I am obsessed with 'The Good Wife'. Like, full-blown addiction levels. I cannot stop watching it. Every time I say, “Okay, just one more episode,” it ends with me watching five more, no regrets. It has officially taken over my life. And you know what? I’m not even mad about it.

I’ve always been a sucker for legal dramas. How to Get Away with Murder, Suits, Boston Legal—those are my lifelines. My comfort shows. So when I started The Good Wife, I was like, alright, let’s see what you’ve got. And oh boy, it did not disappoint. In fact, it gave me everything I love about legal dramas—and then some. It’s smart. Wicked smart, with a fast pace and drama that’s absolutely dripping—soaked, even. The kind of twisty, chaotic mess that makes you sit up and yell at your screen. Pure, irresistible chaos.

Character Deep Dive

Let’s talk about the queen herself: Alicia Florrick. The show revolves around her. Her husband, Peter Florrick, is a politician—State’s Attorney—and the man gets arrested for all kinds of shady stuff. Scandalous doesn’t even begin to cover it. Alicia, despite it all, stands by him. Hence, The Good Wife. She’s a lawyer too, only she’s been out of practice for like a decade, taking care of the kids and playing the housewife role. Now, with Peter’s scandal and job loss, she’s forced back into the courtroom and gets a job as a first-year associate at this super competitive law firm.

Watching her rise from the bottom, navigate the chaos, hold her own in a male-dominated firm, and absolutely slay in the courtroom? It’s so satisfying. Alicia is strong, smart, morally upright (well, mostly), and just really easy to root for.

Alicia Florrick

Now, let’s get to the part where I completely lose my mind: Will Gardner. I have been rooting for him and Alicia since the first time they made eye contact. The chemistry? The tension? Off the charts. Will is smart, charismatic, and honestly just so dreamy. He’s one of the named partners at Alicia’s firm—Lockhart & Gardner—and I love how their relationship evolves while also adding so much emotional complexity to the show.

The Power Couple - Will & Alicia ♥

Kalinda Sharma didn’t make a strong impression on me at first. I didn’t really feel strongly about her either way, I was pretty neutral. She’s the firm’s in-house investigator—cool, mysterious, morally grey (sometimes straight-up morally black, to be honest)—but girl gets the job done.

And then there's Cary Agos. Now that character arc took me by surprise. I couldn’t stand him in Season 1. He came off smug and kind of petty, always trying to outshine Alicia. But in Season 2, he suddenly became... likable? I started respecting him. He’s actually a really good lawyer, and—shockingly—he’s one of the few in this morally messy world who seems to have some ethics intact.

Kalinda & Cary - Friends? Foes?

Speaking of Lockhart & Gardner, let’s talk about Diane Lockhart, the other named partner. Diane is a powerhouse. She’s elegant, strong, and terrifyingly intelligent. I didn’t always agree with her choices early on, but over time, I’ve really grown to appreciate her complexity.

On the flip side, if there’s one character I cannot stand, it’s Jackie Florrick—Peter’s mother. Alicia’s mother-in-law. This woman. I can’t deal with her. She’s nosy, manipulative, always inserting herself where she doesn’t belong. Every time she shows up on screen, my blood pressure spikes. And I’m only in Season 3—my hatred for her is just growing exponentially with each episode.

As for Peter Florrick himself? Ugh. Mixed feelings, honestly. Mostly dislike. He’s obviously done some terrible things, and while he occasionally shows signs of change, it never sticks. One step forward, three steps back.

Peter and his obnoxious mother 😒

Oh! Almost forgot—Eli Gold. What a character. When he first appeared, I didn't expect him to become one of my favorites, but he absolutely did. Portrayed by the brilliant Alan Cumming, He's politically astute, often blunt, and doesn't waste time with niceties. Eli brings a much-needed dose of sharp wit and dry humor to the show. Despite his manipulative and sometimes ruthless tactics, there's an endearing quality to him that makes you root for him.

Eli is pure Gold

From the very first episode, Season 2 comes in hot. The courtroom scenes are sharper, the politics more tangled, and the emotional tension? Whew. It’s like the writers found their rhythm and just ran with it. You can feel the characters getting more layered—flawed, human, and constantly evolving. It’s not just about the cases (which are still incredibly well-written and thought-provoking), but about how those cases affect the people involved. And some of those moments really sneak up on you.

What I loved most this season was the way the show balanced the drama. It’s never too heavy or too light. There’s intensity, yes, but also humour, wit, and those quiet, emotional moments that catch you off guard. The pacing is so tight—you never feel like anything’s dragging or unnecessary. Every episode has something that makes you lean in, whether it’s a brilliant legal twist or a charged glance between two characters.

And the performances? Stellar. Julianna Margulies continues to carry the show effortlessly, but honestly, the supporting cast really shines this season. There are new faces, deeper dynamics, and some seriously good guest appearances that make everything feel fresh without losing the show’s identity.

Also, I’ve gotta say—I started caring way too much about everyone’s career moves, alliances, and office politics. Like, why am I this invested in a fictional law firm? But I am. Completely. Hopelessly.

The biggest twist this season was of course the revelation that Peter slept with Kalinda. How low can the man fall? I don't feel Kalinda is to blame too much here. I mean, okay, she slept with a married man but doesn't the major responsibility fall to the shoulders of the said married man to control himself? That said, it definitely goes against women code for Kalinda to sleep with someone's husband, and she does lose some brownie points.

But this twist made me happy because this pushed Alicia to finally cut that jerk of a husband lose. And that also means that there is a good chance for Will and Alicia to be together! Yayy! In other news, after a pretty interesting political campaign, Peter wins the race to be come the state's attorney. I wish he hadnt, I wish he stayed in the jail for the rest of his sorry life but for the sake of drama, we need to tolerate him some more.

Overall, Season 2 deepens everything that made Season 1 so great. It’s smart, addictive, and emotional in a way that sneaks up on you. If you liked Season 1, you’re going to love this. And if you haven’t started the show yet... first of all, why? Second of all, just know it only gets better from here.
