Maledictus Terra Book 2: Sanguifex Part 81
Introduction
Welcome back to Maledicturs Terra. This is a Chain Story between myself and @lex-zaiya, meaning that we each write the parts alternatively.

Part 81
“You want me to what?” Rhys yelled indignantly and coughed some more. “As though I am some sort of dragon? What’s gone in to you? I need answers! I…” He stopped as Adiran began to push him toward the stairs of the church.
“We do not have time for this… really… if we do not hurry then this building will be swarming with Hungers and they shall break down all of our defences and consume us. Do you want that?” The mage yelled.
“Hungers? What are those? Getting consumed does not sound great… why did you humans bring me here?”
“Follow me!” Adiran quit his pushing on the big lizard and waved him on. “We an still fix everything! We have a chance to make things right with the Goddess!”
“I don’t like where this is going.” Rhys muttered.
“I like the lizard.” Sebastian grumbled from the rows of benches nearby. Rhys followed Adiran up the stairs but gave Sebastian a sniff, taking in his scent. Bellatrix had faded to shadow but Rhys looked right at the spot where she was hiding and sniffed at her as well.
These were new persons he did not know, but there was no time for any other pleasantries. “Lucien! Bring the others!” Adiran called as he raced ahead.
Lucien appeared next to the twins. “It is time.” He said softly. “I bid only the twins and Mortis join us upstairs. We shall need the Knights and the Cursed to stay on ground level and protect us from incursions…”
"Alright then... I can at least understand what is going on over here..." Sebastian grumbled.
"Leave it to us!" Leopold said.
"We shall protect the stairs foremost!" Anna echoed.
Trix said nothing and vanished into the shadows.
Lucien joined the others upstairs while Adiran explained in a disjointed fashion what needed to be done.
"Let me try this again." The mage said impatiently. "This summoning circle is meant to summon the favour of a single deity to the circle. Usually, quite a dangerous idea since you will need to sacrifice something to the God. But we hsall be summoning two of them that are in opposition of one another. Their essences will clash with one another. Meanwhile, we siphon power from both and use that godly energy to lift the curse on the godling here... the one that brought about the Hungers."
"Right. Got you!" Adrian said eagerly.
"I don't get it at all." Magna admitted.
"What you are saying is that in order to do this... we need two beings with strong connections to these Gods?" Mortis asked.
Adiran nodded his head and gestured at the twins.
"And dragon fire?" Rhys asked flatly.
Adiran nodded again, pointing at Rhys.
"But there is just one problem."
"What Rhys?"
"I am not a dragon! I am a saurian!"
"Oh really? Have you ever met your parents? Who told you that you are a saurian?" Adiran smiled.
"Well of course I have not met my parents... you discovered me and you..." Rhys stopped his sentence aghast. "You told me I was a Saurian!"
Adrian's smile turned into a grin. "Yeah... and I lied!"
"Why would you do that?"
"You were full enough of yourself when you knew you were a talking, unique lizard... you have so much to grow still... you have not even begun to grow your wings yet!"
"Wings... fire... so really.... I am a dragon?"
"A hatchling... I am afraid that you will be at all of our funerals even if we live to have long lives. Your kind live for an extremely long time."
Rhys's delight at his heritage turned sour. "Oh... I see... that... seems lonely..."
"Don't you worry." Adiran smiled. "I shall do my best to find you a companion as ageless as you!"
