Intro to Hive Silver Bloggers - a New Blockbuster for Seasoned Buzzy Bees

(Edited)

They say that with age comes wisdom, but many of us here on Hive are experts in different areas.
According to the corporate world we have reached our sell-by date, but there is still a lot of life in these old bones yet.
So why can't we then not combine the wisdom of the silver wunder kids and help each other here in the brand new community called the Hive Silver Bloggers?

Beach Drawing1 (1).JPG

Painting by Peter Wink

Many of you may be close to retirement, and we'd also love it if you joined in as you could learn and see that life in fact gets even more exciting as you now have time to do the things you've never had time for.

So I'm sure you've gathered by now that the objective of the Hive Silver Bloggers is to bring together young-at-heart kindred spirits with a love of blogging and photography, keen to share life experiences and store it here on the Hive blockchain for future generations.

We'd also like to learn more about Crypto Currencies and that's where our seasoned Crypto Hodlers come into play, as many of us may know how to write, but have no knowledge about the world of Crypto.
Anyone between the age of 40 and 100 welcome to join.

How cool if one day a great great grandchild wanting to learn a little more about the adventures of great great Gramps or Grandma, can find them here, long after they've gone, as nothing stored on the blockchain will ever get lost.

IMG_20190530_132309.jpg

How often do we search for precious photographs stashed away in the attic and try and recall memories that have faded over time?

Stories are passed on from one generation to another, and by the time it reaches our ears, the tale has had all kinds of tails added with many twists and turns, nothing like the true story in the end!

Although you're welcome to blog on any topic you want to, the following are most suited to this community - Passive Income, Hobbies, Crypto for the uninitiated, Memories and Life in general.
We do encourage our members to continue blogging in specific existing communities relevant to their topic i.e. Natural Medicine, Foodies Bee Hive, Have You Been Here (travel related) etc etc.

We will be hosting rewarding Challenges from time to time, possibly taking you out of your comfort zone at times, but that's how we learn.
Rewards for this post will go back to the community.

IMPORTANT EDIT TO THIS POST

Notice - it's come to my attention that some bloggers thought this was seriously part of our rules, but this is a Tongue in cheek part of my post:
This is NOT a Geriatric Society so no talk of Dentures, Hearing Aids, Spectacles, Pills and the like will be tolerated; member will be muted if found guilty of this offence;)
We are a fun community and as the founder I am already 68 so of course many of the above-mentioned are part of my daily life!
Our proper rules can be found on our community page

I will briefly tell you about my journey and a couple of other talented Silver Bloggers.

@lizelle - Admin

I was a real Crypto Virgin when I joined the blockchain in July 2017, so was quite amazed when Hive came to my rescue during Covid lockdown as our Lily's Cottage BnB had to close down for a while.
I love blogging on food, with a story attached; local travel, natural health, our BnB and life in general. I've not only learned how to turn my Crypto earnings into rands and cents, but have also met many kindred spirits from all over the world!
Hive has become my passion post-retirement, I just love this blogging journey that fills the void left by retirement with new friends and extra income when I need it!

@papilloncharity - Our Moderator

Zac has become a well-respected figure in the Crypto world and his journey started in June 2017.
His photographic stories have become legend and he is also the founder of The Papillon Foundation, a famous charity that does great work with the poor communities in South Africa.
Zac is a real shining light here on Hive, a huge inspiration who gives hope to many.

@ericvancewalton - Author and Poet

Cryptocurrency and the Hive community have been nothing short of a Godsend to me.
Prior to joining the platform in 2016, I spent twenty-three years attempting to break into the walled garden of the traditional publishing world. Not one person would hold the door open for me. In the last five years cryptocurrency and the Hive community have given me the key to open that door for myself.
Since 2016 I’ve launched three self-published very successful books (soon to be four counting my newest book Ephemera) on Hive.
I quit my day job in 2017, began writing full-time and traveling the world.
Hive has given me the most valuable gifts I can imagine -- a worldwide network of good friends and the freedom to make a great living doing what I love.

@fionasfavourites

Fiona has been active in the blogosphere since 2014, when she started her own blog Fiona's Favourites, inspired by longstanding school pals.

In 2017 I was invited to join a social blockchain where, through blogging, I might earn crypto currency – just before the bull run ended. I fiddled about a bit, and two years later, I am still there, and post directly to the Hive blockchain using the Exxp WordPress plugin. I am part of a growing community that produces content and where I earn Hive Based Dollars. It’s not just the prospect of earning that keeps us there, it’s also, as is the case in the blogosphere, generally, the community of like-minded individuals one meets and the friendships that develop – in cyberspace – and which flow from the virtual into the real.
Fiona’s Favourites has evolved to the point that it covers a multitude of sins topics, musings and rants, ranging from my original focus – cooking – to life, and my participation in that crypto blogging world.

