"Hands are the Light of the World" for a Powerhousecreatives Contest

Our Hands Are The Light Of The World

This is to be my entry into the contest created by @zord189.
Now, while it specifically says:

  1. Your photo (which MUST be taken specifically for this contest)

disclaimer

I am going to include two items from the past, because they are
ESSENTIAL to the whole gist of my post. I hope these two
Will not disqualify my entry

With our hands, we interact with the world, for good or ill.
It should ALWAYS be for good.

IMG_20200226_103739.jpg
With my hands, I can write/type inspirational poems. I can put
My thoughts down on screen or paper, so that others can
Enter my head (now THAT'S a scary thought 😜)

IMG_20200226_101712.jpg
My EYES can read the music written by someone hundreds of
Years ago, and my HANDS can recreate that beautiful sound,
But interpreted through the filter of MY life and MY experiences.

IMG_20200226_101726.jpg
I apparently have a 'green thumb', because I've always had plants
In my home, and for the most part, they've done well. So well in
Some instances, that I no longer had room to keep nor ability to
Care for them, so sadly I had to let some die, after I'd had them
for 10 yrs or more. That broke my heart.

IMG_20200226_102024.jpg
And yet I carry on, continuing to grow the ones I have, caring
For them, sometimes with a great deal of effort, expense and
Emotional turmoil!
I bought these plastic enclosures to save my plants from the
Cold, because I didn't have room indoors nor would my back
Allow me to move my big ole Dracaena’s.

IMG_20200226_102345.jpg
I've created works of art with these hands, most of which have
Been lost to the Vagaries of time and vengeful landlords.
This one is a recreation of a pencil drawing I did while in
High School, the only other one that still exists is a photo
of one of my pencil self portraits that I use in some of my
Footers.

IMG_20200226_110648.jpg
I Like to cook, but doing so for one is SUCH a bore, and leaves
One with leftovers which, if not eaten quickly, will be thrown
Out.
Wasting food is a sin, in my opinion. There are far too many
Hungry people in this world for me to do that with a good
Conscience.
Here comes the questionable entries

elephant nose-mustache.gif
I am an Entertainer, first and foremost. I've found my Niche in life
Bringing joy, smiles and distraction from the woes of the lives of
Elderly folks who have been institutionalized, whether it be a
Nursing home (such as this one with the "Elephant Nose") or

Jami Bruni April 2 2013(3).jpg
A Memory Care. I don't dance, but this lady jumped up and
Caught me off guard, so I danced. She was newly entered here
In this photo from 2013, I saw her again in 2019, she didn't
Remember me nor doing this dance, but we did another one
Just for that day.
So whether we are cooking for loved ones, making music to
Soothe ourselves or one another, or if we are simply extending
A hand in loving support and gentle guiding care to our older
Generations, our hands are the way we express ourselves to
Our world, its people and the plants and animals.
I hope you've enjoyed this presentation.

I hope not, I really did put a lot of effort into it, taking all those other images this morning

Thank you so very much @wonderwop, I really didn't expect to get mentioned.
I was hopeful though. I've only just gotten up, and having my first
Cup of coffee, so my head is still foggy.

Nice entry for the contest! I'm just the opposite of you when it comes to plants, and I even grew up on a farm. Me buying a plant is like it's been sentenced to death and I am the executioner. 😂

Good Morning @free-reign, over the years (but not so much recently)
I've gotten many of my plants saving them from people like you!😈
I'd go to someone's house, see a dead or dying plant, ask for it
Take it home and most often, in a week or so, I would have a
Healthy plant. Saved me lots of money! ha ha...

With our hands we can do wonderful things, which hurts that many use them for bad things

Great post. Hands are admirable fo all the things they allow us to do. We take most of tose things for granted until we can't do them. The hands of an artist are especially admirable.

Good Morning and thank you @hlezama!
One of my deepest, most cardinal
Fears all my life, has been to
Lose the use of my hands.
What a nightmare that
Would be for me, for
Anyone for that

Your hands must be very tired after all the cooking, arting, plant caring, piano playing, dancing, ... Despite the loss from nasty landlords and the memories forgotten by those you've touched along the way, What is happening now is what counts! I think your hands have a lot of good still left in them :-) [Virtual High Five]

When you come to think of it our hands are an extension of so many things in life.

