An Experience Of An Act Of Kindness Being Paid With Evil

Life is full of ups and downs and we learn daily through life experiences. Life has taught me diverse lessons both good and bad. But I choose not to let does bad experiences change me from being who I am. I choose to outgrow them and handle the issue more maturely.

I remember a few years ago during my undergraduate days. I had a friend, we are so close that we always do things together. I trusted her and I confided in her a lot. To tell you how close we are, we grew up in the same neighborhood during our childhood days. We eat and attend classes and occasions together. In fact, most times we are always referred to as twins.

When it was two weeks ahead of our exams, she came to me and asked me for financial assistance. She needed to pay up her school fees ahead of the exam day. She said she had financial issues and I too was aware that her parent are retired civil servants, because I didn't want her to miss the exam, I offered to help her.

I had some amount of money in my account which was meant to pay my house rent which will due in a month time. But because I understood how urgent her case was, I offered to give her the money for my house rent which she promised to pay up before month end. I was so happy to help her out.

Shortly, After a week I noticed she was not as lively as she used to be whenever we were together, she no longer come to my hostel as she used to do and whenever I showed up at her hostel she always came up with excuses like she's about going out or she's busy that I should come back. I never took offense, I decided to give her a call whenever I was coming, but her response was always that she was not available. As sincere and open as I was, I chose to make an excuse for her right in my heart possibly she was preparing for exams.

She stopped sitting next to me in class, giving various excuses, yet I did not read the lines on the wall. This continues till when we finish writing exams. I'm the one always checking on her while she snubbed me most time.

It's already 2 months since I borrowed her the money, my landlord has started threatening me that he will park my load out if I don't pay in few days. I have nobody to run to. How do I explain to my parent that I borrowed a friend my house rent of which I understand their financial status as well? I had no choice but to chat her on WhatsApp to remind her about the money since she promised to pay a month ago. She read the message, but she never replied. I called her on the phone she did not pick my calls. I had no choice but to go to her hostel.

On getting to her hostel, she was acting cold, and as soon as I brought up the issue about the money, she started lashing out at me that I was bothering her too much about the money, she rained loads of insults at me and embarrassed me in her hostel.

On getting home, I couldn't hold my tears, I cried and cried. Why will she do this to me?🥲.

When I couldn't pay my house rent, I had no choice but to move out, I had to squat at a colleague's place for a year before I could afford to pay for a hostel. Those periods were tough on me. I was betrayed. Till date, she never paid the money and I have decided not to ask her for the money again. Once in a while, I still see her and that does not stop me from greeting her. I learned the hard way.

I won't allow her attitude to stop me from helping people, rather I would borrow people money that I can give so that in case they don't pay back I won't get hurt.

Thanks for reading...

I'm sorry you had to experience such betrayal and hurt from someone you valued as s friend. Unfortunately, it was a difficult moment for you yet, you learned a big lesson when it comes to borrowing people money.

Good you plan not to ask her however whenever and if she chooses to return it, please collect it back
