler and their large family.
The prominent Chicago architect, William W. Boyington was best known for his design of the Chicago Water Tower, one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.
August Fielder, of Marshall Fields fame, designed the interior of the house.
Hegeler made his fortune in the zinc smelting business, and his son-in-law, German scholar, Dr. Paul Carus married the Hegeler's daughter Mary in 1888 and wrote 75 books and 1,500 articles in his lifetime and is credited with introducing Buddhism to the western world through his text The Gospel of Buddha According to Old Records

.That is absolutely phenomenal architecture and would be an amazing residence to live in if it wasn't such a historic property.
I can just imagine what the rest of the property looks like
It is closed/by appointment only because of Covid. I added a link to the post that has info about the grounds and the interior.
Right on and even driving past that house it is absolutely gorgeous.
I hope they can open up soon and more people can get to check them out
I would love to tour the house!

Do let me know what you think about it! Or better yet, do a post and link it to mine!
WOW, it's absolutely an architectural find! I wonder if it has a basement!
I went looking for info and it not only has a basement that houses a gymnasium and wine cellar, but a subbasement where the boiler to heat the house is located.
So.. it has 3 floors above the stairs, and 3 floors down! WOW.
The home here ... there are no basements! 🥰🌺🤙

@melinda010100
An amazing and beautiful Mansion this truly is!!
The big stairs are absolutely wonderful and most grand. Fantastic shadow photo 🤗 !
Thanks, @annephilbrick I can't imagine how many servants it took to keep a household that size functioning. I read that they had day help, but no live in staff and people continued working for them for years because they provided so many benefits to their employees.
