Silver Bloggers And Baby Boomers

avatar
(Edited)

Worth Your Salt

Who said Boomers don't want to contribute to society and the economy? Implying they are too old to learn technology used online today.

With a lifetime of knowledge and experience, still able to share with others, technology opens up borders in electronic format.

Many don’t want to simply play golf, sit by the beach, sipping tea/beers gossiping with friends.

IMG_6275.JPG

Boomers realize pension savings may not take them as far as wished through inflation/other shortcomings, or a reality check of having more to offer being at an age where years of experience still count.

Millennials work more into creativity, discovering hidden gems within technology and build. Older entrepreneurs normally looking for new challenges, offer something back for younger generation, feel purposeful going into golden years.

Silver vs Youth neither tread on each others toes as oldies tend to prefer creating businesses that serve.

IMG_6214.JPG

Millennials don't need to think outside the box, never having been in it, whereas Silver Bloggers find ways of incorporating what they learned in the box finding means of expressing outside the box going into entrepreneurship. Who had the right to close the lid at age 60 or 65 years?

Twenty years ago entrepreneurs were considered only younger generation, today almost equal with many wishing to continue sharing knowledge gained over years in employment or running small business on their own.

Pandemic forced many into early retirement, business felt side effects of trained personnel assisting new generation into positions held for years, a void needing voice of assurance moving forward.

SA_Hive_LineBreak.png

Why?

Why Silver Bloggers; After being retrenched in 2008, years ahead of retirement I took to the internet, learned blogging online through a paid tutorial run by an Australian and New Zealander (born in South Africa), simply called "Become A Blogger", followed up with a couple more paid courses in Marketing, joined Women in Business, Durban for monthly meetings.

Things changed after a close hijacking returning from a meeting in Durban, I seriously thought why put yourself at risk when everything can be done online? Software is available to join forums and places to share ideas locally and internationally.

IMG_6061.JPG

Web2 all the way 2009-2017, spider web marketing connected using many platforms. Started helping build similar reward system social media, landed up with a dishonest experience in Troll #1. Moved across to what was then Steem, another distasteful online experience, fortunately our Witnesses made a hasty move creating Hive.

Hive may not be the only site with others available, for me now Hive is home base, the necessity of running a private blog became tedious in finding time to reinstate after incident with first Troll dilemma. Moved with everyone on second incident, very wise move at the time!

IMG_6295.JPG

Once able to overcome learning hurdles in social media, one can always teach an old dog new tricks!

Hey ho Silver Bloggers we stick to same type of talk, understand each others woes and share. Like a new bride with something old, new, borrowed.., never always original, keep the blues at bay.

Bright young minds, definitely not willing to give up learning, or throw in the towel long before my time! - Silver Streak signing out, Streak was my Grandmothers maiden name 😂

The people doing V2K with remote neural monitoring want me to believe this lady @battleaxe is an operator. She is involved deeply with her group and @fyrstikken . Her discord is Battleaxe#1003. I cant prove she is the one directly doing the V2K and RNM. Doing it requires more than one person at the least. It cant be done alone. She cant prove she is not one of the ones doing it. I was drugged in my home covertly, it ended badly. They have tried to kill me and are still trying to kill me. I bet nobody does anything at all. Ask @battleaxe to prove it. I bet she wont. They want me to believe the V2K and RNM in me is being broadcast from her location. And what the fuck is "HOMELAND SECURITY" doing about this shit? I think stumbling over their own dicks maybe? Just like they did and are doing with the Havana Syndrome https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon

And here I learn something new about you. What a heartfelt post @joanstewart! If only the gaps between each generation didn't seem so immense. My step son has an international job in gaming. When I first heard how successful he is and how big gaming is I was totally blown away. How can that be a JOB?!! What ever happened to normal jobs? Well done on overcoming the cyber hurdles. I still battle with them.

Learning every day, one common denominator is we putting our best foot forward tackling new and sharing what we learn. Some in younger generation really make bold moves building lives for themselves completely through new technology, exciting to watch a learn from them.

Thanks for sharing about your blogging experience, Joan.

I think there isn't an age to stop learning. You are right. It's the way to keep our minds young.

I love the thought for today, you have shared.

Learning to put up ones own blog was a fun challenge, met a local lady through the first course who is well known over here in Marketing. We shared ideas, growing through a few more online courses together in QR Codes, new technology coming out, attended local business meeting together.

Next moved across into learning Mobile Marketing with Kim Dushinski online, importing hard copy of her book when our postal services still worked.

No time to sit idle, technology is ever changing, learning is ongoing. Sharing to the youth who face careers without many long standing people in workplace, is of value to them gaining insight they may have missed. We learn from them all the time!

Each birthday just means another number so I never feel old. It is just my way of seeing life and to me it is meant to be a never ending fun adventurous learning about new technology advances or ways of doing things. So no I don't feel an old Silver Blogger but like you relate very well with this Community. I feel belonged too.
Always nice to drop by @joanstewart.

Those numbers sure creep up on you, suddenly one day you realize they referring to you as being 'ancient" exactly the same way we felt at 20 😃.

