Market In The Winter With A Hot Pie

avatar

I think that now all blogs should start with the winter theme. Of course, where there is winter. Where I live, in Romania, we have four seasons, approximately equal to each other (3 months each). This is what happened when I was a child ... now, with climate change, the seasons have become unbalanced. That's why I said we should talk about winter. Because this year, to me, the winter only lasted a week! I'm afraid that very soon I will not see snow.

It was a pleasure to go to the market through the snow. Did I say market? It means it's #MarketFriday, this collection of blogs about places to buy something. Invented and maintained by Denise, @dswigle. This is a challenge, one of the most successful and longevity challenge that exists here.

So this is about a visit to the market in winter time. With a well-defined purpose, which I will reveal in the second part.

The market I frequent is a small neighborhood market, a suburban market. It is a relic of the past. It takes about ten minutes to walk the streets flooded with snow and full of parked cars to reach the market.

The market seems deserted. When it's hot or at least not snowing or raining, there are plenty of small vendors of vegetables and fruits around.

Only a few brave came with vegetables ...and for vegetables I went to the market.

The fruits are more in the market, in the covered area. However, it is very cold and I think many fruits are frozen. I took less pictures because the sellers are not happy when they see a camera.

This was my market from which winter scared both buyers and sellers. Fortunately, I found what I needed to prepare something, something for the second part. Actually something for a small party. A party for my son.

Besides the market, people went out to clean the sidewalk of snow. I also did this in front of the house.

I think I can say I'm kind of a veteran in #marketfriday. I have written dozens of blogs and sometimes feel like I have exhausted all topics. Denise tried to help me and suggested that I write again about my recipes and how I make food. In the past, I used to put a recipe in each market blog.

For my son's little party I decided to make a pie. For the first time in my life. A cheese pie. Salt and herbs.

I saw in a movie about the life of the Danube Delta residents. They are called Lipovans, they came from Russia and they keep the old Russian traditions. There I saw how they make the cheese pie and I try to copy their recipe.

At first I prepared the dough. A yeast dough.

One kilogram of flour, hot water, yeast, a teaspoon of sugar, a teaspoon of salt and oil.

I put the flour together with yeast, a little warm water, salt and oil and mix, mixing very well for ten minutes.

Then I put the dough in a bowl, cover it and wait for it to grow.

Greenery. Green onion and dill. Cut into small pieces.

Cheese. Salted cheese is crushed into small pieces. Mix with the onion and dill.

This is the filling of the pie. Add three eggs.

After about an hour the dough has grown and is good for processing. I break it into small pieces, flatten them and put the cheese filling. Then I cut the pie into pieces.

In a tray, I first put some baking paper and then the pie pans. I greased the pies with an egg yolk.

I almost got to the end. Baking is coming. I put the trays in the oven for about half an hour. It must be checked whether they are well cooked.

And ready, the pie is ready! Very good, it is some work but worth it.

That was another Friday when I went to the market.

I once initiated a challenge called SAM. Something About Me. I thought it was good for our readers to know more about us and to understand better what we are posting. Well, SAM is dead but I still think it would be in everyone's interest to get to know each other better. This is the reason for the short presentation below!

Unfortunately, due to over fifty years of communism (1947-1989) and a reluctant transition to capitalism (1990 and up to now), Romania is among the least economically and socially developed countries. I hope this will settle quickly in the near future.
Instead, it is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe!

Such a cool looking market and i know thats a pun but it does look interesting, as for the weather patterns they sure seem to have gone all over this place, we have had cold spells but hardly any snow this winter, but i have a feeling winter may still have surprises for us here

The weather there is extremely cold damn. They are literally packing snows off the road.

On lighter note, your preparation looks very appealing to the eyes, wish I had a taste