Cradling a new born or holding the hand of a loved one in their last days, yes our hands tell stories!

Good Morning @joanstewart, if you think about it in 'computer terms' our hands are our main Interface with everything around us.
Oh sure, we see videos etc about artists and athletes who have no hands, and those stories are inspiring, but... think about this; it is said that Dolphins and Whales are as intelligent as us, but they have no hands, they can't manipulate their environments, they can't build monuments, temples etc... they don't have a CIVILIZATION, not one we can recognize anyway.
Thanks for your comforting comment. I appreciate it!

We are unique in many ways, however we perform similar to ants in problem solving as a society, they too build, organize, still one cannot call it a civilization.

You made me think a little here to respond at the end of the day, we will be more aware what we do with our hands.

Thanks Zac, I am puzzled by something. I just got home from being away since 2:10 pm EST, and I SWEAR I had more rewards accumulated on this post, but now it is only showing $1.20 (he says scratching head)
I am happy to be getting the comments though, and I appreciate that compliment @papilloncharity, appreciate it very much

Hahaha, I find the same thing my cuz and a $20 worth can drop to $16.50 or some such amount. I think they deduct according to the steem price of each day over the post's 7 day period and then once the post reaches 7 days, they deduct an additional amount.
These are just some of my observances and don't take it as gospel.
But I am sure that someone will enlighten us about the deductions in a post.
Blessings to you my bro!

That is my "Elephant Nose"
hv5u71.jpg
Years ago, right after I came back from the US Air Force, I was in an R&B band, we played mostly bars, and we all got drunk a lot.
I was elected (I wanted to) play all the love songs, mostly solo.
So I'd sit down at my keyboard and do "Lady" (for example) by Kenny Rogers.
Then when I'd finished and all the folks were leaving the dance from after all the "Belly Rubbing" I would say:
"And now, for something completely different" (shades of Monty Python)
I'd bend over behind my keyboard and put on a nose just like this one, and come back up.
It was hilarious!
Then if the crowd were sufficiently intoxicated, I'd take it and stick it in my groin, like I was hung like an elephant! That really got a laugh (because I'm not)
Thanks for commenting @brittandjosie

This is such a great post, @jerrytsuseer! It’s so true how much we do with our hands, and in fact it’s easy to take them for granted. It’s wonderful that you have such great hobbies and activities — including entertaining people. I know what you mean about plants. It’s terrible when we can’t keep them all green and thriving.

Thank you so much @jayna. I've only just now returned from performing in Decatur, it was a terrible drive there and back

Jerry E Smith This was a less that stellar day. It took me 70 min to drive 21 mi.
Construction, school buses and MARTA buses. I could normally go this same way and make it in under 45 min.
It took me almost 2 hrs to return just now

the people I was entertaining enjoyed it and we all had a good time, though I cannot think why they wanted me there today of all days.
It was supposed to be a "Family Meet and Greet" but I only saw one family person. I knew all of the people in the audience from past performances.

As for my plants, they are actually doing quite well, given the cramped quarters and the rollercoaster of temps; I have lights inside the plastic enclosure, but even with that and passive heat from jugs of water, the temp will drop down to below 40° only to rise again when the sun comes up to over 80°.
I really really hope I can dismantle the greenhouse and put it away for next year very soon.

I am alone and had to photograph one handed.

Hi @jerrytsuseer. It's me again. Great entry for the hands contest. But the one I love is you at the Elderly Care facility dancing with the resident. Showing your hands holding onto hers and bringing a smile to her face is something that should be done more often by everyone. I loved it. Thanks for sharing that moment.

This is a lovely publication that essentially captures the importance of hands and their participation in the love we give and receive. I really liked the weaving of words and the supporting images. But, that elephant nose, brought out smiles in me and that is a gain for the soul, the smile shows the sensitivity of the one who creates it and the one who reflects it. Thank you for that!

Oh my goodness, thank you so much @zeleiracordero. It warms my heart to hear you say these things. The elephant nose is my 'pièce de résistance' and I get many a chuckle out of it.
I enjoy my performances, and my audiences apparently enjoy them as well. Glad I brought a smile to you.
