The art of writing fugues (Friedrich WIlhelm Marpurg, Fuga sopra Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr)

Of Marpurg's didactical writings, the Abhandlung von der Fuge (1753–4) is a authoritative discussion of fugal practice in late Baroque music. Marpurg's descriptions of small- and large-scale contrapuntal and fugal procedures, based largely on Bach's works, are forerunners of modern textbook descriptions of the classical fugue. It is no surprise therefore that Marpurg made heavily use of the form of fugue in his own compositions.

One of Marpurg's choral based fugues is the Fuga sopra "Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr". It is a four part fugue, with a theme that is only loosely based on the choral melody. It is a nice fugue, with lost of occurences of the fugue theme and motivic play based on that theme.

The recording was done with the Hauptwerk software and the sampleset, made by Sonus Paradisi, of the Schnittger organ in the St. Martini-kerk, Groningen (https://www.sonusparadisi.cz/en/organs/netherlands/groningen-st-martini.html).

Dear @primalamusica, sorry to jump in a bit off topic but may I ask you to support the HiveSQL proposal?
It lost its funding recently and your help would be much appreciated to keep the HiveSQL service free for the Hive community.
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Thank you for your support!
