Charming Places in Spain - La Nucia town

In what was only a valley of fruit trees, now lies the town of La Nucia. The fruit trees were sure to be very tasty because the name La Nucia comes from the Arabic language, from word Naziha which means delicious. This town is just about 20 minutes from the place I live, situated between the sea and the mountains in the Region of La Marina Baixa (in Comunidad Valenciana, Spain) I have been many times here, however, a few days ago I went to walk there without any hurry, enjoying my free day.

In the first and this second photo, we see the church of La Purísima Concepción (Immaculate Conception) which dates from the 18th century. It has an imposing staircase and two fountains next to it, built by autochthonous stonemasons of the place.

The streets are the typical narrow streets we can find in Spanish city centres. I have always liked those kinds of streets, and walking there, especially in summer, is a refreshing experience. The houses provide shade, and especially the stone houses maintain their freshness in summer.

streets2.jpg

As I live in a different kind of a building, and not in such a narrow centre kind of old houses as we see here, the last summer was challenging. We travel somewhere almost every year, but in 2020 we stayed here, and I can tell you, the summer was long and hot. I think it would be easier to live in this type of house. Good to think about that.

In the nearby streets, a little wider, I saw a different type of construction. Houses with a small yard, with a small fence around. It reminded me of the villages and houses I had seen in Central Europe.

We can see also that these houses are surrounded by other buildings, the not so interesting way of construction made its effect in this town too.

I also like to take photos of the front doors of old houses. Double doors in the middle of the house on the lower floor, and two windows on each side, with a terrace above the door on the upper floor. Houses like this adorn one of the larger streets I walked through.

Still in the narrow centre, we come across the Town House. A white building shining in the main square, surrounded by the noise of people in small cafes .... Small windows adorn the facade, as well as flags that flutter if the wind picks up.

From the main square, I entered again into one narrow street. In the facade of one of the houses, I saw a small window with a statue of a saint. So I read in a small board we can find there too, that it is Sant Vicent. The purpose of this kind of statues was to bless the neighbours and protect them from different plagues.

Explained also on the board next to the house. Typically, these information boards are written in three languages: Spanish, Valencian, which is also official language for the province, and English.

From that point, less than one minute walk separates us from something so nice and relaxing. Panoramic view that we will see just around the corner...

Here we are, from the town centre enjoying in view towards the sea and mountains on the other angle.

And this is not all that this small town has to offer. On the way back to the car, which I parked at the entrance because finding a parking lot somewhere here in the city centre would be a real challenge, I came across some more interesting sights. For example, this other church, which attracted my attention. I went up to the place to see which church it was.

DSC_3132.JPG

It is a hermitage, San Rafael, which was restored in 2004. It has two towers and bells in each one. The dome is also beautiful, although it is more modest than in other municipalities, where the domes of the churches are usually blue-roofed.

What is also interesting is that around the houses and in small squares we can see a lot of greenery. Some put flowers in planters and there are also small palm trees.

Like any other city, in La Nucia we can find a police station, a library, a cultural centre or a tourist information centre where you can get free information about the attractions of the town and its surroundings.

And not only that, La Nucia has a large concert hall, where concerts of classical music by national and foreign performers were often held. Ballet could also be enjoyed from comfortable seats as well as theatrical performances.

One more interesting place I saw was this building. It says Juzgado de Paz, and the traduction would be Magistrate's court. Interesting details adorn the facade and tall palm trees grow around and in the square behind it.

Also, a saw a mural in one of the walls from where I took the photo. A girl with a flower, with an inscription Human rights.

At the very end of the city, reaching the place where I parked, there is a recreational area, Font de la Favara.
It is a green park, with several levels, where you can walk along these narrow little paths and enjoy the chirping of birds. But not only birds can you see. Two squirrels jumped around happily, but when they saw me, they climbed the tree. Unfortunately, they were so fast that I didn't get to take a nice picture of them, although if we take a closer look we can see them on one tree (the last photo in the second collage)

That would be all for this tour of the town of La Nucia. I made some pictures in collage form so as not to burden the post too much, but still so that you can enjoy as many details as possible. I hope that a friend I met here, @holisticmom, will also enjoy this walk through the small Spanish town where she once lived. Greetings and hasta luego!

Dear @mipiano, thank you so much for visiting La Nucia and taking these wonderful photos.
I remember some of these places well. Especially the Font de la Favara and El Ajuntament.

We used to park in the Car park where the picnic place is at the Font. My eldest son went swimming in the water there.

It still looks as beautiful as I remember.

I really enjoyed your post,

Muchísima gracias hermana. Amazing post xx

@holisticmom , while I was walking there, I was thinking about your time living in La Nucia. Although you lived in the urbanization and not in the city centre.

I parked there too, and there were children around in the picking area you say, I didn't want to take photos of other children, but yes, happy moments for children as it is a holiday week here.

I saw squirrels and a few cats , and from there I went to Polop de la Marina to take a tour also.

La Nucia is is so clean town and organized. Much more facilities than in Alfas and Albir. I like it 🙂. Thank you for stopping by and I am glad you liked my post hermana 💚

Yes it's a lovely town and so much to do there too. Because it is the closest town to Urb El Tossal, we would go there often. I like how all the towns connect to each other too.
I think the facilities in Altea are good too, but La Nucia definitely has the better skate park and sports center.

Oh, yes, the sports center something they are very proud of... and they even had the International Padel Tournament :)
