Teletuesday - An Old Post Punk Style Song

avatar

Here's an old original post punk style song for #teletuesday. I built the song around a drum track by Jim Dooley starting out with my Musicman Stingray 5 Bass. Then I added a track on my G&L Comanche with some drive and reverb via my Axe FX 2The final track is on my G&L ASAT with a quarter note delay on it as the lead. I was inspired to make this song when I was stuck on a slow train coming home from work early. I thought I would have a nice half day to spend and then the stupid train ends up being delayed by a freight train. To ease my boredom I started making a timelapse of the ride by holding my cellphone against the window.

I chose the ASAT as the lead because it has quite a bit of treble from its soap bar single coil pickups so they cut through a mix pretty well.

I love the bridge on this guitar, the nice rounded corners and heavy block of metal help with sustain. There's even a hex key that pushes each saddle together to make the whole bridge more solid.

I used to not like the headstock shape, but its finally grown on me. Now I have four G&L guitars.

This is a 30th anniversary era guitar from 2010. Leo Fender and George Fullerton founded G&L after they sold the Fender brand to CBS to continue testing out interesting guitar technology like the weird bridge and fat no hum soap bar pickups.

This guitar also has a cool sparkly pearl finish, its hard to capture this finish in a photo.

Was it a stingray or a bongo. I love how well built musicman basses are.

Hopefully its in good condition still. I remember trying all sorts of basses in the stores before finally deciding to get a stingray. I almost got a bongo but the shape was a bit weird ergonomically so I ended up with the stringray.

Probably - She's German, and keeps everything Perfect,
So I am sure.
Real nice bass, someday I may get another...
At the moment, I was thinking about "cigar box"
Guitars. Do you have any knowledge of those?
I might even start a little production line...
🤔🎸😁

I just have one cbg made in Russia by captain nemoff. I usually go to St. Louis each year to the cigar box guitar festival to watch Justin Johnson play. They also have booths setup with lots of home-made cbgs. There are even some cigar box basses too.

You know....
I was thinking about making a line myself!
But...
Here is what got Me into it, I know this is an
Oil Can, but She also has a cbg collection!
Enjoy!
Best shit I've heard in Years and the energy is Awesome!
She also has a Custom "Fish" guitar.

Cool song and a gorgeous guitar. I will have to check out the ASATs next time I can. I've seen some at a guitar show I've been to with @stav, but that's not happened last year or this.

The thing about GL guitars is they are pretty inexpensive for the quality you get, especially buying them used. I've had my eye on some 80s era skyhawks but I probably need to get rid of a few quitars to make room for anymore.

Really nice way to entertain yourself on the train. Your are skilled music maker...splendid looking guitar.

Train songs have always been popular. Jimmy Rodgers of the 1930’s had some train songs, “Waiting for a train” and “Hobo Bill’s last ride”

I'll have to try and learn one of those train songs on my banjo.

Yes I think it would make a great post. Jimmy Rodgers only had a guitar and had some songs still sung by artists today.

Wow! Great job!

The layers go so well together! Also, the quarter note delay was a great choice for this one. Really cool effect! The video is great too!

And, of course, awesome guitars! Congratulations!

Thanks :-) I love playing notes between a dotted delay, makes you sound like you are doing twice as much work.
