Steam Rail Victoria, Open Day. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Steam Rail Victoria is a not for profit organisation which was established in 1965 with the sole purpose of restoring former locomotives to their former glory.
Based in the New Port rail yard one of Melbourne's oldest rail yards it is home to a 132 year old steam train with edwardian pressed tin work.
Also in their possession is a heritage listed diesel powered engine train dating back from the 1950s.
Once a year this magnificent yard is open to the general public, for a fee. You can surround yourself with age old trains and get an up close personal look into history.
Before the great lockdown of 2020 I was able to take my 3 yr old out and she loved every moment of it.
With replica trains on site and the ability to hope on board and sound the original steam horns this is a must visit place.
We're looking forward for COVID-19 to pass and for us to be able to return.
