Health Goals 2020: Redux

At my health review this week I was told I was "very healthy". As I have written elsewhere, I asked the health practioner to say it again 😁.

I am so impressed that, in the middle of the demands and confusions of a global pandemic, we have a free at the point of use national health service that continues to provide ongoing preventative health care.

I had two reviews, one was condition specific and the other was a whole person review. The outcome of the first is that my condition is well controlled, I rarely have symptoms and it doesn't affect my day to day activities in any way. The outcome of the second is that I am "very healthy".

It was really great to hear this and, as I listened, I realised I was very healthy, especially if I thought back to the beginning of the year, when I posted my health goals for 2020. I was exhausted then after a trying year and here I am, six months later, only ever appropriately exhausted.

However, there was more to come: I was asked whether I had any health goals and whether I would like any support to reach them. I did indeed: I wanted to re-build the levels of physical activity, strength and stamina that I had previously.

So, I have a health trainer for six weeks, who will work with me to develop and use an action plan. We'll have a thirty minute call each week to check how I'm doing. The first one is on Wednesday and I've been asked to write my goals and my plan for discussion in the call. Again, I'm impressed that this is available in the middle of a pandemic.

The effect of the positive feedback from the review was profound and ironic. I've been riven with anxiety during the long weeks of lockdown (have I got it, how would I know, have I made sufficient provision if I get it etc etc etc). And here I was, quietly improving my health anyway. I've woken up smiling each morning since and I feel really good. "I'm very healthy", I keep saying to myself, Yes, I am.

I'm looking forward to the next six weeks.

I am so happy for you!!! Health is so important and one of the main reasons to not only feel bad because of the illness but also because of all the implications which easily can lead to depression or anxiety. So, again, I am absolutely happy to hear you feel better. And to have good medical care (now even more important than ever) is great (always when I write things like this I have to think of all other people who have different living conditions... sigh)
And I am so with you (still, or again :-DDD) with the goal to be more active (for me because of the migraine which seems after some studies to get better with intense endurance training... yeah a bit difficult because of the migraines, but I am on it).

I also read you last post, but did not find the right words to answer, so I do it now and here (still with only insufficient words): I am so sorry for your losses. Sometimes it feels if life betrayed us... I am one of these immature people who cannot accept death. I don’t want it to happen. I so want to take all the sad feelings away from you, but I know its not possible. I try to send you a bundle of sunshine and love and if you ever feel like you need someone you can pour your grief over, feel free to write/call <3 <3 <3

Thank you: it's nice to have some good news, isn't it?
I don't know very much about migraines, except that they can be so debilitating. Strangely, I did have several last year and the year before (from nowhere, I don't have a history of them), which coincided which changes in some medication. Everything seems to have settled down now, I am relieved to say. For each of us, it's about finding the best way we can to live as full a life as we can. Do you have a goal or a plan for being more active? Should we be activity buddies? 😂 I plan to post my goals and plan next weekend after I have discussed them with the trainer.
Thank you for your sympathy, I had a big response to these words, but I will save them for a post about the whole matter, then we can have a proper conversation 😘

Good your migraines are gone, that’s really something you do not need (especially medication induced). And I love the activity buddy idea ... I even remember we had a conversation about starting to jogg/run (in German there is no difference, we only have the word jogging, so I am not sure which is the right one in English).
For me ‚more active‘ means mostly trying to reduce the headaches. And this is said to happen after min 3 months of training. The results were made with people who run/bike/swim 4 times a week for 40 minutes each session. This is a lot (for me) not only do I have so often migraines, that it is hard to find the 4 days in a week where I can run and (as I think I already whined about) I have arthrosis in hands, feet and hips from dancing (or bad genes, who knows). THis makes me plan very carefully...
I started in March with a c25k app. A first for me, before I run completely planless. I am now able to run 20 minutes without break (very slow) but I am not getting better at this point (meaning running longer). My headache frequency is sadly the same, but I think the intensity has lessened. Now pain medication helps better. (Naturally I am not sure this cause or coincidences, but I will hope it really helps)
My plan so far is running 2-3 times a week and adding one session of weight training (to support the joints) and one on a stationary bike (to avoid further tear on my feet). The last two I still don’t manage... laziness, headaches, don’t like the bike .... excuses excuses.
Oh and I neglected mediation completely for the last year (could do it because of grief/sadness) and this I also want to start again.
This is the rough plan... not sure if anything resonates with you, but motivating and cheering each other is always helpful. I am looking forward to hear about your goals (I know, I only wrote about negative goals... aka stopping migraines, but it is so important for me)
And I sincerely hope I did not upset you with my comment, as I know from myself how hard it is to cope with grief. So I send even more sunbeams

Mmmm, pain-free is a positive goal :)

And I sincerely hope I did not upset you with my comment, as I know from myself how hard it is to cope with grief.

Not at all - I had a lot of thoughts, though.

So I send even more sunbeams

Very pretty - to you, too x

Good to hear you are healthy. I think the lockdown has made a lot of people consider their health. I have been doing extra exercise and have had more time in the garden to tend my crops.

Stay well, but have a !BEER anyway.

It is always great to hear that we are in good health and even better to have your own little mantra, 'I am very Healthy', this alone is so good for are well being and really does encourage us to look after our health more. x

A health trainer for six weeks - off to see if there's a follow up post on that!
I'm thinking I just need a physical trainer and more herbal remedies, fewer doctors and Rx pills.
Glad you got to hear the Dx HEALTHY!!!
