Lefébure-Wély, Andante

In the comments under his post "Fascination with the key of G | Organ music" (https://www.palnet.io/palnet/@contrabourdon/fascination-with-the-key-of-g-or-organ-music) @contrabourdon asked me to upload something, played on the sample set of the Cavaillé-Coll organ of the St. Eucaire in Metz. Of course I'm happy to oblige.

The organ was build by the firm of Cavaillé-Coll, the famous and genius French organ builder of the 19th century. It was build in 1910, 11 years after the death of Cavaillé-Coll, by his sucessor Mutin. So, it is not a 'real' Cavaillé-Coll, though it comes close enough in sound and esthetics.

It is a small instrument, not to be compared with the great instruments in large churches and cathedrals. The sound is more direct and more intimate. Though in full registrations the sound is quite impressive. Despite its being a small instrument, a large portion of the French Romantic organ reportoire can be played faithfully on this instrument.

As an example I choose the Andante from Lefébure-Wély's Meditaciones religiosas, op 122. An intimate composition that fits this instrument perfectly.

it might be small but it sounds just as beautiful as the larger ones! Do you find yourself playing songs from memory a lot or reading sheet music ?

My memory is lousy, my sight reading ability is very good. So I play almost exclusively from sheet music.

Thank you so much! It's a nice little instrument and the reverb is spot on. Nice to hear you playing this French repertoire too.
