Finding the Positive

I've spent hours praying for my daughter and her children. She left Pennsylvania and disappeared with one daughter, her wife and one son to Colorado Springs and cut off all communication.

We had a falling out several years ago, she came home and we helped her family and then they left again and after texting with Jeff for a time cut off all communication again, although we never even exchanged words regarding the situation, she chose to cut me and her brothers out of her life completely, then made sure my grandchildren did the same.

She kicked her oldest son out at age 15 after they had a serious disagreement and he went to live with his father. I can see and talk to him occasionally. She relinquished custody of him to his father and he relinquished parental rights of their daughter to her.

This week this same grandson notified us that his sister was also kicked out with her boyfriend recently and wishes to return for a visit to see us. I am encouraged greatly by this positive development. The oldest granddaughter and her fiance abruptly cut off communication with me and my husband prior to the wedding in the early part of 2021 and moved to Colorado Springs to stay with my daughter, her little brother and my daughter's wife. That granddaughter recently returned to the town nearby, but I haven't heard from them since their return to Pennsylvania. We had had a good relationship. I'm praying she will decide to come around again soon so I can see both her and my great grandbaby.

I'm big on family and few things sting as much as silence from the ones I love. This weekend I see my oldest grandson. He graduated early from highschool in April and works a night job with his father. He asked my husband for help learning to drive.

Relationships are complex and try as I may, I'm imperfect. It's easier if people talk about what's bothering them and people can work through their feelings. I believe my faith offends my daughter, although she never said as much, she now says she hates me and she hates God, but she doesn't believe He exists.

The Bible has a verse I believe and I remind myself of frequently as a balm to the wound:

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
Joel 2:25 KJV

I've lost a lot of years with my grandchildren and I'll not get them back, but God promises to me a blessing and promises to restore joy.
