Talvolta l'autore non attribuisce alcun titolo ad una fotografia perché ritiene che non aggiungerebbe niente al significato di una immagine abbastanza comprensibile anche “senza titolo”.
Altre volte l'assenza di un titolo costituisce una provocatoria intenzione polemica o ironica.
Inoltre una fotografia presentata deliberatamente “senza titolo” suggerisce all'osservatore la necessità di prestare una attenzione particolare ad una immagine che può rivelare riferimenti allusivi e contenuti non del tutto evidenti.
