parkrun: Backwards

I just finished a 5.077km running that lasted about 0hh:27mm:31ss !

Letchworth parkrun celebrated their second anniversary by running the course in the opposite direction. They also encouraged people to wear their shirts backwards, which I did, but I do not think anyone ran backwards. I cycled there as usual and logged the rides on my Garmin watch. I did not even take my phone. @exhaust only picked up the ride home from Strava and I had to import the GPX file for the run. I will not do posts for the rides as well.

The weather has been mild, but damp, this week and so the course has not dried out at all. I expect all those runners just churn it up. My trail shoes were already caked in mud at the start from the playing field. We set off on the footpath, but it was soon onto the muddy tracks. Some people go off so quick. The usual muddy patches were almost impossible to avoid. I jumped some and splashed through others. It was nice to run down the big hill for a change and that was mostly quite firm. Just had to be careful at Carnage Corner at the bottom where we turn onto the farm track. That is largely uphill, but not too steep.

I overtook a few people and I am not sure anyone came past me for most of it. I was not going all out as it was unlikely to be a great time. The mud just saps your energy. My official time was 27:22 and that actually brings my average down a little. It was my 21st run at Letchworth, where I started my parkrun journey. 30th run overall and I may get to 50 this year after all. I will never be the quickest, but I am happy enough finishing in the top third of the field.

You have uploaded 88 running activities, and 14 of them have been of similar distances (within 10 percent)!
Here are your 5-fastest running activities of a similar distance:

Over these 14 similar activities, you have travelled approximately 72.39 kms at an average pace of roughly 5:13 min/km!
Your latest run was at a pace of approximately 5.42min/km!
Looks like you went a bit slower this time! Remember that it's important to take some rest days, and do some rehab / prehab / strength and conditioning training too! If you weren't intending to go slower, take a moment to listen to your body, and see if you need something. Check in with yourself!

I do not think anyone ran backwards

Now that is something I'd like to see!

That backwards run must be a thing, we did that in Hereford on their anniversary.

However, it's slightly faster to run it backwards in H. Doesn't seem to be the case in Letchworth!

Buzzing today, had a great away run in Shorne Country Park, great circuit too!

Running this course backwards would be hazardous. I think in good conditions you could get a good time going counterclockwise as you could get good speed down the hill. Hope they do it again some time.

Congrats on your run

I hope you reach your goal of 50. That would be pretty awesome. It only gives you about two or three you can skip though right?

I meant 50 overall and I have already done 30 after 2 years. I really ought to manage another 20 this year and I want to try more different locations. There are lots within an hour of here.
