I Have Been Too Cool With My Landlored || Broken Promises and Delayed Repairs

(Edited)

I am someone who tries to put himself in other people's shoes before reacting, and sometimes I hate being angry and try to be cool at times when I should be pissed. To those who read the last post, I wrote about the new apartment I got here.

590B7DA6-4CD3-4CAE-836D-CF558910878C.jpeg

The apartment has issues with the ceiling, and I was told that as soon as I paid for the place, it would be done. It is quite annoying to see that, until now, they have not done anything to that place. I am annoyed because they are delaying my plans to move in and are not meeting our agreement.

untitled.gif

I have sent a series of messages to the landlord with no reply and presently disturbing the caretaker on the issue. I have made it vividly clear to them that if by Monday the ceiling is not yet repaired, either I leave the place, ask for a refund, or I repair the ceiling myself and pay half the amount for the ceiling in the coming year.

I have tried to be patient with them. I paid for the place two weeks ago, on a Wednesday, and tomorrow is going to be a Monday.

untitled.gif

The ridiculous reason I got from the caretaker was that the landlord is delaying repairs because he wants to repair other rooms too, and he doesn't want to pay for workmanship more than once.

The people in the other rooms are not even around to open their rooms for the carpenter, who would make the repairs. Now, he is trying to delay me because of this issue. If so, why did he rent out the place when he was not ready to fix the ceiling? Why was I told it would be done immediately since I paid the rent?

Anyways, I am happy I am at home with my family at the moment and not in school, because being around s school location would only cause me to boil inside, but at the same time, it is painful that this is happening. Hopefully, the place gets fixed tomorrow, or at least on Tuesday. Or Else, I would drop my coolness and begin to serve the landlord and house caretaker hot hot.

Sorry about that. Situations like this can be very frustrating. I had an issue of a leaking toilet when I moved into my current apartment. I had to pay for it. It was annoying because I was new and I was yet to use the toilet. It wasn't my place to do so but I did it because the lodge president and caretaker wouldn't take care of it for me.

I have promised them that when I'm moving out, I'll spoil that toilet because it's my money. Let the incoming tenant fix it too.

I hop you get it sorted out this week. Warmest regards!

😅😅😅🤗🤗 Didiee will not kill me with laugh oo

Why not deduct the money from your next house rent instead of spoiling it? You know it's not good? 😆😆

It's good o. I fixed the toilet, I bought the stuff that was used. I will remove it when I pack. It's my property so I'll pack it with me😂

The caretaker has actually been changed. It would be unfair to bring him an issue he wasn't part of. I'll simply carry my property.

Don´t do that, please. Lol.
These people can be frustrating at times. So sad though.

Let's see what the Lord will direct me to do. Now that this country is so hard, when I think about that money, I become angry. 😑

If I am going to make the repairs with my money, I would make sure I remove the payment from my next rent.

Smiles... I like this bae

Please do so... Let them know that you are not joking...

Haha😂, this babe is funny, it's better to deduct the amount spent on repairs from your next rent payment than to spoil it, as long as you made them aware of the of the damages before repairing it yourself.

Peace is not an option dear. When people move mad with you, move mad too😌

Shaa, I might be a trillionaire that time and it won't matter anymore. I will just forgive them.😌

That's pathetic man, landlords and caretakers are quite notorious for being cunny. I'm sure he didn't tell you he'll delay with the repairs before you paid him. My own landlord for example has refused to do some of the major repaires we asked him. It's crazy. You'll need to find ways for him to speed up the Process.

yeah he was saying that as soon as I pay, it would be done before weekend. it is now almost 2 weeks since I paid and nothing is done yet.

What would you do about those repairs your landlord hasn't done yet?

This is the issue with all landlords, I guess it's a general and cooperative thing to have such behavior; only a few have a kind heart. Once the money gets to their hands, they would stay playing somebody and you will be like a fool paying money when they should have made those repairs first. That's unfair.

I don't think they should start delaying you and waiting for others to arrive. He should start yours knowing you have bought things and ready to move in.

If they do not act on the time you gave them, I think the second option would be the best. Pay for the repairs and deduct in your next fee while you record all down because I wouldn't say you should ask for refund seeing you have bought a lot in that house, where you wan dey move them to while searching for another better one? Just be patient more and if it elapses, go for the option.

This whole scenario is annoying and the truth is without fully packing into the place, I am already tired of the place. Because for a small issue like mine, it is taking them an eternity.

What if the hostel have a very big issue for instance, How long would it take them to resolve the issue?

😂😂😂your landlord and caretaker's behavior and your last statement is actually funny (pardon my laughter).

This is actually serious, giving them a deadline is a good thing to do, if they refuse to repair the damages I think it will be best to ask for a refund that might ginger them. Asking for a refund before the deadline is even better unless you re not in a hurry.

I don't think repairing it yourself is the best thing to do, before they say they didn't force you to do it.

Take it easy bro, you're handling it just right 😊.

exactly, this is another thing I thought of... But the landlord never see crazy if he tries such a thing. I would show him what crazy is.

So sorry about this experience. It is common these days for people not to take their promises seriously again, and when you react, you become the bad person, because it is way easier to judge a person based on immediate actions that looking at the full picture.

Unless accommodations are hard to obtain where you live, it is highly discouraged to take an apartment based on a "promised" repairs. Immediately your money gets into the hands of your landlord, it is hard to get the work done most of the time. So,

However, based on the extent of the damage, you may consider repairing yourself and letting go if the cost won't be too significant, or tactfully reach the landlord and try to reach a compromise on it on the option you have to repair and remove the expended amount from your rent the following year (but to do this, you have to take very good records every step of the way as evidence, if possible, obtain and store receipts of transactions).

