When You Hit the Wall, The Rebound is What Counts

If you know anything about me, just look at what I do 6 out of 7 days a week for the last 7 going on 8 years and you will learn that I am an Orangetheory Fitness fanatic.

It's not something I sell, promote or make any money off of; so there is never a monetary attachment to my constantly posting or speaking about it.

I breathe it, live it and love it and could give two $hits who goes and who doesn't; because all that matters to me is that I go.

With that said, I am blessed that my fiancé has been going with me for 6 years and her and I have worked out for 177 Orangetheory coaches as a couple.

I've seen coaches come and go, I've seen members come and go, I've even seen OTF studio owners come and go; but I am still a loyal member of the brand and the workout.

I also have met amazing people and absolutely value every coach, member and owner I've ever met during my OTF membership.

Why am I even bringing this up, shouldn't this post be on Actifit or something? Well, not for this post.

A lot of my life revolves around how my health and fitness: mentally, physically and spiritually has improved greatly because of OTF.

For example, today is benchmark day. This is where you are put into recordable challenges throughout the year with a different challenge to see how much you have improved or what you need to work on if you don't reach your goals.

With today's 200 meter benchmark row, I learned a very encouraging less; although I failed to match or beat my personal record.

You see, I'm 55 years old and it's very difficult for me to allow age to be an obstacle. I don't want to go out like that - EVER!

Well, my personal record is rowing the 200 meter row in 32.20 seconds and I rowed 33.53 seconds today; so yes I was disappointed.

Once Tiffany and I got to our car after the work, we discuss the class we just burned splats in; which is something we usually do.

During that discussion, we start looking at our results until we find the day we reached our personal record and for me it was eye-opening.

I've actually had not been at my very best for about 3 years when it came to the 200 meter row benchmark challenge and it wasn't for lack of trying - it never is. I take this very seriously.

The problem I found with all this, is that I was kind of blaming my bout with COVID this past March on why; I wasn't reaching or surpassing these benchmark challenges.

When in fact, when it came to the row benchmarks, the 200 meter especially; I had regressed.

Now today, with my disappointment came a pleasant surprise that at 55 years old and 3 years of never giving up and always giving it my all, I came as close as possible to my personal record.

Again, you may say; what the heck does this mean?

What it means, is that; no matter what your goals are, that if you remain consistent, dedicated and fight tooth and nail for what you want to accomplish, that it is possible to move forward.

I still have more work to do to match or beat my PR, but today proves that I have to keep on doing what I'm doing; because I know I'll get there.