I look forward each week to Fiona's Friday Files to see what delectable fare she will have on offer for her Village Market Days.

I love this, Lizelle! Makes me realise I need to update my blogging journey. I have actually been on the blockchain nearly 4 years!

Thank you for your kind words!

I am calling over fellow silver Hiveans, @traciyork, @arcange, @richardfyates @snook, @joanstewart. I am sure I shall think of others.

I know I often say, I don't really "fit" into communities, but in this one, I feel right at home.

Please do let me know if I can help with this!

Awe thank you so much for sharing this with well-seasoned folk Fiona, and also for allowing me to share some of your Hive journey, funny I'm also a soon-to-be 4 year old Hivean as is @papilloncharity! The youngest Silver that I mentioned in this blog @ericvancewalton, actually is the oldest Hivean🙂🌻

A great post here Lady Lizzie and let's hope that this effort goes to the moon.

Now where are all of those 40 year and older hiveans? I can think of a few "youngsters" that might also pour their wisdom in here like the Austrian mountain goat @johannpiber
Then we also have the famous kp brothers @tarazkp and @galenkp and I am sure that the ladies @dswigle, @melinda010100 and their friends can jump in here.

Let's show the world the value and the wisdom that rests in the vaults of experience.
Everyone (above 40) is welcome to join this community, even "dummkopfs" like me.

I do hope some of those talented folk join in; a couple I can think of who may just make the age restriction - please forgive me if you don't;) and have not been mentioned are @bigtom13, @slobberchops, @farm-mom, @thebigsweed, @shaidon,@porters, @artemislives, @keithboone, @lenasveganliving, @barbara-orenya, @shadowspub, @goldendawne, @sultnpapper, @isabelpena, @pandamama and finally @sunscape

Who calls me a youngster here? But you are right, my friend, a mountain goat will never become old 🤣
If I did let my hair grow you would see more white hair than brown ones and they become more and more each day, so I think I suit to the silverbloggers I believe ... I have joined a minute ago 😀

Hahaha, oh yeah, a mountain goat does not get old, just more stubborn 😜

I think that you would look cool with long hair and a long beard, as you would look like Merlin.
Maybe give it a go once you have hung your gun up in the police service.

Thanks for joining up my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

Haha, yeah, I'm a bit stubborn, that's true 😁

Actually, a couple of years ago I have had long hair - they reached down over my shoulders, but one day I said "enough" and cut them ... I just didn't want to wash and dry them anymore every day 🤣 but it's much better now 😊

Only a bit stubborn? I will leave this here 😎

I think that you would have looked very cool with long hair.

Shorter is always easier Hannes and Marian cuts my hair on the number 2 setting with the machine.
Then I take the machine and I cut my beard and my moustache on the same setting.
Oh and also my eyebrows.

So, in the mornings, when I wash my face to wake up, I only wipe my head with my wet hand and then I am done for the day. Easy peasy 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Yes, leave it here because I am right 😂🤣

I just didn't like them anymore and I feel so much better now with almost no hair - I cut mine myself without any distance holder 😉

Sometimes I shave, sometimes I let my beard grow for a few weeks and sometimes I keep it short like yours.

Oh yes, always a pain with long hair to keep it neat. Amazingly I see many old guys walking around here with long hair. Maybe they are clinging to their young days 🤣

So, you cut your own hair and I hope that you don't charge yourself too much for cutting your hair 🤣
I don't suppose that you cut your euebrows as well, as mine grows like bushes and people say that I look scary 🤣

Oh yeah, I grow in winter and I cut in summer. My beard is not easy to cut with a rasor, as the hair is like wires and the stubble even pricks me when I sleep, so I try to keep it short.
Here's my winter outfit.

I hang this photo in the toilet to scare the flies away and naughty little children 🤣
Scary isn't it 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Ha, that looks like an old trapper from a western movie, but somehow cool :)
I would hang it also in the toilet, but in the office that the colleagues don't sit too long 🤣

No, I don't cut my eyebrows - only when a hair grows too long I will cut it.

