What Are You Looking At, Litte Bird?

(Edited)

Last Saturday, while I was out for a walk, I felt a presence staring at me... I looked back and at first I didn't saw a soul, not even a ghostly one... but then I saw some movement and there it was, this little bird staring at me.

He (or she?) kept following me with his inquisitive eyes, as if he owned the road and I shouldn't be there... 🤔

I don't know what gave him that idea, so I went back and confronted the little critter. I had to explain to him that was a public road and we live in a free country... I had as much right to be there as he did.

"If you didn't like it, you can simply fly away, for all I care." - I told him, at last. He seemed to understand and stop staring at me. 🤭

Here is the house we was watching me from. Can you spot the little bird on this shot?

I walked for about 5 hours only stopping to make some photos... I got a bit tired but it was an afternoon well spent. At least for my belly's sake. 😁

It's a male; male sparrows have that black throat and chest, females don't! ;)

Ah, that's interesting. How do you know those things?

Knowing about animals is actually my job 😉 But birds related, I've been birdwatching for over 20 years, so I've learned a few things! 😁😁

Nice shots considering it was quite a distance from where you were. You must be some sort of an eagle-eyed bird enthusiast to be able to spot him up on the roof lol. Thanks for sharing.

Ah, not really. I rarely take photos of birds, I was just messing up with the Zoom. 😆

Pensive little guy!

Sidenote unrelated to this post - So, I was half-asleep listening to a Lore podcast about nightmares and sleep paralysis around the world.

By far Portugal stood out to me. The podcast mentioned the Brazilian "Pisadeira" has its origins in a Portuguese folktale about a little guy named "Fradinho," who sneaks into your home and puts a heavy hand on your chest.

The folktale is called "Fradinho da Mão Furadaand," but I found little information about this tale and its relation to sleep paralysis. Almost everything I found is about the "Pisadeira."

So, if you take special requests, I'd love to see a post about this little guy who sneaks into your bedroom through a keyhole. Did you grow up with this tale?

No... I haven't. That's actually the first time I'm hearing about that. 🤣

Ha ha ha ha ha. Whenever Yuan spends some time on the balcony, he's usually watching the world go by down below. So when he comes in, I ask him how everything is in his kingdom, because ya know, it is his kingdom! :)
One time he was watching from the window and I heard someone call out, "Kitty! Hi, kitty!!" and he scooted around in the blinds in response. :D

Yeah, cats are usually unfrazzled like that. I love them and their general attitude towards people and life! 😻

It's a male bird, I've been told. Who knows? Maybe he's watching the worms from up there...

Oh really? Then I was wrong!
But how do one distinguish males from females?

This is what I've been told:

"male sparrows have that black throat and chest, females don't!"

Ohh yes, I see him in the last image. Guess and little extra zoom helps find the sparrow 😊

Lucky you. I've tried to take photos of birds several times but without any luck.
This one is cute.

Not sure where you live but these are common bush finches in America. Not sure of the actual name.

Sparrow is their name... or Pardal, in Portuguese. 😉

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

A lovely little sparrow keeping a close eye on you! Your photos of him are nicely done, and just so you know, he probably does own the road! 😀 Thanks for posting to the Feathered Friends Community!