Full jug has no purpose, pouring out knowledge from old the make space for new, an ongoing experience in learning.

Have a great day and thanks for sharing your kind words.

Many don’t want to simply play golf, sit by the beach, sipping tea/beers gossiping with friends.

This is very true. Many boomers are very productive and active as they can be and contribute to advancement too. It is amazing how we evolve with time and we keep learning too :)

Embraced technology from young, lived through old bookkeeping machines with tapes sent to be converted overnight at computer company.

Many years later found myself doing A+ Exams to get up to speed (still corporate employed) due to change over in computers with Y2K scare.

First opportunity of buying a computer for the home long before internet I grabbed the opportunity for family to become familiarized, called her 'Betsy'.

Long steady path of progress over 45 years, with one reminder try to always learn what is happening in the background, never trust a machine.... long path!

Always enjoyed never knowing what will arrive next 😂

Lovely post and photos and interesting information about you and how you became a Hive blogger 😊

Some very energetic eighty year olds love/live on their computers here, slightest problem they phone, either my son or myself to assist them. (Sons little business is hardware/software related, I am the back-up 😄, apprenticeship all over again....)

Going into blogging was a great challenge, rewarding in many ways opening one up to more challenges and changes, technology has not been quiet in some time, has it?

!LUV for great Mother, wish her happy Woman's day today and not to forget Wife and Daughter!
!BEER I know!
!WINEX with supper.... A !PIZZA to chomp on, personally I would enjoy cheese fondue!

When I think back to the eighties and the first computers we have had back then at school I can definitely agree - technology hasn't been quiet in the past decades.

My wife has got a chocolate from me and I have been phoning with my daughter for quite a long time today. She is in quarantine - second time Covid 😑 she hates it because she wants to go to school.

But my mother still doesn't believe me that she can type an URL into the address field of the browser to get there faster instead of typing it into Google and click on the search result 🤣 !LOLZ

!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner, although a cheese fondue sounds delicious too

Computers were not in schools here in 1990's, private tuition excessively expensive so when offer came up at place of work, paying off over a year I took the offer so the family could all learn.

We don't really celebrate as such, no one remembered in my home..., well totally outnumbered by men what did I expect 😂

As long as Mom finds a way it doesn't matter, after all she gets there doesn't she?

We have had a few to learn accounting and we also have learned programming simple math games and such, if I remember right.

If I had not read it on Twitter I wouldn't have known it and the chocolate for my wife was just one I had in my desk which I would have given her anyway 😂 !LOLZ

Yep, you're right, I just hate it when people click too many times to get to the same result 😁

First 'computer machines' I came across were adding machines and teller tills, then onto bookkeeping machines long before home computers.

Short cuts do not stick with some, they always take the long route, perhaps they know something we don't...

Another rainy day, hope you got some sunshine to warm the bones!

We have also had these bookkeeping machines and I wouldn't know anymore how to handle them 😉

Yep, some right click and click on "copy" and some click Ctrl+c to copy - people who have much time take the long way, I believe 😁

I'm on nightshift again, but the sun has been shining nicely today 🌞

Night shift sometimes a blessing you have time to see the sun for a short while.

Old machines sure knew how to give you strong wrists and fingers with heavy duty button pushing or cranking of some sort!

Short cuts to get the job done, whichever you fancy you use, I still prefer a gaming keyboard being a touch typist, yet some sit one handed with a phone quite relaxed....

24 hours shift plus 8 hours in the office today - I am quite tired today and nowhere to sit except at my desk 😴

Oh yes, it was real work back in the days 😅

I prefer keyboards too and it takes ages to type on the phone like at the moment 😂

Hope you're having a great day Joan 😊🌞

Good morning Joan,

yep, we didn't have much snow down here in the valley this Winter, but as every year it will certainly snow once more before the Spring arrives.

It is an unusual surname, my Mom did a small family tree on her side which I eventually found. I now know where they landed coming into South Africa and some of extended family names I never knew.

Very difficult in a country where records have not been kept, I managed one on an Ancestry site (blog eventually closed down). Then built one on powerpoint which I shared within the family. Nephew took up the reigns and added more detail, he was able to find and add to a larger Ancestry site.

Wow, what a #bom! You've touched on so many truths here about us Silvery folk Joan; we get discarded despite all the know-how and less distractions when little ones fall ill! Just doesn't make sense BUT with age, comes wisdom, we learn to adapt, and how liberating when we find ourselves happier and better off in so many ways. Sometimes we're forced because we've reached our 'sell-by-date, and then wonder why the heck did we not do this sooner! That highjacking must have been terrifying, but look how you've turned it into a positive, well done!

For sake of health and sanity I do believe being retrenched early did me a favour at the end of the day, although at the time after years of service one does feel it to be a kick in the teeth. Many had to face the same fate in South Africa with BEE coming into being, no use feeling sorry for oneself, dust off and get going again...., because that is who we are!

When that "sell-by-date" arrives I have no intention of being recyclable, use up every little I have in enjoying each moment before 'star dust' sets in, next step after being a silver blogger 😁 !LOLZ