Hahaha, yes a large poster size for the toilet one and you can place a caption on it, "You are relaxing here on company time and we don't like it" 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yeah, for sure Hannes and you will have a guaranteed fly free house 🤣

Hahaha, early days for the work on the forest on your eybrows. First there was only one hair scouting for freedom on each eye and they sent the message back that it is nice. So three others joined each scout to establish a community. Then soon they will have children and the children will have children as you age to become a forest 🤣

You should have been like a lion and scared the first scout out of his pants, then you wouldn't have this problem. Sit up all night with a plank as they are clever and come out when you sleep. So keep your eyes closed and when you feel him come out, then you can hit him with the plank 🤣
Such is life my friend!

Cheers and thanks.

Oh yes, I forgot to say that sometimes a hair grows on my ears - I have been really surprised when I saw the first one a few years ago. Now I always search for them ... they grow much faster than any other hair, I believe 😁

Your advice is good, but it comes a little bit too late, my friend 🤣

Oh, I love the bushes in my ears as at times when the bugs get cold, they can hide in it 🤣
The hairs in the nose is another problem, as when I grip them with my fingers and pull them out, they make my eyes water.
Poor Marian often thinks that I am crying and then I put on an act so that she can pamper me 🤣

Alas, yeah too late as the damage is done, so my heartfelt condolences to you in this case my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

There are nort so many around here, so I don't need any bushes in my ears and luckily my nose hair are still pretty much invisible 😎 ... but I know these watering eyes too, because sometimes a nose hair thinks it's a long head hair 🤣

Thanks a lot for your kind condolences, my friend 😁

Ah, so you also put on an act when the wife asks why you are crying 🤣
I normally say that I am crying because I have lost the car's keys, or my wallet, or for my first girfriend as it is sure to create a pandemonium in the peaceful house 🤣

So, wait patiently as they will appear and not so long you will see that they all think that they are a part of the hair on your head 🤣

Then you sill really appreciate my condolences 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

Well, I think in that case my weekly haircut session will last a little bit longer if I have to cut all these hair, but I won't need to cry anymore when the nose hair are cut instead of pulling them out 🤣

No, no, no, you don't cut those hairs Hannes.
If you do, then it means that you prune them for better and stronger growth 🤣

Best is to pull the hairs in the nose and ears out and then you make a special paste of chicken shit and balsamic vinegar to rub on the places where the hair was pulled out. This will frighten them to grow again 😉

Please note that this is not medical advice and in case of a divorce or injury, the author may under no circumstances whatsover be held responsible 😇

Well, my friend, our parents have told us that thing with the chicken shit when we were young and bit our finger nails. They said, putting that shit on the nails would stop us from biting them. They never did it, but there were other pastes which they bought, and I loved to lick them and then bite my nails 🤣

So, I don't think I'll go to a local farmer to ask for some shit of their chicken and will start again to pull the hair out 😉

Good morning again Hannes,

Yeah it seems to be a bad habit that stays with one, but gladly it is much better now.

Cheers and thanks.

When I want to add a photo to a comment or so I often use the photos I have taken with my phone - the phone is always with me and that's easier sometimes ;)

Hahaha, as you know my friend I never use the phone. Sometimes Marian will ask me to help her take a photo and I will click the thing, but that's it. Oh and I also take calls if it's for me, rarely because she screens the calls and answer any questions 😉

Keswick town is the place punted to rent a room in the Lake District and the photos of the area is mind blowing. Some mountain farm photos look very similar to here by us.
I see that it is close to Ireland, so a person could always pop in there as well to see the places where they filmed the Game of Thrones.

Cheers and thanks.

Slowly I'm becoming used of using the phone for doing more than only making calls ;) It's much easier and faster than to turn the computer on 😎

Right,, I am am back. Had to climb into the roof of a neighbor's house to fix an alarm that is faulty, as it keeps on going off.

Nope, I don't like the phone my friend and I don't think that I ever will, or maybe the phone doesn't like me. Any case we don't have a lot of time for each other.
I turn the PC on and while it's loading I am outside with my camera, then when I return it is ready to go 🤣

Ah! Croatia yes man, some place that I also want to see, but I have lost my bucket list. So will have to make a new one 🤣
You are lucky to be surrounded by so many interesting places. In my case if I was there, then I would never be at home and I would sleep in my van.
Maybe I would visit my wife once a month to play some rugby, just to keep the pencil sharp you know 🤣

Oh yeah, I would gladly give you a van if it was within my means.
But think about it like this. In a few years time a new world will open to you, as you will have a van and more importantly, you will have loads of free time.
I am sure that you can already start planning long trips to distant lands to go and explore.

