It seems I suddenly got old...

(Edited)

If you're an older Hivean who is young at heart or an old soul in a young body, then you might like this post. But really, this post is for you, my new friends in the Silver Bloggers group.

GIF from here

Our mutual friend, Fiona, who you know as @fionasfavourites invited me to come and check out your community. When she did I was simultaneously tickled pink and, to be honest, mildly horrified.

GIF from here

Am I really old enough to join a "Silver" bloggers community??? 🤷🤷🤷

Well, I read your pinned posts and... ahem, it seems I am!

GIF from here

It's funny because I had already seen several awesome people who I admire and appreciate mention Silver Bloggers over the last few months as I learn to navigate my way around this whole blockchain thing. But I assumed I was too young.

Noooooooo. Surely I'm too young???

GIF from here

Who am I kidding? I'm 40. And a half. Not that anyone's counting months, right?

GIF from here

But it's strange because I don't feel like I'm 40.

I talk about young people stuff, like changing the world 🙌

And I do young people things, like dancing in my kitchen 💃

And my favourite people to hang out with are toddlers because they haven't been taught to "be polite" and "not stare at people" (yet).

GIF from here

But as I entered 2022 and approach my 4th full month on Hive I knew it was time for me to work out which communities are a good match for me instead of being such a 'drive by blogger'.

GIF from here

So while I have no real idea if Silver Bloggers is a natural match for me, I figure there's only one way to find out. And that's to come and play with you all 😀

So, hi!

GIF from here

I'm consciouscat, also known as Caroline.

I really like:

running in the bush, climbing things (actual, physical things, not career ladders), challenging the status quo, questioning my own beliefs about how the world works and pondering what's possible while I actively attempt to create a better world (along with everyone else working towards this aim) 🌏😍🙏

I'm really good at:

communicating complicated ideas simply, writing epic stories about adventures I've been on, being present with people who are processing something really challenging ("holding space") and loving on people 💛🧡❤️

I'm really bad at:

writing brief posts, being efficient and being anywhere near as funny as my partner, Brad 😄😅🤣

I really love learning about:

Human Design (and other personality profiling tools), EFT tapping (and other psychological tools that help us to change limiting beliefs about ourselves and resolve trauma), and gut health & the gut microbiome (mostly because I've had oodles of food/health/gut challenges!) 🍌🍓🍆

And I know I really need to learn about:

finance, investing, crypto... and Spanish (I'm sure I need to learn Spanish. I've been dreaming about it for years!)

GIF from here

That's enough about me for this post (and that's definitely enough GIFs for one... year 🤣). I look forward to getting to know this community and see how ya'll operate. (I'm not from the U.S. I just like the word "ya'll"; it's so useful!).

And if you're an older Hivean who is young at heart or you're an old soul in a young body, then you might like to check out the Silver Bloggers Community. I'm sure they'd love to have you, even if you never put a single GIF in a single blog post, ever 😉

Conscious Cat, over and out!

I'm not sure I've ever felt the age that I actually am... but yeah, I totally agree it's tricky to find the groups you really gel with on any type of social media, but particularly one that doesn't try to algorithmically shoehorn you into groups/content it thinks you'll engage with.

This photo of you might be the smiliest photo ever.

*Bows. 💃 Why, thank you Sir 😃 (Clearly, credit to the awesome mate who took the photo!)

How long have you been on Hive, Adam? Have you found groups in here that you really gel with and want to hang out in?

I've been on Hive for about 4 years... so the communities I gelled with over that time have changed and evolved quite a lot. A big majority of people I interacted daily with aren't on the platform anymore, which is a huge shame for me, but totally natural.

Personally though, I've found that leaving comments on people's posts that I really enjoy, and then interacting with the other commenters the best way to go.

Makes a lot of sense. I've been finding the same; I notice who vibes with my posts and leaves genuine responses and if we naturally have an enjoyable conversation in the comments then they become the names I watch out for.

Even better when I find that I vibe with their posts as well. Then it loops endlessly, deliciously, back and forth. That part is still evolving for me.

And I guess, like you, if I hang out long enough on here then who I spend time with will evolve also. I'm assuming that the Steem > Hive upheaval and migration causes a lot to leave?

Honestly, I think the Steem vs Hive battle probably brought a lot of people back.

