To own a place of peace.

To have peace in life is to have a precious gift that has no price.
125.jpg

As I lifted my arms on that hill, breathing in fresh mountain air in the silence, I could only feel the peace in my heart. Before I die, I want to turn this dream of mine into reality and yes, I do feel that the time will come to do this.
A small patch of land with no debts and no worries. What more can one want?
So come and have a look at my dream.

129.jpg

139.jpg

Far away from the traffic rush and the maddening crowds. Yet within a reasonable distance from a hospital due to failing health. A place where one can awake to birdsong and all of the other sounds of nature.
059.jpg

To build a simple little house suitable for basic living with a shower outside under the heavens to wash under the stars.
088.jpg

A little homemade bridge across a stream to our front door.
093.jpg

Marian helping me to restore her old tractor. (Remember this is a dream)
165.jpg

A place to look after her chickens and where she can play with her small goats. Oh we will also have fresh eggs and a cow for fresh milk.
109.jpg

116.jpg

Nature all round will be untouched and allowed to grow to its supreme best.
161.jpg

And of course many flowers to maintain the beauty in our minds.
030.jpg

Yes, we will also plant our own organic and fresh vegetables.
067.jpg

And a priority will be to have expansive views as it fosters one's freedom feelings.
063.jpg

Finally the ocean will also be within an easy reach for our afternoon walks.
160.jpg

A dream that has no pretensions or malice in it. Just to live untouched by the grind and disappointments of what we call life.
Something like my favorite poem.

Weaving our soul’s garments

We are all busy weavers. Forever are we throwing the
shuttle backward and forward, each moment leaving
one new thread in the web of our life, which shall stay
there forever. Every thought, every feeling, every motion,
every light fancy that plays but for a moment in the soul,
becomes a thread which is instantly a permanent part of the
life we are living.

Our words and acts are threads clean and
beautiful or stained and blemished, according to their moral
character. Thus we are forever weaving, and the web that we
make our souls must wear in eternity. How important it is
that we put into this fabric only threads of immortal beauty!

If we do God’s will always, and train ourselves to think over
God’s thoughts, and to receive into our heart the influences of
God’s love and grace, and to yield ever and only to God’s Spirit,
we shall weave for our souls a seamless robe of righteousness
which shall appear radiant and lovely when all earth’s garments
have faded and crumbled to dust.

In Green Pastures – JR Miller 1927

As they say; maybe one day this dream will come true for us.

And That's All Friends.

We were missed with the loadshedding today.

Can be serious if I don't control it, but the thing that I hate is a handful of pills every day.

That is a mighty fine dream. That type of living is good for the mind and the soul. I do hope your wish comes true...

Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight.

It worked for Geppetto, it may work for you as well.

Sweet dreams are made of this!
I hope you do realize this dream. It has all the qualities of perfection. Does Marian know she will be a repair woman?

Sweet and simple dreams indeed Lady Denise and that you for kindly stopping by.
Hahaha, Marian is already a repair woman, as we do everything together and 30 minutes ago we were in the garden planting Jasmine bushes. Too dark now and we will continue on Monday in the late afternoon, as too hot in the day.

Thank you for the prayers and as you know, they are reciprocated 🙏❤️❤️❤️

Oh, the sweet scent of jasmine on a summer night! I do so love it. It wafts in and out, permeating the air.

I miss my old house with jasmine growing up the fences.

Always steeped in prayer. Goodnight from here, Stephen ❤️

We really live in a twisted world and we will go there on the weekend.

Good morning my friend. Thanks for everything.
Getting to know you has been a blessing that has made me a better individual.
Your unwavering faith is remarkable and motivation to live a life with greater awareness of everything that i should appreciate more.
We've been having a wonderful time in Florida and with some of the family presently visiting with us, it has been go, go, go.
The grandchildren have been having a ball and are keeping us on our toes.
By nightfall we're pleasantly exhausted. I'll tell you one thing, I've been sleeping like a log.
Thanks for all of the beer, pizza, and especially the luv and sincere replies.

You can say that again and we hear many bad stories in the charity world.
Thing is that I still have a few new community upliftment projects to launch, but time is slowly and surely running out and before I can think of us, the people come first.

So everything is a bit of a hurry curry at the moment.
Speaking of curry, I miss the bunny chows so much and nobody can make it like the people in KZN.

People fleece others without batting an eye, this makes it difficult for the genuine charities to raise funds and move left or right.

Been in the charity field now in our 21st tear Lady Joan and very little that we haven't seen. Shamsters have indeed made it difficult for us to raise funding and we cannot afford a professional fundraiser.
An extra problem is that fundraisers don't work on commission anymore and they have to be paid a stiff monthly salary, which in itself creates other problems such as performance ...!

Ah yes, the Indians are the best at a hot Bunny chow and great that they have taught you.

Direct approach with people is far more rewarding, many are skimming of the top everywhere. Affiliate marketing in this country is not really something that took off, people always want a basic salary with possible cherry on top as well.

In the 3.5 years that we are now down here Papillon has not received one cent of income to cover our overheads, but we have simply continued with our work.
Thankfully we still have the conditional income for the trauma training and the feeding, but 100% of the amounts are transferred over to our partner non-profits that run the projects.

So yes, we cannot even think about paying a huge fundraisers salary, as it will definitely sink us.
Hopefully in a year or two I will have enough crypto to take out a regular 10% draw for Papillon.

I find it totally disgusting the way Lotto where money was set aside for NGO/NPO to continue have all been directed into get rich by handful. When Natal Lotto was run we always received subsidy into welfare systems, since ANC Government started the National Lottery is is all skulduggery.

