Anti-Virus and Crypto pioneer John McAfee found dead in prison cell just before his extradition to the U.S. was approved. Was it really suicide? (Update: Instagram deleted)
Der Anti-Virus und Krypto-Pioneer John McAfee ist gestern tot in seiner spanischen Gefängniszelle aufgefunden wurde, kurz bevor seiner Auslieferung in die USA stattgegeben wurde. War es wirklich Selbstmord?
Gestern hat uns die traurige Nachricht im Internet erreicht und diesmal scheint es anders als im Oktober 2020 kein Fake zu sein.
Das Seltsame ist aber, dass McAfee davor mehrmals getweetet hat, dass wenn er im Gefängnis sterben sollte, es nicht Selbstmord sein wird.

McAfee gilt als Pioneer der ersten kommerziellen Anti-Virus-Software und hat die gleichnamige Firma 1987 gegründet, später an Intel verkauft, und ist dann nach Belize (Zentralamerika) ausgewandert, wo er 2012 verdächtigt wurde, einen Nachbarn umgebracht zu haben und auf der Flucht zu sein. Verurteilt wurde er meines Wissens aber nicht.
Einige Jahre später machte McAfee wieder weltweite Schlagzeilen durch sein Engagement in Kryptowährungen, dem Mining von Bitcoin und anderen Kryptos und seiner charismatischen Auftritte auf Konferenzen und Twitter. Auch für das Präsidentenamt wollte McAfee zwei Mal kandidieren.
In Erinnerung wird auch seine skurrile Bitcoin-Preis-Ankündigung bleiben ("I will eat my dick on national television"), wenn Bitcoin bis 2020 nicht 500K (später auf eine Million Dollar revidiert) erreicht.
Auch zur feindlichen Übernahem von Steem / Hive hat sich McAfee geäußert.

Zuletzt wurde McAfee von den USA wegen Steuerhinterziehung gesucht und vor einem Jahr in Spanien verhaftet, wo er auf seine Auslieferung wartete.
Vielleicht gab es noch mehr Leichen im Keller oder es ist etwas faul an der ganzen Sache.

Update: McAfee's Instagram-Account wurde gelöscht, nachdem jemand anscheinend nach seinem Tod ein Q gepostet hat. Sehr komisch.

The anti-virus and crypto pioneer John McAfee was found dead yesterday in his Spanish prison cell, shortly before his extradition to the U.S. was approved. Was it really suicide?
Yesterday the sad news reached us on the Internet and this time, unlike in October 2020, it does not seem to be fake.
But the strange thing is that McAfee tweeted several times before that if he dies in prison, it will not be suicide.

McAfee is considered the pioneer of the first commercial anti-virus software and founded the well-known company with his name in 1987, later sold it to Intel, and then emigrated to Belize (Central America), where he was suspected in 2012 of killing a neighbor and of fleeing. He was not convicted, however, as far as I know.
A few years later, McAfee again made global headlines for his involvement in cryptocurrencies, mining Bitcoin and other cryptos, and his charismatic appearances at conferences and on Twitter. McAfee also wanted to run for president twice.
He will also be remembered for his bizarre Bitcoin price announcement ("I will eat my dick on national television") if Bitcoin does not reach $500K (later revised to $1 million) by 2020.
McAfee has also commented on the hostile takeover of Steem / Hive.

Most recently, McAfee was wanted by the U.S. for tax evasion and arrested a year ago in Spain, where he was awaiting extradition.
Maybe there were more skeletons in the closet or there is something wrong about the whole story.

Belize is not an island.
I think his death was just after the Court approved his extradition but before it got final approval from Spanish minister.
He should have renounced his US citizenship years ago but didn't.
Now Uncle Sam has yet another victim.

I don’t remember he ever doing something good, and he probably was messing with shady stuff.
He lived off of memeing and scamming crypto investors, Elon Musk would go down a similar path if he was not so immorally rich.

McAfee was unfortunately also involved with pump and dump schemes, shilling random coins on twitter for profit, most likely. Also thought that Elon should be more cautious.

Wow. I'm just hearing about this now. I didn't even know that he was in jail. The whole Twitter thing certainly makes the situation bizarre. McAfee as a character is bizarre though. Everything about him.

Dass hier Verschwörungstheorien nahe liegen, ist klar.
Nur, weil jemand sagt, er werde sich nicht umbringen, heißt das aber nicht, dass er das nicht tut. Insbesondere, wenn man sich ohnehin auf die jeweiligen Aussagen nicht wirklich verlassen kann (bekanntlich war sein "I'll eat my dick" eine leere Versprechung).
Dass er im spanischen Gefängnis angeblich Freunde und gutes Essen hatte, ist offensichtlich kein Grund. Dieses Gefängnis sollte er ja eben verlassen.
Ich weiß nicht, welche Strafe ihm in den USA drohte, aber eine lange Haftstrafe kann schon ein Grund für einen Selbstmord sein. Wenn er von Anfang an mit dem Gedanken gespielt hatte, sich vor einer Auslieferung eventuell umzubringen, macht es schon Sinn, genau das zu bestreiten und so aus seinem Tod einen Mythos zu machen, seinen "Feinden" Ärger zu bereiten und gleichzeitig für den "$WHACKD" Coin Werbung zu machen.
Letztendlich sind das natürlich alles Spekulationen.