And of course you will keep the wife happy with a visit every now and then 🤣

Hahaha, I have built many roofs my friend, so I am an old hand at it.

May your Saturday be kind to you.

A while ago I have bought a notebook and whenever I see a photo of a nice place I look where it is and write it into the book ... yes, I am already planning my life after working.
I also want to try to visit some of these places before I retire though.

I hope your Saturday will be nice too, Zac, maybe the bad weather takes a break over the weekend 🌞

Let me tell you that my daughter and her family has recently arrived in the UK, as you know and already they have seen more places than I see in a month. Today she sent me some photos of an Abbey somewhere and of Stonehenge.

My grand daughter won a dancing competition and she was entered into the great final dancing showcase in Ireland. So they will all be going there and then she promised me to pass through the Lakes District on their way back home.

So, if they can, just so you can visit many places before you retire my man, the thing is just to get that van. No reason why you and maybe the wife can't pop out on long weekends to exciting places.

Cheers and thanks.

You're so very right, my friend, anybody can do anything, and I am so happy that your family in the UK is doing so well. They are even go to Ireland? How cool is that 😁 the green island is also on my bucket list, but a little bit below the Lake District and the Isle of Man in Scotland.

Yep, we certainly can do it if we really want to - the biggest barrier is the time, of which we don't have a lot at the moment.

But we do have exciting places all around us and as soon as we all can travel again the people will leave and we will have these places for ourselves again ;)

Amazingly she also did speak to me about Scotland and apparently it is a few hour's drive from their place. So yeah, those kids are certainly going to get around.

We are also trapped for time here as the charity work keeps us bound, but sooner or later we will have to take a holiday, but it's not easy in the Covid season, so we will wait it out.

Not so very far away and you will have plenty of time my friend 😀
So just hang in there.

Cheers and thanks.

Yeah, there are many beautiful places in the UK. I like the so called "mountains" most - we call such little things hills 😂 but nevertheless they are beautiful.

I think we all are in need of some holidays - as you, I will wait a little bit till the Covid situation has calmed down.

Shame Hannes, you and I know real mountains and some of our ant hills here are bigger than the UK "mountains", but they also want to feel that they live on a mountain 🤣

They have now discovered that the Indian variant of the virus is also here in South Africa and none of us has yet been vaccinated. The government has laid the sole claim to vaccination purchasers and distribution and so as usual it is a very slow process.

Agreed that it is not a good time to venture into other places with this Covid around so let's wait and see what will happen.

Cheers and thanks.

That's why I said I like their mountains - they look great, especially with snow on top. And it would be cool to climb a couple of mountain peaks per day ;)

I have read that the vaccines might not help against die Indian variant. So please take care my friend.

Climb a couple of peaks a day 🤣 Just a morning's work for you according to the size of those mountains and well said 🤣

I just told JJ that we became members of the local nature reserve yesterday afternoon. The steep mountain trails are exactly what I need for excersize and so we took our first walk.
I will post the result in my second post today.

We stay well away from people my friend. But tomorrow we will continue to train the new 5 youngsters at Imibala, as we meet with them for two Thursdays every month. They are all free of Covid and we do the leaders training outside in the open air.

Thank you for the care and the same to you my friend.

Cheers and thanks.

Our mountain cabin is about 200 meters higher up than Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the UK 😀

Hey, that's cool Zac, now you can go there at any time you want and enjoy nature and mountain hikes.

And a mountain hike is exactly what I am planning for the long weekend. My backpack is packed and I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow morning because I need to ride to my parents on my bike. If the weather is not too wet I will go for a hike. Otherwise I will stay with my parents, but either way I might not be much online till Sunday, I believe.

Hahaha, you are indeed a true mountain goat my friend and yes, those UK mountains will be little hills for you 🤣

Oh yes and I simply have to increase my fitness levels Hannes. I know that I am fit when my pulse is maximum 54, but lately I am walking around with my pulse rate in the 60s.

All that you need to do is to relax my friend. Not to worry about work or anything else and your parents is the ideal way to start. I am sure that nature will be kind and allow you some walks.
Let's see how it goes and at least your parents will be happy 🙂

Cheers and thanks.

If the rain would stop I could go and test it out - I'm in a very bad shape after doing nothing in months.

I hav eno idea about my pulse or blood pressure or anything else, but I do know that my fitness level has to increase a lot - my backpack weighs 18 kilograms without water 🤣

Right, all I want os to forget work for a couple of days, and packing my backpack three times this morning has helped a lot 😎

Oh yes, getting back into some decent shape is always a struggle Hannes.
Thankfully I can't put on fat, as I have always been lean and skinny.
But I am put together with tendons and the tablets that I take causes muscle deterioration.
So yeah, like you I am also in a spot of bother currently.