We had a dream.... Did not last long, did it?

We got money from Lotto in Papillon's early years, twice and not much to crow about.
Then a new owner took over and our application was "lost". A second one was refused as they didn't have enough money and that was the end of us and the Lotto.

I have read about some of their tedious alleged corruption acts, ring fencing the income to enrich a small circle of friends and it is shocking. The truth will not remain hidden even after a ton of denials and threats.

What dream ? Where? That so called dream was born with a wet nappy that was never changed.

A very sad situation and us and other charities can do so much more with regular support. But of course driving around in the latest luxury car is more important. Skewed priorities and we see it everywhere in the country.

One day at a time is a very good habit and I happily cannot dream.

Charity will only suffer more with government paying out grants. Few will make effort to find education and grow.

At least the handful you find and teach stand a chance in life realizing the wonderful opportunity presented to them.

I can tell you that things have certainly grown mote difficult in the charity world and many are closing down. We have miraculously survived over time and yes, we have also faced very difficult times.
Sooner that I can get the Papillon account here to grow, the sooner we will have a ray of light.

Our hopes are in the Coding Training project as we want to roll it out to 24 schools here as soon as the pilot is completed. But everything takes time and it's a luxury that we do not have Lady Joan.

Teaching into coding with critical skills shortage list now updated for skills being sourced outside the country, perhaps a place to start looking to give advice to those interested.

What slays me is the qualifications they want, don't offer excellent education to our youth, yet prepared to pay importing skills! Human overload we were around 40M in 1994, now 60M, people need education which has never been on a fair footing.

Luxury to have a good education! Good luck in your endeavours!

Oh yes, we are planning something and will deliver evidence of our learners skills.

Maybe they will recruit from Cuba again and it's a pity that so many of our top skilled people are leaving. But there's no work for them and even engineers with top qualifications are sitting at home.
I still want to know of what benefit it is to have a 100% pass rate at schools that will do nothing for the children.

We struggle on Lady Joan.

We have the talent, given opportunity many would be more than qualified through proper apprenticeship environment.

Yet they will 'import' more, wait it has not ended yet!

I saw today that a few Non Profits are standing up against the 50 million that the government wants to donate to Cuba. They reckon that the money could better be used for feeding the poor here in our country and I agree with them.
The old story of to clean your own backyard before you clean the backyards of others.

Re-instatement of the apprentice system will go a far way to solve the unemployment problem methinks. 18 months training is not sufficient to turn out master craftsmen and it's just a quick fix shortcut with disastrous results.

0

My take on 50 million for Cuba was if we requesting hand outs from international, why are we giving when we deep in the shit ourselves?

Charity starts at home, something my mother always taught us!

3 to 5 year apprenticeships with work experience while learning is the only sure footed way forward.

Education on all levels is run like a sausage factory the way I see it, children are seldom told they don't make the grade.

0

Yes, charity does indeed start at home and another 5 billion has again amazingly disappeared.

5 years best, although if one has the skills then to do the exam after 3 years like I did.

The good thing if there could be any good about is with the forced passes there are no more children in their 20s still in the classes. They pass whether they make it or not.

Money moves through palm quicker than you can believe, sad the people still wait patiently in hope!

Trade school was an excellent way to get scholars through schooling to finish off with further three to five years in chosen field. George Campbell is about the only one still here in Durban.

Age allowed to be school going is problematic to say the least.

A big fight is on at the moment for a bigger grant and we hope that they will get it.

My mom instigated the necessity of me having a trade qualification, as she said that it was something to fall back on in case I was out of a job in the management field. Thankfully I have never had to fall back on it, but it helped with private jobs when me kids were small. In fact I got my first car for doing a guy's new house roofs.

Thank you for the links and I will have a look.

People are battling, it is getting worse. Many no longer employ due to laws implemented, grants ease the pain don't fix the problem.

Covid may not kill but starvation will, closing the country, more draconian laws, one is always between the devil and the deep blue sea.

I heard today from a labour lawyer that there are 10 million people that want to work. We face an almost impossible mountain to climb, as I cannot see even 1% of those people finding employment.
Grants are only a plaster for a festering sore.

As an apprentice I worked for R35 a week. Now they want R3000.

There is much talk now going on about relaxing the restrictions, but the legal minimum wage remains to be a major problem. People simply cannot afford it and the unemployment numbers grow because of it.

Growth ratio to work opportunities almost equal, so this will never be a hurdle to overcome unless people slow down in having babies.

My first monthly pay was R60/month, had to pay monthly train ticket to/from Johannesburg, rent and yes still a little to save or enjoy. Stronger Rand in those days!

Minimum wage many resort to part time work which is no answer, these ruling implemented have made matter worse.

I personally think matters are going to get much worse before they get any better.

Tough going those years and I couldn't save anything, as I had a wife and 2 children to feed. Even with the stronger rand my battle was very real to me.

Small businesses is the answer methinks.

It is attitude of the people, when people can settle down and call themselves South African with pride, loyalty to the country, irrespective of colour, creed or self importance, the sooner we could grow.

It makes one sad since there is no place in history which remains untouched by colonialism in one form or another through the ages.

Don't wear Rolex watches, drive imported cars, shoes or clothing if you don't want to be 'tainted' by colour of people.

Living in the past is futile, purely self indulgent.

Oh yes and if only the founders would have known what troubles they would have created so many years down the line.

The funny thing is that lately all colors wear Rolex watches, drive imported cars, wear Gucci suits and the most expensive shoes. So it is the pot calling the kettle black.
