Canada removes ban on blood donations from gay men
Recent report have confirmed that the Canadian health officials have finally decided to remove the ban on the blood donations from gay men.....Before now , there used to be an old rule in Canada which prevents blood donations from the men who have had sex with other men within last three months of giving blood...
There are also some Countries around the world that have been lifting similar bans in recent years...
So what this news means is that the prospective donors will no more be asked about their sexual orientation during the screening process of making blood donations..
The first time the ban occured was in 1992 and the ban took place as a measure to help the Canada as a country to prevent HIV from entering the blood supply , this was after there was a health scandal in the 1980s which made more than two thousand people to get infected with HIV and up to 60,000 with Hepatitis C via tainted blood donations ...
The UK also lifted its own three month ban on blood donations from gay men last year. France, Greece, Israel, Hungary, Denmark and Brazil have also recently lifted restrictions....

I'm surprised it lasted this long in Canada. What an odd thing to keep on the books.
