Paper Wasps in my Garden [EN] // Avispas Papeleras en mi Jardín [ES]
After the rains it is common to find some wasps and even bees perched on the leaves of those plants that collect some small drops of water, and I have been lucky enough to capture a couple of small paper wasps in a couple of these plants. I managed to capture them in their water drinking task and the best of all is that they are not of the same species, as commonly in my garden I find some black paper wasps that have one of the strongest stings of their species, and being honest, I don't like to even get close to them.
These small paper wasps or cartons as they are also called, reach a length of between 2 and 2.5 centimeters, however, in the case of this first yellow wasp that I show you, not even 1 centimeter long. This little one was drinking water from the corn stalks that Mi Mathias planted in a school activity months ago hahaha.
After at least about 20 attempts, I only got these three decent pictures, if we see it in detail, it would appear that the wasp is entangled between the corn stalks, however, minutes later I passed by again and it was no longer there.
Today in the morning I met this little one, that in the same way was taking water from the small bowls that are formed in the leaves of one of my mother of thousands of plants, this little potter wasp, besides taking the water to hydrate, usually takes it for the manufacture of their nests, and is that in this case, these little ones are making a small nest under the roof of the upper floor of my house.
I tell you that I have spent much of the day reading a little about a large number of wasps and the truth is that their social habits are something quite peculiar, these species of paper wasps, live in hives of about 50 wasps, unlike others that can live in much larger communities, such as the black wasp that can have thousands of these in a hive, and also have the strongest and most painful sting within the family of paper wasps.
It is common to see paper wasps in the garden and you will usually find a single or a pair of them in the case of flowers in the garden, as these are also pollinators, and tend to do their daily activities alone.

Luego de las lluvias es común encontrar algunas avispas e incluso abejas posadas en las hojas de aquellas plantas que recogen algunas pequeñas gotas de agua, y he tenido la suerte de capturar un par de pequeñas avispas papeleras en un par de estas plantas. Logre capturarlas en su faena de beber agua y lo mejor de todo es que no son de la misma especie, pues comúnmente en mi jardín encuentro unas avispas papeleras negras que tienen una de las picadas más fuertes de su especie y siendo sinceras, no me gusta ni acercarme si quiera a ellas.
Estas pequeñas avispas papeleras o cartoneras como también le llaman, llegan a tener una longitud de entre 2 y 2,5 centímetros, sin embargo, en el caso de esta primera avispa amarilla que les muestro, no llega a tener tan siquiera 1 centímetro de largo. Esta pequeña se encontraba tomando agua de las barbas del maíz que planto Mi Mathias en una actividad escolar hace meses jajaja.
Después de al menos unos 20 intentos, solo obtuve estas tres fotografías decentes, si la vemos en detalle, parecería que la avispa esta enredada entre las barbas del maíz, sin embargo, minutos después volví a pasar y ya no estaba allí.
Hoy en la mañana me encontré con esta pequeña, que de igual forma se encontraba tomando agua de los pequeños cuencos que se forman en las hojas de una de mis plantas de madre de miles, esta pequeña avispa alfarera, además de tomar el agua para hidratarse, suele tomarla para la fabricación de sus nidos, y es que en este caso estas pequeñas están fabricando un pequeño nido debajo del tejado de la planta alta de mi casa.
Les cuento que he pasado gran parte del día leyendo un poco sobre la gran cantidad de avispas y la verdad es que sus hábitos sociales son algo bastante peculiar, estas especies de avispas papeleras, viven en colmenas de unas 50 avispas, a diferencia de otras que pueden vivir en comunidades mucho más grandes, como por ejemplo la avispa negra que pueden tener miles de estas en una colmena, y que además poseen la picada más fuerte y dolorosa dentro de la familia de las avispas papeleras.
Es común ver a las avispas papeleras en el jardín y por lo general encontraras una sola o un par de ellas en el caso de que hayan flores en el jardín, pues estas también son polinizadoras, y tienden a hacer sus actividades diarias en solitario.
