Overcoming setbacks

In the early hours of the day after drafting my first article, I attempted to post what I had drafted only to realize that I had lost the document. I was devastated. As much as I enjoy writing, rewriting a piece is something I would not want. So I was left with two options: rewrite or feel sad about the post. I chose the former.

During the process of rewriting the post, I got a sizable upvote on a post I previously wrote. This seemed like a coincidence but I would rather attribute some meaning to it. This was a sign, a message from God/universe.

Since the beginning of February, I have encountered several setbacks that have grossly impacted my plans for the year. I have gone through a range of negative emotions--guilt, anger, regret, etc however I have constantly fought for my sanity. Rather than wallow in grief, I decided to push on with my dreams with the resources I have.

Things haven't been that bad. In fact, I am on track with everything I set out to do this year. I have time to focus on my programming, I have time to create content, and enough time to spend with the people I care about. Somehow the universe has made things work in my favor. I do not bank in its benevolence but it is nice to see things go well at least.

In times of difficulty, it is important to identify the things that matter. I was listening to Garyvee's podcast yesterday and he was asked a question: what do I do if my business fails? He answered simply: get a job. It might seem overly simplistic but that is an option. Many of us do not identify our options or are too afraid to take them and we spend time worrying when we should be executing. As much as our emotions are valid we also need to stay present and take quantum leaps towards our goals.

I see life as a battlefield. There is no room to second guess yourself. Irrespective of your mistakes you also have the chance to make your life better than it was yesterday. When most people think about 'better' they focus on material things. However, when you consider improvement in other spheres of your life you tend to know and appreciate where you are making progress. A little gratitude is all you need to motivate yourself into doing greater things. I believe the universe listens--God listens. And if you're intentional about anything--that isn't purely selfish--there is a high possibility you achieve them. And if you don't, you know you tried.

"Get it done or die trying. You cannot give up," those are the words I tell myself every time. When I am overwhelmed by the complexity of my situation, I push myself into the unknown. I would rather have it devour me than be my executioner.