I think there is always going to be a natural churn of people on various platforms... even Facebook and Instagram have lost so many people to Snapchat and Tik Tok, etc... but I think part of it comes down to the motivation of the people here. I like Hive because I know the people and it's nice being rewarded, but it's also frustrating for people when they put a lot of effort into a post and it's ignored, and then compare against other much higher earning posts (potentially not realising those other authors might have been around for years).

Personally if I had to choose between comments or upvotes on a post, I'd pick comments every time.

BTW, @new.things tells me you've been vegan for 4 years? Is that right? Whole food, plant based or just "I don't eat animals but I'll eat packaged/processed stuff"?

I ask because we've been making changes to our diet in line with more WFPB and am, like you, wanting to stay as fit, strong and healthy throughout the process as possible so my athletic endeavours thrive rather than suffer.

Wellllllllll.... I was vegan for 4 years but I'm slowly opening up to the thought of getting more protein in, so I've introduced eggs back in.

The respect towards animals is definitely a big part of it. We have 4 sheep on our property and love them dearly... I've been eating mostly whole foods, and essentially have been eating the exact same thing for breakfast and lunch (no dinner) for the past 2 years... but I also wouldn't say no to something processed once in a while. I want to be healthy but I don't want to obsess about it either. I've been extremely strict with my diet in the past, and it does cause stress to myself and the people around me which I worry undoes some of the good.

Hmm, definitely don't need to add eggs back in for protein. Only yesterday I was seeing extremely ripped, strong, healthy and able photos of Simon Hill and two of his buddies who looked like they'd stepped out of a body building mag on Insta. Simon = vegan for years and teaches about the protein in plant based diets.

Adam, we've been taught so many mis-truths about food. There is plenty of protein available in plants. You don't have to eat eggs (or animals) if you don't want to. You may just need a tad more plant diversity than you're getting, because we're not supposed to eat the same meals again and again and again.

We're not? I thought the body found it easier to process foods it's used to seeing as through most of human history people only had access to a limited variation of food.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look Simon Hill up!

Oh my god, how you made me laugh. 😂
I don't know if I can be of much help with investments, cryptos, and finance, but when you want to speak Spanish, I'll be glad to help you. And I don't know if I should say it, but I think after reading this and getting over the dizziness because of the gifs,🤣 this is your place. Saludos!

PS: I'm Eliana :)

¡gracias Eliana! 😃

I'm so glad I made you laugh 😅😁😂 !LOL

Spanish, noted! God knows how long it's going to take me to get around to this goal (I have things much higher on my priority list, though it seems it's been that way for... my whole adult life 😆). But I keep coming back to it again and again, so some part of me must think it's important! 🤔😊😎

What a lovely post, and I do enjoy your Selfies - you always look so full of life and joy. It’s great that you can so easily list your own pros (and cons). You’re interested in so many things too, and you pull us all along for the ride. Great stuff❤️💕❤️💕❤️

Oh, such kind words @itsostylish 🙏 Thank you, sister 😊

I think I could have made both lists longer, but I made myself stop because @new.things is forever (jokingly) reminding me that my posts are epically long ✏️✏️✏️

I realised I included a "I like" list but not a "I don't like" list.

Here it is > I don't like:

discrimination against people (I believe everyone has something valuable to offer if we can see past our differences and give them a chance to show us their brilliance), being close to people when they're really angry (I find this really hard, but I'm working on it because I always want my clients to be able to express all their emotions in sessions, not just the ones I'm comfortable with) and brussel sprouts (but I'm finding new ways to cook them so they don't taste so bad!)

I have nearly twenty years on you and I don't feel a day over...ahem...20! In my soul, anyway! And, FYI, I still love headbangingly loud music and if I can't dance in my kitchen (where I happily spend a lot of time), life's, well, ummm...you know...

When @lizelle asked me to join the team, I had much the same response - except I probably dropped an F-💣 or two, especially since I don't have a head of silver hair and it's going to eons before I retire. Seriously, though as an older hand on the blockchain (hahaha!), I hated it when "they" introduced communities. I couldn't find a fit. I write about stuff. And if its food, there's a whole lot more, besides. (when I get round to those longer ruminating rambles - yes, I like alliteration). When I'm in it, I will rant, relflect and well, just write what I like (with no apology to Steve Biko). I dropped into a few and just, well, didn't feel at home. In Silverbloggers, nearly anything goes: a bit like life and, even if I say so myself, we seem to be a nice, kind bunch. I like that. Hope you hang around and join us on Discord.