Just take it easy, anger no fit you abeg!

Hello Star...I know you are upset but calm down bro
You see those landlord and caretaker, I don't know if they will make heaven oo 😂😂😂😂.... because their ill treatment to tenants, some of them though, are really bad... like without conscience...I really hope they will rethink and do the needful asap!...

But for the main time, please calm down
All will be fine, okay?

I don't blame them, they already collected money and it becomes hard for them to spend a little from the money

yeah, that's the exact thing. I don learn lesson sha... Any place that I would want to rent either for someone or for myself, if it has any pending repairs, it must be done before I pay a dime. Or else, I would reduce the money for the repairs from the money I would be paying the caretaker or landlord in charge.

Anyways, I am calm... I am only just tired and frustrated already.

Exactly...it's better you do the repair yourself by negotiation to avoid this kind of issues

From the excellent book The School for Gods:
Source (pdf of the book)

11 The Landlords

Other fragments of my life, images from the past, streamed before my eyes like a film on fast forward. The streets and faces of people made me recognize the hundred cities in which I had lived, the hundred houses in which I had slept.

And finally I caught a glimpse of…the shadow!... The dark presence that had always followed me,
whenever I had chosen a new house, every time I had moved. I felt the vice-like grip of apprehension. In every one of those houses I had found ogres: unreasonable landlords and argumentative characters, whom an ironic fate, a recurring destiny of admirable pedagogy, had required me to have as neighbours.

«Look carefully… observe them closely!» ordered the Dreamer, firmly but kindly, anticipating the painfulness of what He was about to show me.

«Those landlords were all the same person. There was no change… You didn’t want to ‘see’ that the person behind the mask, disguised as a landlord, was always you. You, meeting yourself! »

Something broke inside me. A heavy door slammed shut and I heard the metallic click of the lock. I had the terrifying certainty that once I had heard these words, nothing would ever be the same again. I fell apart inside, weeping without tears; my life had been that of a ghost, a reflection that I could see fading in the mirror of the world and disappearing without trace.

On the edge of that abyss, the words of the Dreamer came to my rescue.

«These are the guards, the jailers that you yourself have paid to perpetuate your state of dependence. Until you banish forever that song of pain which has always directed your life, those ghosts will keep coming back. »

The silence that followed lasted so long that I began to fear that the golden thread which joined us would break, and I felt a pang of anxiety at the thought that He might cut me out of His Dream.

It was a terrible feeling. For what seemed like an eternity I experienced that emptiness, that absence, and I ceased to exist. I understood then how much the Dreamer had become an integral part of my existence. I was connected to Him by a precious cord as if to a vital organ from which I drew life, a third lung from which I breathed ‘pure air’.

Then, new images from my past began to pass before my eyes, as though I were watching my life in an editing room. Somehow, I began to learn to control them. Now I could stop them, enlarge
them, zoom in or out to gain a perspective. I could include or exclude myself from the scene. I saw the villa in Via Fortini again, too large
and silent now that Luisa was in the hospital at Via Venezian in Milan and Luca and Georgia were with their grandparents in Piedmont.

I watched those days quickly rushing by, dawning and waning. At sunset, the shadows of the pine trees took possession of the old house, insinuating themselves like thin fingers into the innermost part of my Being.

I did not know the reason why the Dreamer had taken me to this exact spot. I did not know which part of my life I was to live through again. But I began to shake uncontrollably.

«We are about to go into the cellar of your life, the dark corners of your existence – He said, encouraging me – It’s time to do some tidying up… to clear things out. »

«Get rid of that man! – He ordered, hardening His tone into a scornful sneer – Get him out of your life once and for all! »

I grasped what courage I had with both hands and once again climbed the steep road leading to the large gates of the entrance. I recognized the wind that blew down this hill and reached its fullest
force in that precise spot. Like a gale, it rushed down the gully of that twisting alley, brushing its rough dry-stone walls, speckled here and there with the green and white of wild capers. I went in through the little metal door and saw the Citroën I had had at that time parked at the far end.

The villa appeared before me unexpectedly, the inner driveway being very short. Just as unexpectedly, I came upon the front steps of terracotta tiles and stone. As I began to make my way up, I turned my gaze towards the bottom of the garden beyond the house. I stopped to observe the illuminated windows of the guest
cottage. Our only neighbour lived there.

Memories rushed into my mind, bumping into each other, and I felt my breathing quicken as the first frames of my affair with Judith began to flicker into view.

Im really glad I have a great landlord and thats very rare to find, in the country I live if you have a contract you could actually report him to the government and depending on the case he could even be charge with a penalty he would have to pay out of his pocket for wasting your time and the bad conditions of the place, this is my third year renting and its awesome so far, if its in your possibility just look for another place, he did it once he will do it again, good luck ✌️

With my military experience, we can approach this tactically by picking up the landlord and caretaker, I can send people from 174 battalion to make the arrest but lets see how things turns out first.

Many of these landlord and caretakers are something else. They act cool before they get the money and turn into something else after getting the money.

I hope they get it fixed because all that excuse they are giving doesn't make sense. Good to know you are home with your family, how is dad and mom?

Hi @starstrings01, what a setback you are going through how unpleasant. I hope the waters will be back to normal as soon as possible.
On the other hand I want to express my sincere thanks for all the support you have given me. Thank you for being a helping hand in this wonderful multiverse that is Hive. Blessings.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Most people offering services these days do not take honesty seriously. You already did your own part of the agreement and they are supposed to uphold their part also.
If you're in a hurry to move in I would advise you fix it yourself if it won't be much of an hassle and you can always settle with the landlord later.
