Start of Youth Week at our local Church (Eng/Esp)

Hello friends of Hive and the wonderful Daily Blog community. I hope you have a brilliant start to the week and may God always bless you. This week in particular is a very special one for me – and not just for me, but for all the young people in our local church – because from Sunday to Sunday we’ll be celebrating our much-anticipated Youth Week.

Hola amigos y amigas de Hive y de la hermosa comunidad Daily Blog. Les deseo que tengan un excelente inicio de semana y que Dios los bendiga siempre. Está semana en particular para mí es una semana muy especial, y no solamente para mí si no para todos los jóvenes de nuestra iglesia local, porque de domingo a domingo estaremos celebrando nuestra añorada Semana de Jóvenes.

Youth Week is a time when the church’s youth group takes charge of leading all the services. It is therefore a more dynamic week than usual, brimming with all the enthusiasm and energy that young people typically exude. Although we young people will be leading all the services, this does not mean that all church members, of any age, are not invited to participate. Far from it—it is an opportunity to invite new people who do not yet know Jesus.

La Semana de Jóvenes es un tiempo donde el grupo de jóvenes de la iglesia se encarga de estar al frente de todos los servicios. Por tanto es una semana más dinámica de lo normal, cargada de todo el entusiasmo y energía que desbordan normalmente los jóvenes. Aunque los jóvenes estaremos dirigiendo todos los servicios, no significa que no estén invitados a participar todos los miembros de la iglesia, de cualquier edad. Mucho más que eso, es una oportunidad para invitar a personas nuevas que no conocen aún a Jesús.

The first thing we did today, Sunday, was to decorate the church with colourful balloons, to bring a little more joy and a youthful spirit to our congregation. It’s a little taste of what’s to come throughout the week. This week’s theme is: ‘Remnant’. It means that, as children of God, we are called to remain faithful and steadfast in the face of a generation that does not know God. More than that, we are called to proclaim the virtues of the One who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light, so that those who do not yet know God may draw near to Him.

Lo primero que hicimos hoy domingo, fue decorar el templo con globos de colores, para impregnar un poco de mayor alegría y del espíritu juvenil a nuestra iglesia. Cómo una pequeña pista de lo que está por venir durante toda la semana. El lema de esta semana es: "Remanente". Quiere decir que como hijos de Dios, estamos llamados a permanecer fieles y firmes ante una generación que no conoce a Dios. Más que eso, somos llamados a anunciar las virtudes de aquel que nos llamó de las tinieblas a su luz admirable, para que aquellos que aún no conocen a Dios, puedan acercarse a Él.

Today, my husband and I were welcoming people at church and announcing to everyone that our Youth Week had officially begun. The teenagers put on a lovely little skit; we were all moved by it. We sang lots of lively, catchy hymns, and we prayed for the Cuban youth and for our community.

Hoy mi esposo y yo estuvimos dando la bienvenida en la iglesia y anunciando a todos que ya comenzaba oficialmente nuestra Semana de Jóvenes. Los adolescentes hicieron una pequeña obrita muy hermosa, todos quedamos emocionados al verla. Cantamos muchas alabanzas muy movidas y pegajosas, y estuvimos orando por la juventud cubana y por nuestra comunidad.

We had a guest preacher, who is a member of another neighbouring church. She moved us deeply with her message and her testimony. It was a great blessing to hear her speak. May God help us to put into practice everything we heard. At the end of the service, we gathered to form teams for the Bible quiz; it was a really enjoyable time, with competitions, and we organised the upcoming challenges and events we’ll be taking part in over the course of the week.

Tuvimos una predicadora invitada, que es miembro de otra iglesia vecina. Nos impactó con su mensaje y su testimonio. Fue una gran bendición escucharla. Dios nos ayude a poner en práctica todo lo que pudimos escuchar. Al finalizar el culto nos reunimos para formar los equipos de la competencia bíblica, fue un tiempo muy divertido donde también hubo competencias y coordinamos los siguientes retos y eventos que tendremos al transcurrir la semana.

On leaving the church, we went to deliver some shoes we were selling, and the customer loved them. Later, we did some shopping for items we needed for the home and arrived home very tired. Especially me, because I was wearing high heels and, as I don’t usually wear them, it was very uncomfortable for me.

Al salir de la iglesia fuimos a entregar unos zapatos que estábamos vendiendo y a la cliente les encantaron. Más tarde hicimos algunas compras de artículos que necesitábamos para el hogar y llegamos a casa muy cansados. Sobre todo yo, porque fui en tacones y como no suelo usarlos fue muy incómodo para mí.

As quickly as possible, I served the meal, set the table, and we began to have lunch because we were both absolutely starving. What I liked most about the meal were some beans that my mother-in-law shared with us; they were exquisite – a real treat. Later on, my husband and I were finalising the details for all the lovely things that are about to happen during this Youth Week. En el mejor tiempo posible serví la comida y puse la mesa y comenzamos a almorzar porque ambos teníamos muchísima hambre. Lo que más me gustó de la comida fueron unos frijoles que nos compartió mi suegra, que estaban exquisitos, una delicia. Más tarde estuvimos mi esposo y yo, ultimando detalles para los preparativos de todas las cosas lindas que están por suceder en esta Semana de Jóvenes.