Thinking about getting a smart watch. One of those things that display blood pressure and other things. Maybe it's time for you to also get one, as then you can see how fit you are at all times 🤣🤣

Amazing what can keep us occupied when we want to forget about work and that backpack must now be the best packed backpack in the world 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

I used to be really thin until I turned 40, but I'm far away from being fat - just a little belly and my weight is quite normal. Yesterday's hike has certainly burned a few more kilos ;)

Oh no, if I would have had such a watch yesterday I would have turned back home, because the watch would have been flashing red after hiking straight up the forest for about 1.5 kilometers.

Oh yes, it was packed quite well, but when I packed it again this morning after spending the night in the woods I couldn't fit all things back in again 😂

Hahaha, it all starts with the stomach my friend.

My trouble is the tablets that I take every day doesn't only weaken my muscles, but they also swell my stomach and my ankles. The doctors blame it on the Cortizone.
In your case you don't have these hassles and you are right as that walk and a few more like it will have you back into fine form very soon.

In that case you should get a watch with a resting period alarm my friend. But that will lso be useless, as like me you will also ignore the alarm 🤣
Btw. I don't wear a watch.

Why is that? Whenever one packs, everyting fits neat and tidy, but oh woe, beware the repack after an excursion, as then there are always spares that don't fit. Happens always 🤣

Cheers and thanks.

We have been talking about tablets before - they cure one effect, but all have side effects. I don't take any as long as I can.
Years ago, I have been wearing a watch on each of my arms, just for fun, but since quite a while I don't wear a watch anymore. If I need to know the time I have my phone.

Yep, it's always the same, although I ate something I had problems to get everything back in the pack ;)

Hahaha, thank you Lady Lizzy and yeah, that's the only way that I can describe it.
Until 1980 I had a full head of blondish hair, but after the bike accident I went through 6 operations and high powered drugs. The stress was high and 2 years in plaster also didn't help.
Subsequently I had more operations and I never knew that aneasthetics can make one's hair fall out.
A quack also told me that the pills could have an effect.

So yes, the medical fraternity are now sitting with all of my hair 🤣

The other day I went to the barber and after he had cut the sides, he asked me if he should comb the two hairs at the top into a middle path.
So, I told him no and just to leave them so deurmekaar 🤣🤣🤣

Nope, just an ordinary man that has made himself available to serve those that don't have Lady Lizzie.

Hahaha, that's why I hide those two precious hairs under a cap every day. One never knows when that South Easter wind has plans to remove my fringe 🤣

Those Silvers are all good friends that has shown their hearts to us and I am glad that they are all here. The future looks great for this community methinks 👍

Like many others, I fit the age requirement, being 71 going on 72.

After being aware of this new community from a reblog by @ericvancewalton who I have been following for years (and that I have met in one of the two SteemFests I have attended), I immediately ubscribed.

Although I am not a Crypto virgin, having bought my first Bitcoins in 2011), I will try to contribute with the little wisdom I have gathered over the year.

As I have already blogged about the story of my life, I will probably write some "Stories during my long life".

Awesome to see you here @vcelier, Eric is such an inspiration, you were fortunate to meet him in person. I will certainly read your story and look forward to learning about Cryptos from you, having started so early. I'm just s cook and love writing stories so have much to learn about the world of Crypto, but did learn last year that it's not just something that sits somewhere in the cloud, but can actually be turned into rands and cents when the right time comes along. Life stories are most welcome here too.
Welcome to the Silvers:)

I actually read your story last week and then this morning got around to reading about François Martin; it was brilliant! I always was an avid reader, have books all over the house; still prefer them to the Kindle;)
Of late though, with being busier now than during my years as a corporate worker, I don't get much time and my attention span has dropped drastically, but I found the story of François so inspiring that I went from one link to the next in no time! I saw in the comments that the character was loosely based on yourself; I see that kindness coming through in the way you have been supporting our Silvers; I salute you for that kind Sir!
Thank you.

We no longer are restricting it to 40 plus, younger folk with 'old souls' can join, although the topics need to be in line with Silver Bloggers.

Excellent and congratulations. I got started in the community last week with the proposed contest. It's nice to know that there is a space to share the experiences that gives the age and suddenly find a new hobby to learn that is one of my great passions. Greetings and many successes to all. 😊