PS The Husband (who, incidentally, is just shy of 75) and I are known to be first (and last) on the dance floor at parties. And yes, we did dance the New Year in. It's how we plan it to continue 🙂

I adore this, Fiona. So much. It's good to know you're another person who is partial to the occasional f 💣. In private spaces I use this word often, but I'm learning to be a bit more discerning about not using it so much in all public spaces (though I would love to) because of just how many people get offended! Such a bummer; it's genuinely one of my favourite words 🤣🤣🤣

Totally love that you also dance in your kitchen and could out dance most young chickens on the NY dancefloor. No wonder I like you so much 😄

I didn't talk about retirement, but I definitely am one of those people who wants my work to (continue) to be so engaging, enthralling and energising (I match your alliteration 😉😃😆) that I don't plan to ever "retire".

Thanks for invite to Discord. I am actively avoiding the platform for now as I still feel really maxed out learning about Hive (and ecency, and peakd, and exhuast, and how to search for epic GIFs 😜) that I'm just... pretending it doesn't exist... until I'm ready. But it's good to know there's a Discord group? community? space... for Silver Bloggers.

Bye for now!

LOL, just what I needed to start the day Olivia, I looove your humour!
Please stay with us, many here aren't silver yet, all on the way there though so there's no escaping that bit...But guess what, many of us silvers still see ourselves as young, despite the aches and pains, but nothing stops us from also letting our hair down😉🙃

Haha. I'm guessing it has more to do with being a speedy Silver who is trying to stay on top of running a whole community (+ whatever else you're up to on Hive), right? 😉😄😊

Look forward to seeing what magic you create in here @lizelle! !LUV

I love that picture of you, first of all. Secondly, if you're 40 and can join, does that mean I am also a potential silver blogger???
Also, I can't seem to write brief posts! What constitutes a brief post, really? I keep posting things that seem to be at least "5 minutes read time." I do struggle to read long posts, but am always creating them. Funny how that works.

Becca, if this group feels like a good space to you then I'm sure you'd be welcome.

This is what was shared (in this 'pinned post', or whatever you call it on Hive!) just 4 days ago:

A community for retired and aspirant retiree bloggers, seasoned and wannabe crypto hodlers.
The Silver Bloggers’ community brings together young-at-heart kindred spirits and younger 'old souls'. The golden threads, in addition to a love of blogging and photography, are –

a keenness to learn more about blockchain and crypto – we’re not digital natives – most of us were born before the PC was imagined; we ask “stoopid” questions

a compulsion to share our life experiences for storage on the blockchain for our children and children’s children

musings and memories of lives lived – the happy and the sad, the long and the short

planning for life beyond formal work – from leisure and travel to second (or third…) careers, hobbies that can supplement pensions and just what keeps “un” working people busy

While I don't match every aspect of what's above, I do match parts of it, and the space feels good to me on initial poking around 😄

I was most willing to check it out because like to be reminded of this:

  • as we age we can still be playful
  • as we age we can still learn new things, and
  • many people older than me have a lot they can teach me about life

So I'm here to learn and play. And as someone who is officially a "Silver Blogger" (because I wrote one post in here and joined the community 🤣) let me cordially invite you to come write your "at least 5 minutes to read" blog posts in this community 😉

You have met a good egg in Fiona. That one is young at heart as well, think it's the best way to be! Glad you have found a community that's right up your alley!

As long as you're having fun in life then you're winning it in my view! Seems like you're doing that as I was laughing through your post 😁

Bhahaha. Gold! I wonder... how old do I feel?

Ha! I think it depends on whether I'm feeling tired or playful or excited or... where my focus is. Isn't that interesting?

So right now I feel like I'm about 22. Which is fine with this 40 year old :P

Thanks @joanstewart. I'll admit, I was looking for posts from my childhood so that the references would make sense to this audience. But also, I think anyone my age or older who is willing to try new things and get on brand new types of platforms (such a cryptocurrency and web 3.0) must be young at heart and may well get references to current things that young people talk about too 😉😄😂
